Peace be with You

Of course Peace realised Alistair's strategic answering of the question, distracting her with his exact age to the second, which she found a little strange. She may not have noticed if she hadn't had a separate age for her body and life. The difference was that she didn't know either age, even to the year. She had just guessed her body's age based on appearance to be around mid-twenties. However, she decided against inquiring further. She wouldn't want to start a fight.

"Oh, alright then," she replied, hoping she didn't reveal what she now knew to be true. But why would he keep it such a secret, she wondered. Especially in a place supposedly riddled with immortals and others with extended lifespans. Was it a simple matter of privacy and insecurity, or was it more complicated? Either way, she understood he probably wouldn't be to pleased to explain. So she kept her thoughts to herself, and tried to rid her mind of all curiosity about the matter.

Peace had come to Manta Carlos, or rather Earth as a whole, for a number of reasons. The obvious first was for balance. She understood the destruction War and related Gods could wreak on a planet. Had she not been there to keep peace, Earth may have been in ruins already. By merely being present, she could prevent situations from occurring. However, she had a number of other reasons to come to the planet, and the island.

To answer Alastair, she said, "Yes, I am a Goddess," with a smile, of course. She found her position to be excellent affirmation that she was making a difference. "And yes, I must uphold Peace within the Universe. I take care of that everywhere, but my main focus for the time being is Earth. Specifically Manta Carlos. But no, there is no reason to feel threatened by me. I am, of course, here to keep everything peaceful. Prevent wars, conflict, that sort of thing." Her job was quite flexible, really. There was no protocol to follow on how to behave in a situation, only the threat of being slaughtered by members of her own Pantheon if she wasn't doing her job. Yet Peace, after two-thousand years of existence, had come to value helping citizens over her own life. That was just her personality, and she would do almost anything to prevent a death of an innocent. 'Collateral damage,' as other Gods called it.

"I can't really say the same for other Gods. Not too much to worry about though." She only knew how to do her own job. She had a lack of curiosity at times, which resulted in oblivion to external events.

She didn't inquire about his age any further. That was good. Of course, he wasn't sure if that meant she hadn't caught on or if she had simply chosen not to push the matter. For the time being, he decided he wouldn't reveal himself unless it became necessary. Revealing himself to other Celestials could potentially provoke unwanted attention - and could inadvertently alert demons to his presence. It wasn't that he was afraid - definitely, he wasn't afraid - but to provide any chance of exposure could be detrimental to his mission objective. And, additionally, turn this island into a war zone.

That being said, he had to find out what she knew.

"I see. Exquisite." He said, with curious eyes upon a fascinated face. And yet, she had to be here for a reason. Celestial beings didn't just loiter around the Material Plane to hang around mortals and have a good time. Well.... okay, maybe some of them did. Beings he would preferably not speak of in a conversation. But a Goddess of Peace? If she was really visiting to "maintain peace", there was a reason to do so. Something she hadn't yet admitted.

He stood, now, and stretched various parts of his body nonchalantly, using different positions. "I do indeed wonder, yes." He started, exhaling during one of his stretches. "Not too much to worry about? Perhaps." He said musingly. Now, he started pacing back and forth with his arms crossed, face visibly in thought. "A Goddess of Peace... Yes, that is fascinating. Never before have I meant an entity such as yourself." Now, he stood still, and turned to her with a warm, but curious, smile. "One must still wonder what manner of calamity is destined for this place. After all, if a being of such magnanimous position as yourself is present - a being whose sole purpose is to keep everything peaceful - then, truly, such a being must be aware of an imminent event or, perhaps, another being that could threaten such a peace. Yes?" He laughed playfully. "Oh, how curious I am."

Suddenly, a weird DING! noise went off, originating from his pocket. He looked rather surprised, and reached into his pocket to produce a cell phone. It was a rather cheap flip phone, definitely nothing recent or flashy. He opened it and peered at the text message that appeared on screen. "Oh, fantastic! It appears I have won a free automobile!" It was actually just about the third scam he would end up falling for. He truly was too trusting of other people.

Alistair displayed a curiosity with everything around him, something that had worn down on Peace centuries ago. She was slightly envious of his enthusiasm, despite being older than he cared to admit.

Peace followed him in standing up. It would be much more convenient to converse from eye level, or as close to eye level as her short stature would allow. "No, there is no reason that you should worry about me," she said reassuringly. "Unless, of course, you want to start a war." Then she would have to intervene. She thought of the statement as dishonest without the added suggestion, though she doubted Alistair would want to start a war anytime soon. He didn't seem like that type of person. That being said, she was dreadful at guessing personalities, even after many years of practice.

Peace did not follow Alistair's stretches, nor did she return to her yoga. She instead just stood there. She continued this whilst he paced back and forth, her eyes mirroring his movements. "You have never met a Goddess? There are plenty of them in Manta Carlos currently, if you were not aware." She was mostly referencing those in her own Pantheon who had decided to travel to Earth all at once. There wasn't a particular reason for this that she knew of, but the group often moved around the Universe together for the sake of balance.

"A calamity? No, nothing I am aware of. You see, our Pantheon must always take up residence somewhere in the universe. We often stay relatively close to one another, generally for balance." She was hesitant to add the part about War, and intending to soften his impact, so she instead added, "There are certain members of the Pantheon who oppose one another with their views in certain areas. If one is allowed free reign over an area, well, it wouldn't be good." It was vague, she knew, but some things were better left unsaid.

Glancing down at Alistair's device he held, which she knew to be a mobile telephone, she was shocked to hear he had won a completely free automobile. She herself was very trusting, but it made no sense that a possession humans seemed to value so much would be given away. "Who is giving it to you?" She asked. Weird, but maybe he had an extremely generous friend? Peering at the screen, she wondered if it would be worthwhile purchasing one of her own.

Her explanation wasn't really too surprising. She made it sound like it was just normal duties that brought her to this world - maybe there wasn't much for him to be concerned about after all. Still, he couldn't be positive that she wasn't hiding anything. While Peace didn't appear at all to be lying, he wasn't quite certain as to her disposition at this point and thus couldn't be sure of anything. At least she was a Goddess of Peace... allegedly.

"Oh, perhaps I have misspoken." He started, after she mentioned there were other Goddesses. "I have indeed met other Goddesses, but I am afraid they were not quite as elegant as milady." He smiled and shrugged. Many onlookers may have understood his words to be flirtation - but truly he was just being genuine. Most so-called "Goddesses" he encountered were little more than demons trying to take advantage of humans or other ignorant victims. They generally played out the same - the alleged "Goddess" attempts to seduce him, and he stabs them in the face with his sword instead. Unfortunate situations, those.

There was a part of him that grew somewhat concerned over the "there are certain members of the Pantheon who oppose one another with their views in certain areas" bit. It sounded like there wasn't anything out of the ordinary going on - but it wouldn't be the first time that simple "opposing views" in a pantheon sparked interplanar warfare. He took her word for it that her presence meant stopping such an outcome, but he certainly wouldn't forget that possibility.

"I am glad to know that you have things taken care of, milady Peace. I am rest assured that we are not upon the brink of calamity." Well, at least they weren't as far as she knew, apparently. There was still the thing he came to investigate that most certainly could destroy the world. Even better, if that thing was found by one of the Celestials in her pantheon with an "opposing view"... he just needed to find it first to ensure that such a thing did not happen.

He studied his cell phone for a moment, then typed something back with great care. He found such devices rather odd - but it wasn't difficult for him to figure out how they worked. It wasn't long before another DING! occurred. "It would appear his name is Jimmy." He said. "He says he will give me his car as he doesn't need it anymore. I just need to go visit him." He seemed genuinely interested in this, but Peace was probably right to be suspicious. The phone would DING! again. Alistair looked down at it. "Jimmy currently resides here in the park! What fortune!"

Peace was flattered as Alistair told her he hadn't seen a Goddess as elegant as her. Where did all of the compliments come from, she wondered. Not even second guessing the situation or the possibility of him being anything but a rather charming young man, she smiled gratefully. "Oh, why thank you very much, Alistair. How can you be so polite at such a young age?" She said this with full knowledge that he was older than he admitted, but she had no intention of finding out his true age anyway. After all, Peace's age in appearance often affected her behaviour more than her true age ever could. After all, she wasn't sitting in a rocking chair knitting, nor did she plan to be.

The opposing views in the Pantheon had occasionally sparked disputes, but Peace firmly believed and valued balance. If they were to have Gods agreeing on everything, they wouldn't be fair and considerate leaders. It wasn't ideal having somebody disagree with most of Peace's opinions, but she understood why it had to be that way.

"That is good then," she said. Of course she didn't want to be on the 'brink of calamity,' as Alistair called it. "Unless you know of anything that could potentially disrupt the peace? In which case, please notify me so I may dispose of it before...others... get to it." She said this without suspicion, and only because she had done so thousands of times before. She didn't actually expect him to know too much anyway.

"...Sorry," she apologised after a pause. Her eyes looked up at his now. "I don't- I mean- I'm sure there is nothing to worry about." She believed this, too. She knew of nothing so far that could do too much damage to Earth.

The car offer seemed a little out of place, but who was Peace to decline a small adventure? After all, she had seen much more surprising things than a new car. "Is he really?" She said, a mix of suspicion and excitement. "Well, where in the park must you meet him?" Looking around, she saw no cars pull up, nor people exit their cars or glance at the two of them.

((Wow my last post was terrible. "I am rest assured" is not proper English and then Alistair used a contraction ["shouldn't"], both of which are things that should NEVER happen unless he is quoting someone/something or otherwise has a specific reason to do so... Yeahh don't mind me... pretend he didn't do those things please :bloodycat: The difficulty of playing a character that is intended to be amazingly intelligent beyond comparison is that I, myself, am not nearly as intelligent :armflap:))

She seemed genuine about not having knowledge of any immediate threats to the world - that was good and bad. Good in the sense that he didn't have to be concerned about what she knew, bad in the sense that she didn't have the information he was looking for. There was a part of him that considered informing her of the threat he was aware of - but he didn't (yet) see a point in worrying the Goddess. It was true that she could probably be a very big help in disposing of it - but he had his own concerns in bringing another pantheon into the mix. Especially when he hadn't yet met the other members...

"Fantastic." He simply smiled at her. "I am confident that you have things under control, milady." He formally bowed to her in his usual polite-but-also-somewhat-dramatic manner. "There is no necessity for an apology. I cannot imagine your role is simple." He didn't have to imagine it. He knew first hand how difficult it was.

When she started looking around for signs of people who could be "giving away the free car", he did the same. Indeed, no one in sight that could be gift-giver. His phone went off again and he looked at it once more. "It appears that Jimmy is on a nearby trail. I am aware of the location of which he speaks." He said confidently, then quickly replied to the text message before putting the phone away and looking at Peace. Apparently, the fact that this person was giving away a car while idling on one of the park's many trails didn't seem the least bit suspicious to him.

"Well, milady Peace. Perhaps I shall seek out this fortune. After all, I have yet to ride in an automobile." He said this matter-of-factly, as if the fact that he hadn't ridden in a vehicle wasn't at all strange considering where they were. "Perhaps it would be entertaining, yes? Do you have other plans upon your agenda, or do you wish to join me?" The text message indicated the name of the trail, and Alistair had already memorized the entirety of the park, which included its many trails. It certainly wouldn't be difficult to find the location. If he were to follow the trail to where this "Jimmy" person apparently was, however, it would lead to a rather secluded area that most visitors of the park never happened to walk by.

If she followed him, Peace would find out pretty quickly just how naive and overly trusting Alistair could be...
