Nothing was broken. The bins had remained un-toppled and the only sound for a moment was breathing as everyone paused to take in what had happened and what could have happened.

For the briefest of moments Kaliyan's heart felt like it stopped. There he was holding Cam in his arms. Well.. arm. He down towards the other man and to be quite honest there was no embarrassed feeling for him. There was warmth and happiness and excitement and... well he probably wouldn't have been the one to break the moment if others had not acted.

Their moment of stunned silence was broken by two things that happened nearly simultaneously. First, Cam quickly stepped away from Kal and just from a brief look Kal could tell he was embarrassed. Second, across the room Skye had to stifle a tiny gasp and literally covered her face to keep from outright giggling at the scene. She stumbled back to her chair and tried to do her best not to interrupt too much further. Talk about a good show.

Kal finally glanced away from Cam, but only for a moment. Just long enough to look back at the stack of bins and casually push the last one properly into place before returning his focus to Cam. "Looks like everything is fine. How are you though? Do you need to sit down?" He asked, a fair amount of concern on his face.

But Cam seemed to be ok for the most part so Kal looked over at the perfect stacked bins on Cam's side. Clearly it had been close but Kal was the last one to put his bin in place so Cam had won. "Looks like I owe you a massage now Cam," he grinned "But I think maybe we should wait a little until things uh, calm down a bit." Kal never claimed to be the smartest man in a room, but he did have a pretty decent amount of common sense and the... tension was pretty high at the moment. Not the bad kind of tension, but not super helpful for relaxation.

Fortunately Skye had managed to stop her silliness and piped up. "Congratulations Cam! I think two could use some lemonade now," she said as she looked at her empty glass and the half-full one by Ernesto, "and refills for us. Maybe you two can relax outside while Kal and I go get the drinks?" There was a pointed look at Kal that was making it clear she wanted to say something to him in private. But the tone of her voice didn't make it sound serious. In fact she was practically beaming.

The position he and Kal spent the briefest moment in was probably the closest Cam would get to the guy carrying him. Which was kind of a shame, since it had been a nice feeling, being in Kal's arms. Well, arm. Nevertheless, Cam felt the temptation to remain in the position. But he had enough shame and awareness of their company left to step away. His face was flushed, partially out of mild panic over the possibly broken shells as well but mostly because his heart was pounding from the sudden and all too brief close contact.

"Oh, thank god. Me? No no, I'm completely fine, you caught my fall. I'd ask if you were okay but I doubt someone as feeble as me could even put a dent on you."
Cam said and laughed a bit nervously, but from his face you could see that he indeed was asking if Kal was okay, since his concern matched Kal's.

The whole challenge, and most other things aside from Kal and how his closeness had felt, had been wiped from Cam's mind so when Kal reminded him Cam blinked a couple of times and looked at his own bins. Had he actually won? Though for both their sake Cam wanted to leave the massage for later. When he had calmed down, like Kal said.
"Uh huh, that's a great idea, muscles. Best one I've heard since around 30 minutes ago."
Cam tried to grin but it was diminished by the fact that when he called Kal muscles the scene from mere minute ago flashed to his mind again.

Skye almost made Cam jump, he had been that immersed in the strange, though good strange, mood that was around him and Kal. He turned to smile at her and made a slight bow. He was eternally thankful to the girl for stepping into the scene.
"Well thank you, lady of the rain. Seems like damsel beat sir Shellsalot."
Cam snickered at Kal, back to joking. He didn't miss the look Skye gave Kal, but it was none of his business and thus Cam nodded, beaming just like Skye
"Sure, we'll go take a breather. Come on, Ernesto."
Cam stepped towards Ernesto and paused slightly, when his ankle ached as he relied on it. But Cam didn't react in any way outside the slight pause, and kept smiling as he walked over to Ernesto and nudged for the old man to get up. He did, and followed Cam outside after sending a suspecting look at Kal and Skye. On their way out Ernesto muttered something like "Well done" to Cam and the young man smiled at the older one.

Kal wanted to hug Cam for his concern. And because he just wanted to hug him in general. His head was spinning a little and he felt drunk. Even if half the hoard had been toppled he probably would have still been focused on making sure Cam was ok. Which was good and felt right, but also a dangerous mindset to be in.

He hated that Cam had called himself feeble. Cam was vibrant and active and strong of body and spirit. But he was afraid that just saying Cam wasn't feeble would accidentally come across as calling him large or fat or something. "Brave Sir Shellsalot, tragically slain by his only weakness. A foxy damsel in distress," he joked instead. Half their interactions were built on layers of bad jokes and it was easier to make jokes than be serious.

Kal wasn't sure exactly which of their many ideas Cam had referred to. Time seemed to have passed in a way that he wasn't sure what they had been talking about 30 minutes ago or which things had come before or after that. It was all one long, happy jumble. He remembered the plans they had talked about but was having trouble with which order they had come in. "Great, we'll save the massage for when we can both focus on that.."

The awkward tension had been broken by Skye and Kal too was thankful for it. The look from Skye was a little unexpected but in the week or so since he had met Skye he had learned to appreciate her advice so he was going to play along. Skye laughed at Cam's way of describing who won. "Of course, the damsels are always the winners in the end," she giggled and then gave Cam a playful wink as the two guests began heading outside to wait.

As Cam and Ernesto headed outside Kal and Skye stepped over into the small little kitchen to pour out the drinks. And have a quick private chat.

"Kal, you really do like him don't you?"
"Yes, I think I do"
"And you're not ready to tell him yet?"
"I'm... nervous. Don't know if he feels the same way and I don't- i'm not great at this"
"..."
"You're doing just fine. But maybe it would be easier if there wasn't an... audience?"

"Probably. Especially that grumpy guy. I feel like he really doesn't like me."
"Then just relax for today. Set up your plans for surfing or dinner or whatever, just the two of you. Then see how you feel. There's no rush."

Kal was encouraged by the brief chat and was smiling when he came back out with a tray of four glasses of lemonade. Skye followed a couple minutes later, having gone to check on Lyrseir. "Unfortunately your mom is still busy with a guest so you'll have to give her the good news later," she said to Kal before she grabbed her glass and leaned on the wall.

Kaliyan was disappointed he couldn't use the opportunity to introduce Cam to her after all, but she was going to meet Cam before too long either way. Maybe telling her about the hoard in private was better than her coming over to them while they were all flustered and recovering anyway.

"Good job on the sorting Cam. That would have taken me forever to do on my own."

Once outside Cam leaned on the wall and slid to the ground, sitting on the floor. He rubbed his face with his hands and groaned a bit, his face was still a bit hot. Ernesto looked down on him and shook his head a bit, clicking his tongue.
"You stupid boy. You hurt your ankle, didn't you?"
Cam looked at Ernesto from between his fingers, almost glaring, and sighed.
"Just a bit, it's not big. And I will always have at least one ankle that can't be sprained or hurt."
"Don't give me lip, kid. I'm not blind, far from it. Your aura tells me everything."
Cam's eyes widened a bit and he blushed a bit again and groaned, leaning his head against the wall.
"This used to be so much easier, Ernesto. But now I'm all over the place. You'd think friendzoning someone would be easier."
Cam let out a small bitter laugh, and Ernesto squatted down next to him.
"Why should you...friendzone...him? Youngsters these days, words all over the place..."
"Well, it's...so complicated. Look, I know it's obvious that I like him a lot. I just...my last crush is the reason why my life is now more or less a mess. I'm scared, damnit."
"Scared he'll be as big of a spineless asshole as the last one? Boy, you're delusional."
That made Cam laugh a bit and he grinned at Ernesto, feeling bit better.
"You know, maybe I am."
"So you're still going to...friendzone him?"
"I...I really don't know. I don't want to, but I should. I don't want to drag him into my messes."
"Boy, everyone is a mess, others just hide it better. If you let him see yours and he still sticks around it might just be worth it."
Cam looked at Ernesto surprised, that was actually good advice. So unexpected.

Eventually Kal returned with some lemonade, and Cam was able to send him a genuine grin now that Ernesto had calmed him down. He attached his prosthetic back and stood up, still ignoring the ache on his ankle.
"Foxy damsel sends his thanks, sir Shellsalot."
Cam chuckled and took some lemonade from the tray. After Ernesto saw Cam drinking it he took lemonade as well, and drank it.

Cam waved his hand a bit dismissively when Kal thanked him and sipped his lemonade with a smile.
"I'm getting a win and a massage from it, plus your mom will be happy. That more than enough pays back for the trouble. Or more like there was no trouble at all, I had fun."

Kal smiled back at Cam as they shared the glasses of lemonade. He didn't notice anything that would have told him that Cam had hurt his ankle. The man was a great actor and Kal had taken him at face value when he had said he was ok. "Guess we pick up new nicknames every time we hang out together. I better be careful not to give you any bad ideas or i'll never live it down," he was smiling and chuckling just like he always did when Cam was around to make goofy jokes.

He put his arm out to lean on the wall but was being careful to be close-ish but not too close to Cam. Things were winding down and he had determined a vague plan for how to approach whatever was going to happen, or not, between him and Cam. "I'm really glad you had fun and I'm going to hold you to that surf session. In fact... how's your Wednesday or Thursday evening as far as plans?" Time to be bold and just start things moving. First step was to get Cam to a quiet place where other people wouldn't disturb them. Not the regalia, not Kal's mother, no one. That way whatever they said was just between the two of them. Also the surfing would be really fun either way.

Skye smiled and then busied herself in taking a long sip of her lemonade. Doing everything she could to just fade into the background to avoid interrupting. She was pretty sure things would go well, but then she was sort of connected to optimism itself.

Cam smiled mischievously at Kal's comment on nicknames and tilted his head a bit, with a playful look in his eyes.
"I don't know, muscles Shellsalot. I have quite the imagination. I can conjure you an embarrassing nickname or two out of nothing, easily."
Cam chuckled and reached out a bit to bump Kal's shoulder with his hand lightly. But decided against it, and instead raised his lemonade glass slightly in a salute.

Cam leaned his back against the wall, casually lifted his sore ankle and crossed his legs so he wouldn't stand on it. The pain was slowly increasing and under Cam's pant leg the skin was getting red.
Kal suggested some days when they could go surfing, and without even thinking if he had something on those days Cam answered
"They're as free as...just pretend I said something witty here. I wouldn't want to ruin my reputation as the smooth joker."
Cam grinned, if he had some plans on those nights he'd have to cancel them. There was no way Cam was missing surfing with Kal.

Ernesto had mastered the technique of blending in the background and it was as if he was non-existent as he looked at the two young men. Especially he observed Kal, he was thinking what Cam had said moments ago about being scared. Kal seemed like a good boy, his aura was mostly pure and peaceful. But Ernesto's sharp eyes could see the storm beneath the calm. He sure as hell hoped that storm wouldn't be unleashed upon Cam.

Kal pretended to be shocked at the nicknames and then snickered. "I would never challenge you in a contest of nicknames. I'm far outmatched by your expertise there oh ancient master." He felt a little weird because he knew Ernesto was older and was probably scowling at him for that but he was staying completely focused on Cam.

He could have sworn Cam was going to do something different with that hand but he just took a drink of that lemonade and Kal shrugged it off as wishful thinking. His own desires playing tricks on his mind. It was enough to distract him so he wouldn't notice Cam favoring his hurt ankle. "As free as the massage I promised you. I've got you covered. We'll just say you sent it to me with your mind," he winked and grinned right back. "It's going to be a great time. And summer is almost over so now's the best time to do it."

The storm ever-present deep in Kal's core continued its endless swirl. It rose and fell in intensity as Kal's emotions changed. It was not just anger that it contained though. It was the core of his passion too. He knew how dangerous it was. How badly things could go if he let it loose without getting to a safe area away from people. Fortunately so many years learning from an expert in calming had helped him immensely, though he chafed a little under his mother's watchful eyes.

"Figure i'll grab a cooler, a blanket and get our two boards waxed up and ready so we can hit the beach late afternoon on Wednesday. Thurday as a backup in case something gets in the way, but I don't know of anything that will for me."

Skye quietly drew her phone from her pocket and started checking the weather and then writing down a list of things to do before Wednesday. Not for her though. She just figured Kal was probably not completely thinking with his brain and might forget something important. Like a good best friend... or wing- girl? Whatever. She wanted Kal and Cam to have another great time.

Cam faked a smug expression and pressed a hand to his chest, looking at Kal with pseudo condescending eyes.
"I am an ancient being from another universe, after all. I have made up nicknames for several millennia. But I respect your efforts, young one."
Cam's demeanor broke after saying that and he cackled a bit to himself. As for Ernesto, Cam just ignored him though the man was indeed keeping a keen eye on them.

"Great cover. You make jokes for me and give me a free massage. What would I do without you?"
Cam chuckled and drank some of his lemonade, only a moment later realizing how his words sounded. Cam had to get a grip, he was usually in control in situations like this. He mentally slapped himself and moved on, wouldn't want that weird mood up again.
"I hope it won't be too chilly though, I get cold easy."
Cam adjusted his position a bit and had to lean on his ankle a bit. The flash of pain almost made him flinch, but Cam masked it as pretending to shiver and snickered.
"I'll probably arm myself with half dozen blankets."

Cam's eyes were still rusty, and he couldn't see the full extent of auras as Ernesto did. He had not seen even a glimpse of what was beneath Kal's calm exterior. While Ernesto considered if he should tell Cam about it Cam finished his lemonade and smiled at Kal.
"That sounds like a plan. I'll just bring my awesome self in a wet suit. And a little surprise."
Cam finished his sentence with a small mysterious smile and winked. He had a plan.

"I'm sure you'd think of something. I can't be the only masseuse in town to catch you when you fall," he grinned. He joked about it but he didn't mind catching Cam any time he needed it.

Right, colder weather. A topic probably even more effective at dragging them away from their awkwardness than Cam realized. "I'm really not a big fan of the cold either. Guess we'll just have to stock up on blankets and cocoa." Man that was an enticing mental image. Curled up under a bunch of soft warm blankets and a nice large mug of hot cocoa. Although Kal probably shouldn't bundle up too much. Literally exuding humidity made that a little trickier. He had to stop himself before he let his mental picture zoom out because he was fairly certain that bigger picture would include Cam right there next to him.

When Cam mentioned a surprise Kal quirked an eyebrow and looked intrigued. "A surprise huh? Now I really can't wait." Cam had that mischievous look again. The one from the coffee shop when he had decided to pay Kal back for his little pranks. But somehow Kal was pretty sure it was going to be a good surprise.

He wanted to keep talking to Cam for the rest of the day. Didn't want him to leave. But a well-timed cough, which was probably no accident, from Skye snapped him back to reality. "Right. I'll text you but the plan will be we meet on the beach?."

'But you're the only masseuse, only person, who I want to be caught by'
Cam thought to himself, externally only answering to Kal's words by snickering and sticking out his tongue at him.

Surprisingly the same image that Kal had floated to Cam's mind, though in his fantasy Kal was right there by his side under those blankets from the start. Just imagining it made Cam feel all warm, mostly inside, and he sighed a bit while tilting his head to the side. Cam smiled widely at Kal, he was looking forward to surfing even more now.
"Best part about getting cold is getting warm again, after all. And what better place to do that than next to you."
Cam grinned, he was referring to how Kal spread warm, humid air around him and Cam could feel the effects even now. He didn't hate it at all.

"Look forward to it. I swear you'll be shell shocked when you see it."
Cam couldn't resist putting in one last seashell pun, even though it was kinda weak. His surprise wasn't probably going to be that shocking, but he couldn't help his dramatic flair. And perhaps there was a small prank buried in his surprise. Just a small one.

Cam could guess the cough from Skye was a sign, even before Kal swiftly moved to end the conversation. It was disappointing, Cam didn't want to leave. But Ernesto was sending him a look that spoke volumes, and Cam couldn't help a small sigh of disappointment. But he fixed his demeanor soon enough and smiled at Kal.
"Yup, that sounds about right. Don't forget the blankets, sir Shellsalot."
Cam chuckled and pushed himself upright, leaning on both his feet. His ankle was basically screaming, but it wasn't anything Cam hadn't experienced before.
