It was a fairly overcast day on the pier, but luckily not overly windy. And with just a hint of rain, too. Sterling walked purposefully along the pier, searching for something but not knowing what. As an angel, he often got these needs to check out things, places, look for people even - it was almost like he was being called somewhere. When he was a guardian angel, he knew exactly where he had to go. It was instinctive, but since he had decided he didn't want to be a guardian anymore, that knowledge of where to go was gone, and he was left with these strange feelings of having to be somewhere, but not ever knowing for certain where that somewhere was. What he needed to find could be across town for all he knew...

Turning a corner, he headed over to the part of the pier that was more industrial, where the boats came in and unloaded containers of goods, fish and other things needed on the island. Stopping suddenly, Sterling looked around, he could go toward the boats or toward some old warehouses. After a second, he decided, for no reason other than it seemed right, to check out the abandoned warehouses.

A grand tree, framed by the words, 'Don't Lose Hope.'

Minerva Blair never understood why most people didn't like her artwork--or maybe it was just that she never cared enough to try and understand. She wasn't permanently defacing a building; her art was beautiful and undestructive. In her opinion, it made these dingy buildings look even better than they did before. It filled her with pride and wonder, watching the moss claim the empty walls at her beck and call. Sometimes she could scarcely believe that it all started with a little mossy rock she found in the forest; she'd managed to turn such a minuscule amount of matter into a mural purely by her own power and imagination.

The warehouses at the pier were perfect for her venture, with the hints of sunlight and all the moisture in the air, not to mention the privacy brought on by the warehouses' vacancies. It was in an alleyway between two such buildings where Minerva, all clad in black, looked on, half mesmerized by the moss growing right before her eyes. She felt particularly secure here, so when she heard someone approach, it took her a moment to fully realize it.

Minerva Blair stood frozen, now staring at a man--a boy?--who had found himself at the edges of her sprawling moss.

". . .Hello."

Standing there for good five minutes, Sterling just watched in quiet fascination as a young goth looking dark-haired girl, woman, maybe 17, created what looked to be like a picture of some kind of tree on old an abandoned warehouse wall. The tree looked like it had been created with moss or some type of other crawling plants.

When the girl, finally noticed that he was watching her, Sterling nodded in greeting and then gestured to the wall. “Did you make that?” He asked her, his voice holding no judgment, only open curiosity. "It's beautiful..." he added with a warm smile.

Sterling had never seen an ability to create something as lovely as that and in that way from somebody who wasn’t an angel or a God, neither of which, the young woman seemed to be. He didn’t sense any divinity about her, nor did he sense that she was a demon either. How very curious... Also, his sense of needing to be somewhere was now gone.

Minerva hesitated, then relaxed a little as she realized that he seemed more curious than accusatory. Without looking at her mural, only him, she nodded and said, "I did, thank you." Studying him from afar gave her few clues. He seemed...normal and warm, and yet there was something about him that she coudln't quite put her finger on...

She decided not to dwell on it. Instead, she stepped over to the man to view the mural from where he was standing; angles were everything, after all. After a moment, her grey eyes shifted back down to him. "I've been planning it for weeks. I haven't made something on such a grand scale before."

Looking to be in thought, she rolled around her lip piercing--fake, if anyone had dared to ask. She couldn't bear actually piercing her face. "Who are you?" she asked, her expression curious.

Sterling nodded his head slowly as if considering her words carefully when she told him that she had been planning it for weeks and had never created something as big as the tree before them before.

“Well, you certainly have talent,” he stated calmly and then glanced sideways at her when she came to stand beside him to look at her work. Watching her carefully for a second, he noticed the piercing and the black lipstick, and then chuckled when she very bluntly asked him who he was. She certainly wasn’t shy.

It was a good question though, he thought to himself. Was he an angel, an ex-guardian angel, or just another citizen of Manta Carlos? After some consideration, he decided it was just easier to give her his name for now, she probably wasn’t interested in his life story anyway. “I’m Sterling,” he told her simply.

“And you are…?” he asked with a grin.

Minerva couldn't help but grin back at him, but she turned her head to hide the smile out of habit. As was always the plan, she'd give him her middle name--except there was something there that made her want to be more honest than that. "Minerva Blair," she said, glancing back at him. "But I go by Blair. You know, like the Blair Witch Project? And Sterling...like the metal, sterling silver?"

She wasn't even sure if there was another definition for sterling, other than the adjective itself. Kind of like how parents named their kid Hope or Faith, she thought. She looked back up to the mural and tilted her head. At this angle, Sterling could see a small blue flower just beginning to bud from the outer corner of her eye.

Did she have talent like he'd said? She thought about it, and decided that of course she thought she had talent, but talent in her eyes was almost never the same as talent in others' eyes. It made her smile a little, thinking that maybe someone else could appreciate her artwork too. Or maybe he was just giving her obligatory compliments. She was ever the cynic sometimes.

"What brings you here? To the docks, I mean. Are you a worker?"

Sterling burst out laughing, and smiled again, "Yes, one and the same. My name actually IS Sterling Silver. It's a, well, it's a family name..." he said, which was true. Not his family though, but one of his charges centuries ago had the last name Silver, and his angel name loosely translated to star-ling or a "star-like being".

"Nice to meet you, Minerva Blair." he said with a warm smile, "Minerva was the goddess of wisdom and war, I believe..." he added for no real reason at all. It just seemed an appropriate thing to say somehow.

Seeing the tree on the wall was starting to show life as a tiny blue flower appeared, Sterling found himself quite impressed. He had not seen anything quite like that in many, many years. It was a rare gift to be able to bestow life on inanimate objects like she had.

"No, I don't work here..." Sterling said to her, "I am in public relations actually. I work for an international company on the island, handling press releases, social events, that kind of thing." he explained.

"And to your question what brought me here, well, I think it might have been you actually," he confessed with a hint of a smile. Yes, the feeling he had that he needed to be somewhere had vanished as soon as he stumbled upon Minerva and her artwork.

Minerva's brows shot into the air. "Really? I didn't expect to actually get it right," she said, sounding somewhat impressed with herself--and his name. Sterling Silver? She commended his parents, wholly unaware of just how old this man really was. "It's a nice name, very noble-sounding."

Her brows rose a little higher, "Yeah, actually. You know that off the top of your head? Usually people think of that professor from Harry Potter first. It's kinda why I go by Blair now, besides it sounding cooler." She shook her head, recalling all of the 'McGonagall' moments people had put her in over the years. She shuddered.

"PR? I didn't know they handled all that sort of stuff," she said, the thought of him looking a little too young for such a job completely escaping her mind. "It sounds kind of fun--if I knew how to say 'hello' without people thinking I'm going to murder them, I'd probably be interested."

Before she could ask anything more, she snorted and burst out laughing, nearly doubling over with her mirth. After a few moments when her laughter settled to giggles (the horror), she said with a grin, "Oh, that's a good one! Does that line usually work?" It was a sweet line regardless, and had her face not been covered with alabaster white makeup, her blush would be on full show.

"I'm afraid my reason's a lot more boring; I'm just here doing my graffiti work for the good of the people. You know, spreading my message--'Don't lose hope'. Sounds kind of corny, huh?" It was at least a line that struck close to home for her, but she didn't want to be so melodramatic with a guy she'd just met.

"Thank you," Sterling said very pleased she seemed to like his name. He hadn't had anybody actually tell him he had a nice name before. Most were surprised at it, and a few had actually commented on the fact that sounded like something from a commercial.

"Ah, yes... the books about a boy wizard," he remarked good-naturedly, he had not even aware that there was a character named Minerva in the books. He did know though that a lot of humans had been fascinated with the series. "I am afraid I haven't read the books," he said with a shrug. "Too busy with work, not a lot of free time..." he added. "I prefer to relax taking a walk, listening to music, or napping in the sun."

And then when Minerva started laughing at his comment, Sterling realised what he had done, somewhat appalled at first, since it hadn't been his intention to come off that way, but as he saw she did seem to mind, he shook his head, and started laughing too, "No, not really..." he confessed and smiled wryly.

"Graffiti? Where? I don't see any graffiti?" Sterling remarked with a wide playful grin, "And spreading hope is a wonderful thing to do." he stated very truthfully, his angel side very much agreeing with Minerva's message.

"There is way too much despair in this world still. It's something that never seems to really ever go away," he replied very cryptically while frowning slightly at this. How long had he been alive and it seemed despair and hopelessness were always present somewhere? It saddened him to think about the souls who felt lost and in need of hope.

The way Sterling spoke about the Harry Potter books was odd, yet endearing somehow. It made him sound older than he looked--and who hadn't even at least watched the movies? Minerva let out another amused laugh, "I totally get that. I don't get a lot of free-time either with my uh, you know." She gestured to her art. "Work," she said with a grin. "I'm your typical menace to society, listening to my music a little too loudly in public and drawing things that would give a little lady nightmares. Collecting things that probably belong in a cemetery...or a museum."

Minerva blinked when he questioned her graffiti, and she lifted her finger to point right at the huge creation on the wall with the most baffled expression before she got what he was saying. "Ooohh," she laughed and let her hand fall to her side again. "Thanks. It's kinda silly when you see the things I write in my diary," she said with a playfully scandalous grin. Her expression softened into something more serious when he started to say something cryptic.

"How could it go away? There are some horrible, selfish people out there, as much as I'd like to believe there aren't. I mean, I might look like I hate the world, but I want to see it get better as much as the next person...Some people are just selfish pricks." She kicked at the ground with the tip of her shoe, then looked at the dirt she'd gathered with slight disdain. She rubbed her shoe on the back of her leg until it came back shiny again. Dirt didn't usually bother her too much, but on nice black shoes? A tragedy.

Her eyes returned to her moss project, tiny tiny flowers beginning to bloom from one branch to the next with her gaze alone. She looked pensive. "I like to think the world isn't all horrible. You're not too bad, I guess. Usually handsome people are the biggest assholes."
