It was a few minutes past 3pm. The sun was no longer strikingly bright yellow; it's become orange and has set into a relatively low angle in the horizon. The sky was still bright blue, but pink and orange clouds have begun to invade it, and shadows have begun to stretch over the ground.
Alaude and Theo had already met in town a while ago, and they already managed to arrive at the lake, carrying with them a narrow two-person kayak. They had rented it from a place near the beach, and while it would have been better to just stay there for kayaking, Alaude preferred the still waters of the lake, considering he wasn't even a beginner to the sport. And there wouldn't be a lot of people in the lake around this time.
Alaude had attached a cart to his motorcycle for the kayak and the other equipments they needed. He and Theo traveled back to the lake with that.
He killed the engine some distance away from the academy, some ways deeper into the woods and nearer the other more solitary side of the lake. Parking it beside the tree, Alaude unmounted the cart and asked Theo to help him carry the kayak right where the water met the ground.
The way Alaude had prepared all this for today... he wouldn't be able to hide that he was looking forward to it. But he kept himself quiet, as always, just as he always did during the past few days that they've gotten a bit more acquainted. He kept quiet until there was no more reason to stay silent, with the kayak one push away from the water, and everything else set.
"What now?" he asked, turning to Theo.
