Mei was just doing what normal little kids her age did, and that was sell Lemonade and Ice cream. The weather wasn't too warm, or no hot and kids were still trying to get the last of their ice creaming eating in before things started to freeze over. So what if her ice cream was just frozen water, with food coloring and sugar. So what if her Lemonade was the same thing, she passed it off as healthy and innovative to the adults and the kids...who cared there was sugar in it.

She was just sitting there counting her money and locking it in her metal money thing before putting it in her bag. She was glad, she hadn't even made that much money in the future when she had pulled the same trick. Not to mention she had three stands in three different places and kids willing work for minimum wage. She was feeling like quite the evil genius as well as a smart business kid. At the same time she wasn't violating any laws, so many kids set up cute little businesses and she was still within that age limit she was smirking evilly to herself.

She saw someone walk up and went into innocent "Pardon me, could I interest you in a nice refreshing beverage?" She asked trying to make her blue eyes seem wide and innocent. It worked on most people, she was hoping it would work it on this sucker....uhm person.

Vraum was old, but he was not too old to know the concept behind a lemonade stand. Children would take the most basic of ingredients and whip together a refreshing drink that they would sell on the curb side for pocket change. It was usually an attempt to show responsibility and innovation to their caregivers, and typically had an end-goal of raising money for some specific thing in mind.

Vraum was always delighted by these sorts of activities, but it wasn't something that would ever show across his ever-marble face. It'd been a long time since any sort of emotion flickered across Vraum's face.

At this stand, Vraum caught a feeling of....

He couldn't place the word for it. It wasn't quite deception, but he had the impression that things here where not what they seemed.

When the child before him asked if he wanted a lemonade, Vraum felt....It was a strange feeling. Bitter and semi-sweet, almost like a taste of lemonade. This was someone who wasn't breaking the rules, but someone who was operating within them. Too young to be nefarious, too smart to be naive.

"I believe you can," Vraum said in answer to her question. "How much does a glass of your lemonade cost?"

Mei felt strange, like something was off and she was pretty sure it was the strangers fault. She pushed the feeling aside, she shouldn't have to feel weird she wasn't doing anything wrong. In actuality she was working well within the law. It didn't matter at all that maybe it wasn't the most innocent lemonade stand but did she really have to be all goody goody?

"Fifty cent for a small, seventy-five for a medium and a dollar for a large. With a larger you can add another thirty cent and get an ice cream pop by itself it's fifty cent" She said pointing to the sign that was written in purple and black loopy cursive lettering. She was proud of her sign, it looked really pretty, she actually had good handwriting when she took her time.

Still she couldn't get past the fact that there was something off about the man. She studied him from behind her spell book. She was busy adding spells she borrowed and found from other people. Even if she couldn't perform them yet she was sure by next year she would be able to at least do four spells instead of just one or two. She was still trying to memorize them, she had the habit of trying to cast spells and then they only worked half way. She wondered if that's how witches felt when their spells went wrong.

"So are you gonna buy something?" She politely pointing to the line of customers that had formed behind him. sure it was only like four kids but hey, she prided herself fast service and this would not do well for business. She even manage to put as much niceness in her voice as possible, as far as she was concerned they were all sucker..all of them.

Vraum arched an eyebrow.

Something about this child was off, and it interested him. Vraum considered himself a collector of rare, valuable things, and if they were shiny, even better. This girl was not shiny, but she was different, and that was enough to catch Vraum's interest.

"I'll let them go before me," Vraum said, stepping to the back of the line. He opened his wallet and fished out the appropriate change and then waited for his turn to arrive. He slid the coins across the table.

"I will take a large," he said. He'd admired her sign and asked, "Did you make it yourself, or did your guardians help you?"

Guardians, never parents. They were on an island of misfits and orphans. Parents was almost a dirty word here. Never, ever mention the parents.

But he was curious who was responsible for this child with the strange aura.

Mei nodded and quickly served the customers that showed up depositing the money in a container that seemed to full for such a small business venture. After she was done she locked her box and put it back in her bag, taking out her spellbook and setting it on the table. Even if she couldn't really do the spells she still wanted to study them. She hadn't really got a grasp on how she as supposed to channel her magic with the spells. It seemed really stupid that she couldn't just do it like wizards of waverly place, or sabrina the teenage with. Then again life wasn't like the tv.

"OKay! She once more putting false niceness into her voice. She Was really good at faking emotions, and tricking people into believing what she said. She looked at the sign and tilted her head and then shrugged. "I made it myself, my penmanship is very good" she said, she wondered if he was trying to fish to see if she was an orphan or not.

hell, she wasn't even sure if her parents qualified as her parents since her mother...was currently not a woman...she wasn't sure how that worked and she didn't even want to know if she was being honest. "So is there anything else I can get you?" SHe said handing him the large lemonade.

Mei was inwardly smirking, no complaints about wanting money back. Just another unsuspecting sucker in her web of lies. She kind of felt like she shouldn't be doing it but not because it was wrong, but because he parents would be pissed. However that didn't really stop her from doing things when she wanted money that she earned herself. "I'll think about it, I gotta ask my mom and dad" She said as stuck a piece of bubble gum into her mouth. She wondered why he stuck around and then she realized he must be curious, there was always one curious person every time she did business.

"Yes, this book was mine, It was a gift from my father. The writing is all my mine, I love big loopy letters whether it's print or cursive" Mei had added Calligraphy to her list of skills to a couple of months ago, she had studied youtube videos and books, and practiced a lot.

"I'm working on a spell to carve pumpkins, I get hand cramps when I try and do it manually." She said as she traced over the pencil sketched letters with a pen. She always made sure to write in pencil and then trace over it in pen just so could erase it when she messed up.

Something around Vraum seemed to soften.

That wasn't to say that Vraum softened; not at all. His face was still impassible and his posture upright, but it was as though the air around him was less harsh now, like walking into a warm room after being outside on a crisp day.

She liked penmanship and was working on a spell to carve pumpkins. Vraum found it hard to dislike someone who enjoyed two of his most favorite things.

"How has your spell been coming along so far?" he asked. "And does your spell...gut the pumpkins? Or just carve it?"

Mei tilted her head, sizing up the stranger. She knew about stranger danger but for some reason she didn't feel like she was in danger with the strange guy hovering over her. She looked at her spell and then the random pumpkins laying around the neighboring houses. "We'll it's supposed to carve the pumpkins, but I want to make sure that it's going to do it."

She said putting a pumpkin on her table after pushing the lemonade cups into a ice box. "This pumpkin is my practice pumpkin." She said patting the pumpkin that took up majority of the medium size table. She wanted it big so the spell didn't have enough power to blow it up. She was kinda hoping that it worked she'd been working on the spell since valentine's day. Halloween was her favorite time of the year besides her birthday.

Vraum took another sip of his lemonade and eyed the pumpkin.

"Well," he said, and then, with a voice that sounded like he was smiling (though of course he wasn't), Vraum said, "Shall we?

After a moment or two, Vraum realized he was standing a bit too close to the pumpkin, and he took several steps back.

"When you cast, do you use...just words and magic? Or do you need supplies?" he asked. So many students utilized magic in different ways that Vraum felt he needed to prepare himself in case anything went wrong.

he had to admit, he was looking forward to this.

Magic to carve a pumpkin?

Interesting and practical application.
