Making the sparring club had been one of Ava's best decisions as of yet. She already had a bunch of interesting club members; some she knew from around the academy and ones she already knew were strong, and then some she didn't know and couldn't wait to know so she could best tell them how they could kick ass. Now she only needed an advisor. Maybe she could rope Titus into the job, he did work as a power coach so her adoptive dad would be perfect for the job.

But Ava could ask/beg/blackmail Titus later. Now she had a club member to spar. Ava and Kalvin were standing in the gym that the club was using as a home base. It was a Saturday evening, time that had worked for both of them the best, and Ava was here 'cos she and Kalvin had both wanted to try out some sparring. Kalvin was among the club members who didn't have the most flashy powers, like Eein and Ava and Alexis who were all dragons and could shift and use elemental powers. But Ava had never really liked flashiness anyway. She liked whatever worked, and she liked creativeness and finding new ways to best use your abilities. She wanted to see how this guy used his.

"Okay, Kal! I already got a basic idea of your abilities from the first meeting. You're an all over superhuman and can change your weight, right?"
Ava asked just to confirm. The club had had its first official meeting few days ago, and during said meeting Ava had asked everyone's names and abilities. She kinda needed to know so she could give 'em advice if they wanted it, and so she could work out good strategies that worked against them.
"But I got a question I didn't ask back then. How do you use your abilities when you fight?"

"Yeah, sounds about right," Kalvin said. He was doing some basic stretches as he and Ava stood facing each other. He was glad to have found a place where he could do more than mindlessly fight people. Well, he was ready to develop his skills in physical combat. Plus, this was a controlled environment. He could be less cautious about using his powers here.

"What do you mean? I just use my abilities like any body..." he said, stretching his right leg first to the side and then the left. "Oh, you mean, like how do I use it strategically? I mostly use it to pin people down, I guess..." he answered. There were many other things he could probably do with his abilities that he can't do to normal-sized opponents. Well, given that the club was full of dragons, he was kind of excited what new tactics he could use in a fight against them.

"Your not going to turn into a dragon today, are you?" he asked, finishing up on his stretching exercises. He looked around the gym that they used as a base. As far as he could see, there wasn't much in the way of items that could protect the gym here. "Oh, yeah, I also have a question. How strong is this floor if, just in case, something heavy possibly hit it. Do we have to worry about avoiding property damage or are there spells in place to keep it in tiptop shape?"

"Pin people down? That's boring! That's clearly what he got to work on. You need to be more versatile, more creative. There's so much what you could do with increased weight than pin someone down."
Ava said, waving a finger towards Kalvin. Not like she had expected him to have any super fancy ideas but still, just pinning down? Kalvin seemed a traditional kind of fighter, all fists and footwork, and that was totally fine. It worked just fine against most opponents.
But Ava wasn't most opponents.

"Pssh, please. We're going to spar, I'm not trying to kill you. I go full-on dragon only against other dragons."
Ava reassured. Besides, she didn't like using her dragon form for fights anyway. Ava liked hand-to-hand combat, and having a human body gave her more fun options for combat. As a dragon she was a giant fuck-you beast.
"I'm not going to use any of my abilities, though I might do some small partial shifting if you hit hard enough. Oh hey, here's an idea!"
Ava grinned widely again, but this time it was a challenging and slightly evil grin.
"The moment you get me to actually partially shift, you win."

Kalvin stared at Ava for a bit, his eyebrow raised. Yeah, he certainly left out some of the fancy tricks he liked to use. Can't show all his cards after all. He'll show Ava in a minute how versatile he could be. Though, he had to be wary. She could do partial shifting. He can't even shift weight partially. And she was a dragon. That much already made it a challenge.

"Okay, then. Is there a prize I get when I win?" Kalvin asked, smirking a little in return. He cracked his knuckles and then shook his hands. Then he got into his typical stance; head lowered, one foot forward, base steady, elbows close to his torso, fists loose and ready for anything.

Ava was certainly hoping that Kalvin try to come at her with something unusual and new, she was craving for a challenge. She had already challenged herself by limiting herself to her human form, hopefully Kalvin would add to that.
"Prize? Being able to make me use partial shifting should be a prize enough, considering you won't be able to do it."
Ava trashtalked right back, all confidence and eagerness to fight. Kalvin seemed to be the same, changing his stance to one that a boxer would use. Ava didn't change her own stance all that much. Her legs were a bit splayed and her arms hovered lightly next to her sides, muscles relaxed. It was a stance unlike in any known martial arts or fighting style.
"I'll let you have the first strike. Show me what you got."

"Little girl, you don't know what you're asking for," Kalvin calmly muttered. He crouched low and back, akin to how a runner would lower his body at the start of a race. In a breath, Kalvin was rocketing through the air after a hard kick. He maneuvered his weight so his kick launched him like a rocket heading straight for Ava. While he was in the air, Kalvin spun forward, bringing his feet in an arc up in the air. Just as he was to hit Kalvin dialed his weight up--not too high; he was still getting a feel of Ava's strength--so that gravity gave his kick more force.

Little girl? Ava didn't miss that demeaning way Kalvin called her, and she could feel her temper flaring. But it wasn't enough to make Ava literally heat up. Because she was going to show Kalvin who exactly was the club president here.
Ava observed patiently how Kalvin crouched down and shot himself forward. It was impressive, as expected of superhuman strength.
But it wasn't nearly enough.

As Kalvin got close Ava, without any warning, dropped down in a crouch low enough for her calves to nearly touch the ground. Using her palms and feet she pushed herself forward, essentially going under Kalvin and behind her. This all happened in a fraction of a second, Ava didn't merely have super strength but superior reflexes and agility as well.
Ava grabbed Kalvin's other leg, the one he wasn't kicking with, and by utilizing the very gravity Kalvin used to give his kick more power Ava spun Kalvin, attempting to slam him on his back to the ground. She didn't use her full strength, she used just enough to, if she succeeded, make the air push out of Kalvin's lungs. Ava wasn't here to hurt, she was here to educate. And, well, maybe show off a bit.

((Hopefully this makes sense XD))

A split second. Kalvin had a split second to react to Ava's move. He knew he had it but he wasn't able to take the opportunity. It was too late when he wielded his weight so Ava couldn't pull him in any other direction but where he intended to land. Kalvin was used to brawls and drunken fights. Truly, this was new for him. Even the underground fights were somewhat new to him since people there also had abilities he didn't know about until he was in the cage.

Kalvin's back slammed to the ground. It didn't hurt much, at least not as much as it would've if he had the endurance of a normal man. Good thing he wasn't normal. Plus, the great thing about being on the ground was that he was trained in fighting there. He was lucky Ava still had a hold of his foot. Through sheer muscle memory alone, Kalvin pulled his body in a fetal position on the ground so that his upper body was closer to Ava's foundation. He kicked his feet up so his legs were framing Ava's hips. As he did that, his upper back remained on the ground and he grabbed onto Ava's heels.

"You're mine," Kalvin muttered. Now, she was trapped and there was no other way but down. Kalvin straightened his body, attempting to do a double ankle sweep to get her down.

Maybe Ava should've thrown Kalvin harder, he was more sturdy than she had expected. He was so much not rattled that he had even time to plan his next move. Man, had Titus been watching this match he would've let Ava have it afterwards for letting Kalvin plan a counterattack...

"Am I now?"
Ava muttered right back, grinning. She wasn't going to let Kalvin do what she knew he wanted to do next. Ava kept a firm grip on Kalvin's ankles and with brute strength forced his legs separate enough to give her space, bent her knees and basically jumped up and forwards before Kalvin could straighten and do his ankle sweep. Ava somersaulted over Kalvin and pulled him along by his ankles, and once Ava had her back against the ground she pushed both her feet against Kalvin's chest in an attemot to send the man flying across the gym. And this time Ava didn't hold back, this should do more than just give Kalvin a little ouchie.

Now, that was something not many people got out of. Kalvin's eyes widened as he felt himself go into the air and pushed back. The air escaped his lungs for a quick moment, replaced by pain immediately. He growled as he let his body become featherlight, slowing his movement and giving him time to somersault so he landed lightly on his feet after a second. They stood facing each other again, only Kalvin's metaphorical health bar was at least two or three units down. Five tops. "Not bad," he said, straightening up.

He needed to change tactics. Ava most likely didn't know what to do in the ground. That was where he wanted her, but how will she get there? She was stronger than he imagined. And that was good. It meant Kalvin unleash a little more than he usually did.

But first... "All right. Your turn, princess. Show me what you got," he challenged, coming into a defensive position.
