She stood quietly, taking in her surroundings. She wasn't supposed to be here, and she knew it. But there was just something to the place that drew her to it.

Tora pushed her glasses up farther on her nose. With nothing really to do, and not wanting to just stand in one spot the whole time, she began to move around. There was no activity really around her. A bird chirped every once in a while, but other than that, nothing happened.

This was fine with her, for she loved the quiet. Growing up there was never a moment of peace in her life, but now it was quiet all the time. And Tora enjoyed every moment of it.

The forbidden area wasn't usually a place where Nicolas stayed. It was against the rules to be here, after all, and he always tried to follow the rules. But right now, he needed to be away from everything. Away from the school, away from just... life.

Brown hair waved back and forth gently in the breeze. Miserable golden eyes peered down at the ground, looking for any hint of movement. At the first sight of any people, he would probably get out of there. He didn't want to be around anyone, not even his own brother. He just couldn't stand it.

When he spotted a girl, Nicolas knew he had to just ignore it and try to remain unnoticed. However, it didn't exactly work that way. Nicolas fell from the branch, landing in a heap on the ground.

"Why now..." he groaned softly, checking to see if anything was broken. He didn't feel pain, but he still needed to check. For the moment, he had forgotten the presence of the female that he was now sitting a few meters in front of.

Tora spun when she heard something crashing through the branches of a tree. She gapped as a boy a few years older than her hit the ground. What was he doing up there anyway? She wondered.

Slowly she approached him. He didn't seem to be hurt as he sat up, but she still decided to check on him. She frowned slightly and came to stand above him. "You alright?" She asked softly.

Nicolas looked over himself, and upon finding nothing more than a few scratches, sighed. He wasn't sure if that was good or not, but at least there wasn't blood. If there had been blood, then it would have been a cause for alarm. He doubted that a little band-aid would cover something if he fell out of a tree. Band-aids couldn't heal broken arms.

Or broken hearts.

The seventeen-year-old slowly turned and looked up at her when she spoke. "In a way, yes," he answered truthfully, pushing on the ground and standing up. He brushed himself up. "Don't worry about me. It's not needed." He wasn't being rude, or even trying to be — he was just stating the simple truth. Golden eyes looked at her in silence, and it was obvious just from his eyes that he was not ok.

Tora quirked an eyebrow for a short moment before her face became unreadable. "...Are you sure?" But suddenly she stopped.

This man could be one of Robert's men. Maybe he had intentionally fallen through the tree to get her attention and keep it from something--or someone--that planned on killing her or doing something to her. Growing worried and fearful, Tora's brow furrowed again as she wondered who this boy was.

"Better not offer your name just yet, Tor. Never know what he'd do with the information." Xar told her.

To anyone around, it just sounded as if Tora had deepened her voice and was speaking to herself. But the next moment hervoice was normal.

"You're probably right. Better just be on my way." Tora looked at Nicolas and smiled as pleasantly as she could.

Nicolas continued to stare at her. He was about to answer to her question, but when she stopped, froze. It appeared to him that there was something wrong, and he didn't want to pry. He had too many problems right now to deal with another's. Mery was dead and he was too distraught to take more weight upon his frail shoulders.

"Better not offer your name just yet, Tor. Never know what he'd do with the information."

He blinked. Why was she deepening her voice? And why had she just said, what he thought, was her name when she didn't want to give it to him? "Um... pardon?" he asked cautiously.

"You're probably right. Better just be on my way."

"Um, ok. Bye then...?" he asked. This girl probably had some mental issues, and he couldn't deal with that, either.

"Um, ok. Bye then...?"

Tora blinked down at the boy. "You're leaving?" She asked. Shrugging, she smiled again. "Okay then! Bye!" She turned to walk away but tripped on a tree root and fell forward.

She used er hands to break her fall, and after catching her breath, she turned over and sat down. She glared at him. "Why'd you trip me?" She asked, an unwanted hint of fear upon her voice.

Nicolas just blinked. "... Bye," he said, perplexed. Well that had been a very... interesting meeting. He had turned to go when he heard her fall, and turned his head to look over his shoulder, just to see if she was alright. Upon seeing that she was, he was about to walk again when she spoke.

"Why'd you trip me?"

"How could I have tripped you if I'm over here?" he asked softly, an eyebrow raised. "You just tripped over a tree root. You're fine."

"He has a point, Tor. He couldn't have tripped you because of the distance. There is no way because his legs are not that long."

Tora huffed in anger. "Why're you taking his side?" she asked angrily. "Is it because he's a guy?"

Xar shook his head. "No. It's because he's right."

Still angry at Xar, Tora turned her glare to the boy. "A tree root? Did you put it there?" She looked down under her bottom and saw that there was, indeed, a tree root there.

Nicolas sighed inwardly. I'm surrounded by crazy people, the seventeen-year-old thought to himself. He listened to 'their' conversation, finding it rather strange. He hoped that she didn't really have mental problems and was just acting, for whatever reason. Alternate personalities were scary at times.

"A tree root? Did you put it there?"

"No," he said. Nicolas pointed to the tree and how the root was growing, showing that he couldn't have done it. "Why would I want to cause you, or anyone else, harm? I'm not like that."
