He laughed when she realized that the two were supposed to be headed somewhere after being sidetracked. Whether it was intentional or not, to him it was funny. Perhaps that's what he needs to lift his spirits a little; a good laugh. Where exactly were we going anyway.....ah right... He tapped his head trying to remember, then it hit him. He looked at her. "You said something about dancing....oh right! We're goin' to the ballroom!!"

As for the question in which Atalia had been desperately awaiting, he had to stop for another moment to think again. What can I ask her....I dunno....crap....the first thing that comes to mind....okay.....here goes.... After a moment of deliberation, he blurted out something. "Do you like trying to help people?"

Ata grinned as Cade laughed, and thought she was finally doing some good for him. Maybe there was hope for the poor kid after all. Though when he remided her of the ballroom her eyes became wide with excitement. "Of course! I was so excited, I cannot believe I forgot!" She clapped once more, and set off the a newfound purpose in her step. There was skipping involved as well, but it was a purposeful skipping of course.

"Do you like trying to help people?"

Atalia thought about that for a moment. Her initial response was yes! I do! But as she thought about it more she realized she never really tried to help people... It just happened naturally. "A smile is the best gift you can give me. So yes, I love helping people. So many children are so sad around here, it breaks my heart." She was proud of him for asking her a question, and could tell he was really hesitant about asking her anything. "Good you finally thought of something."

"A smile is the best gift you can give me. So yes, I love helping people. So many children are so sad around here, it breaks my heart."

Cade paused to think about these words. Sure, it kills some people to witness other people endure emotional sufferings, but that was basically Cade's lifestyle; being in pain, being alone. By now he was used to this kind of thing. He shrugged. "Some people are better being miserable....y'know...."

"Some people are better being miserable....y'know...."

Atalia stopped walking. She lost her breath, and felt like she'd been stabbed through the heart. He challenged her whole belief system, and persona when he said that. People...Better? No... It couldn't be. That was impossible. No one wants to be miserable... It's just a state of mind they become trapped in and don't know anything else so they become satisfied with it.

"I... I disagree." She mumbled. "Who wants to be sad all the time? Isn't that... Bad for your soul?" She asked, with wide, misunderstanding blue eyes.

Bad for your soul? Sure, in most cases, Cade thought. He felt that it that wasn't the case with him. By now, he was used to it. He eventually learned to deal with pain, almost as if it doesn't even phase him at all nowadays. He knew that the girl was only trying to console him, just as many others have tried to do in the past but to no avail. He often preferred to be miserable and alone, but was willing to try and open up, when he felt that the time was right.

Of course no one wants to be sad all the time, he thought. The girl had asked if that was really the case. Cade shrugged then looked down to the ground. That was pretty much the only possible answer he could give; again, no words.

There he was, silent as always. She watched him shrugged, and she shook her head, almost in defeat. What was she supposed to do if he liked being miserable? If he liked his heart in constant agony? She sighed, and tried to think of something else...

She wondered what kind of music would be playing at the ballroom. Did Cade like to dance? She figured he didn't, because dancing was a happy thing, usually, and well, she didn't know if that would make him like or dislike it, but her head loomed in various questions. It just blew her mind that he was okay with being miserable all the time!

Atalia opened her mouth to say something, but clicked it shut soon after. She tapped her chin, and made designs in the dirt as she walked with her foot. "So do you like to dance then since we are heading over there? I forgot if you've told me already." She instantly felt like doing the chicken dance, and started forming her hands into the shape of a chicken beak, and open and closed it several times before switching over she bending her arms and flapping them. "Doo do doo do doo." She hummed.

After a brief deliberation session, Cade resumed walking en route to the ballroom. As he walked, he thought about the idea of trying to do something he didn't usually enjoy, that being dancing. He never danced much in his life, not because he didn't know how, rather, he just didn't feel like doing it at most times.

"So do you like to dance then since we are heading over there? I forgot if you've told me already."

Well, maybe she did forget. He did say earlier that night that he didn't do it so much. He was willing to make an exception, perhaps on this night only...He could only watch as Atalia was now performing what appeared to be her version of the....chicken dance? Cade shook his head at this and an estranged look overpowered his face. "I can try...." he said in response to her question.

Atalia stopped dancing, aware of the discomfort from Cade. He sure was hard to please. She couldn't do anything... He was harder than... than... Elatrion! Which was saying a lot in her opinion. But then again, Elatrion probably laughed just to get Ata to go away... Ata mentally shrugged, and looked over at Cade. "What would you like to do, Cade?"

She walked next to him, quiet, and relaxed, and surprisingly, not fidgeting. He said he would try dancing, but she didn't think that he was the type to really like dancing... And she wanted him to have a good time. Was he having a good time? By the look on his face... Probably not. This saddened Atalia.

"What would you like to do, Cade?"

Do I really want to do this...? Cade thought. He looked over at Ata as she was now walking beside him. For once she wasn't hyper...What did I do wrong...? he thought. He wanted to have a good time...He just hasn't gotten enough oppurtunities to do so...He stopped walking and softly placed a hand on her shoulder. She looked so sad. That was...unusual.

"You look sad all of sudden. Is it...because of...me...? Did I say or do something wrong...? If I did..if I...made you feel...uncomfortable...the...I'm sorry...I really am..." He paused for a deep breath then continued. "Let's just go."

Wait, what was this? Cade... Touching her? Atalia gave him a small smile, and she shrugged. "I don't want you to be unhappy Cade. It makes me sad to see you so unhappy... And okay with it." Atalia continued to walk with him... Thinking of some way to make him understand her current situation and mood.

"Besides, I want you to do something you want to do." She nudged him a little, trying to make him perk up, or at least smile for once! Maybe Atalia could get Elatrion to talk to him, maybe he would like her...
