The store clerk was still examining the Smith & Wesson .40 handgun through thick spectacles. The day was only slightly warm, but the sweat was visibly glistening on his nose as Kirika drummed her fingers impatiently on the linoleum counter. Bullets were lined up in a leather case next to her hand.

“Well? Is the problem the cartridge or the gun?” she inquired in an impatient voice.
“You don’t understand,” the clerk said, putting the gun gently on the counter. “It’s difficult to tell with a cursory examination. You’ll also have to check each and every bullet in each round-“

Kirika ran her fingers through her red hair, thoroughly irritated. “Oh, I understand completely what you’re about to say. What you do not understand, is that I would not have come here without due preparation. I personally checked the gun itself, as well as each bullet that I have. What I came here for,” Kirika placed both hands on the counter and stared straight into the shopowner’s eyes. “Is a professional opinion. Honetly, I’d be happier if you just told me that I was taking terrible care of my firearms,” she hissed, doing her best not to outright cuss at the shopowner. She leaned forward, causing the shopowner to shrink away a few inches. "You wouldn't want to be the cause of an incident involving an amateur mistake, would you?"

It wasn’t quite noon yet, but there were a few other people in the gun shop. A couple of them edged away from Kirika and the storeowner, giving the irate customer a nervous looks. She shot them a look with a raised eyebrow before turning back to the clerk, watching him sweat wordlessly. Evidently she wasn’t used to a regular standard of service.

"Well? I'm waiting."

Adelene was just taking a random stroll downtown then. But she heard the commotion from the shop, and was lured closer by the words she heard. Cartridge, gun... She curiously went inside, catching more of the situation.

A complaint apparently.

She was staring at the back of the girl complaining in the counter, and had the gut feeling of familiarity towards her. And her voice and her tone. She went closer, taking a peek to see the problem. "Excuse me," she was also curious about the gun that was being examined by the guy behind the counter. The guy seemed tensed. Everyone else in the shop was, too. Adelene was the only one who didn't feel so heavy. "What seems to be the problem? I can help, I can examine the gun if you let me." She turned to the redhead as she asked, but her voice trailed off to silence as the odd feeling of familiarity came back. "Uh... Have we met?"

Kirika turned towards the other customer, both her eyebrows raised. This person looked familiar. She even vaguely remembered complaining about how old she had become, but she couldn't put her finger on when she had seen this person. It didn't matter, at any rate.

Kirika twisted around so that she was leaning backwards on the counter, blocking the gun from the stranger's sight. She folded her gloved arms over her chest, her eyebrows raised in skepticism and amusement.

"Hardly. I've never seen you before in my life." Her eyes raked Adelene from head to toe, lingering on the goggles for a moment too long. "Just who do you think you are? A traveling gun expert? Think you can outdo any other gun-shop owner?" She cocked her head towards the shopkeeper behind the counter, who, in spite of himself, was still standing perfectly still, though the sweat was glistening all over his face.
