Name: Mara Kaminsky
Age: 15
Birthday: March 15
Gender: Girl
Species: Human
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: Sophomore
Appearance Description: Mara has messy, short, wavy blonde hair and green eyes that sit behind large, round, thin spectacles. Her pale skin is usually smudged with some kind of ink smudge or dust. Her uniform is usually neat in the morning, but gets mildly unkempt and dusty as the day goes by. She always stands up straight and has a maniacal smile on her face, especially when she’s “on the job.”
Personality Description: Mara watched a lot of TV in her early days, so she always has some kind of overblown persona going on. She usually acts like the hardboiled detective on the field or the menacing mafia boss in the school paper’s office. She likes to feel like a hardboiled detective to feel awesome.
Barring the larger-than-life persona, Mara is actually smarter than lots of people her age. She also has determination to do what she needs to do, or what she wants to do. It’s just that her attention goes to things beyond the classroom, or beyond the conventional bounds of society.
Powers:Due to a contract with a fairy, Mara has the ability to transform into a cloud of transparent gas. While in gaseous form, she can slip through air vents, cracks in between doors and the floor, and other similar gaps. She can also freely fly around, and doesn’t need air to breathe. However, she still needs to transform into solid form to stay hydrated and eat food.
People with supernatural sight can see a greenish tint in the cloud of gas. Mara can’t bring much more than her clothes in her gas cloud. While in gaseous form, Mara occupies 30x30 feet of volume. If for any reason her gas cloud is separated by an airlock or a similar object, Mara can’t revert into solid form.
Biography:
Mara’s parents worked two high-pressure jobs. Neither of them had much time for their daughter, who was usually left to her devices. They used to hire different babysitters per week, but when Mara grew older, they just left her be at home. Mara would come home, find dinner in the fridge, and watch television.
Soon, Mara grew enamored by old detective dramas. The hardboiled detective persona called out to her, and Mara sought to be the best detective she could be. In school, she was usually found taking notes, and occasionally poking her nose where it didn’t belong.
Things came to a head in middle school. While poking around in a forest rumored to be a scene of a crime, Mara came across a faerie. She was immediately intrigued, and asked the faerie all sorts of questions that would have made a regular mortal crumble. The faerie, annoyed, turned Mara into a cloud of gas. Realizing that she was in trouble, Mara shoved the faerie around in gaseous form (Basicallly she made a tiny whirlwind around the fairy that batted him about) until the faerie caved in and offered Mara a contract. Mara would tell the faerie all about the human world, while Mara would be able to turn into a gas cloud and back. Mara quickly agreed.
Back in school, Mara decided that her “detective skills” belonged somewhere where she would be allowed to be nosy, and signed up for the school paper. She ended up being the editor-in-chief for three years straight, until high school. That was when she was invited to Starlight Academy. The faerie, who only introduced himself as Cheep, came along for the ride, and also became a resident of Manta Carlos, though boarded in the forest.
