The moon shone through a veil of clouds over the east beach of Manta Carlos, the hiss of the waves only just overpowering the sound of the wind. The night was silent save for the white noise of the elements. Perhaps it was this calm that almost let the suited form of Diam seem perfectly in place. The footprints he had left in the sand traced his walk back towards the city, deeper pockets marking places he had stood for extended periods to look out over the sea.

The small vampire bent over and selected a stone from the ground, tossing it couple times in his hand. After watching the water for a few moments a snap of his wrist sent the rock skipping out over the waves.

It was nice to allow such diversions now and again.

A raindrop plipped off Diam's shoulder, drawing his gaze to the sky. A light drizzle began to fall, marking small patches in the sand and ripples in the water. Perhaps he should have thought to bring an umbrella.

The spider being walked bare foot, his arachnid legs folded on his back, his sharp eyes looking at the sea curiously. He'd read about it, seen pictures but this was the first time he'd ever seen it. He'd stop, wiggling his clawed toes in the sand, leaning down to run his fingers through it before continuing on.

He'd stop when he spotted someone ahead, small, a child by the looks of him. Ragno had little knowledge about how children are raised but he believed letting on wander like that was unusual. He'd glance up as the rain started to fall, closing his eyes and enjoying it before looking back to the apparent child.

Tilting his head he'd continue forward, stopping and turning to face the sea, looking at the waves. The child was to his left, within speaking distance though he remained quiet for the moment.

The movement at his peripheral caused Diam's head to turn, just enough to scrutinize the spider. If he was surprised at all, his face didn't show it. Diam had certainly come to expect such quirkiness from the residents of Manta Carlos. His eyes drifted over the spider's form, taking in the many peculiarities visible over it's clothes, then swung back out to the sea.

"The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew,
The furrow followed free;
We were the first that ever burst
Into that silent sea.

Down dropt the breeze, the sails dropt down,
'Twas sad as sad could be;
And we did speak only to break
The silence of the sea.
"

His voice was calm and measured as he recited the stanzas of the old poem. The irony wasn't lost on him as he allowed the silence to lengthen between the two of them. "It is fascinating, no? The terrible beauty of the sea is one of the few things that has not diminished for me over my long years. Many have given their love to her, but I have seen choice few that can say they have gained hers."

Ragno would tilt his head as the supposed child spoke, listening to the poem, listening to their thoughts on the sea. He'd remain silent a moment longer before turning to look at him, his eyes taking on a thoughtful sheen. "It....she...cannot truly love..," he'd speak slowly, his voice calm and smooth, "because....people who want her love always leave....while she always is."

In truth he knew little of poems or the sea, so he only spoke his thoughts, his opinion on what little he knew. The arachnid would look at the small vampire a moment longer, curiosity still showing in his eyes.

"You are a child?" he'd ask, even with the small amount of interactions he'd had he could tell this supposed child was odd. The rain continued to fall on them, but Ragno paid it no mind.

The spider's response elicited a single chuckle from Diam. "I suppose that is true enough. She certainly bares the weary bristles of a lovelorn woman. Woe is to us that outlive everyone else."

The vampire selected another rock, skipping it once again out into the serf. "I am and I am not," He responded cryptically. "My age far exceeds that of my form." He flashed Ragno a grin, showing his fangs. That was usually explanation enough.

"My name is Diam." He said turning to face the arachnid. His hand crossed over his chest as he bowed slightly. "I suspect you are not a stranger to the deceptions that a body might convey."

The fangs told him nothing, he was new to the supernatural world and so vampirism didn't come to mind. "You are older than your body?" he'd ask, confused on how that could be possible. "How....how have you not aged?"

"What kind of body deception?" this strange false child was assuming he knew things that he did not. "Do people here often hide their age by warping their body?" that was a disturbing idea, even to one so socially ignorant.

"Do....do you choose to be like this?" he didn't understand why anyone would want to look like a child when they're older.

Diam tilted his head to the side, a couple of raindrops blinking off his temple before he righted it again. "Apologies. I should not assume such things. Most creatures of a similar type you that I have met, and indeed I would say on this island, have faced many prejudices. I am glad you do not seem bothered by such things, but all the same I should not proceed so flippantly with my own."

letting his eyes drift closed for a moment, the vampire shook his head just once. "I do not choose this, Or rather, I have not been afforded a choice in this matter. I am certain there would be some magicks out in the world somewhere that would allow me to alter my current state, but they would be of unknown cost and too often temporary." He turned to look into the sky, extending his hand in a gesture towards the stars. "The virtual scenarios on the observation station, for example, are rather fascinating but merely a temporary illusion."

Diam let his body return to it's standard pose as he turned back to Ragno. His body was eerily still, and his movements were oddly stiff and stilted, expending no wasted energy. "I am what is known as a vampire. I believe we are fairly common, at least compared to many of the other mythological refugees on this island. Many of us were once human, and I would say that very few of us remain so. We are often characterized as unholy creatures, unable to bare the light of the sun. Most of use drink blood as our sustenance, which is one reason why our fangs have become something of our icon."

"Have you been on Manta Carlos for long? I believe you encounter many more of my kind, and just as many variations, if you reside here for a moderate amount of time."

He'd squint a bit. "Fangs do not bother me, I have some as well," he'd say with a thoughtful hum. "As for blood, that is not to far from what I heat, I can have only meat." He didn't understand why requiring a blood only diet would bother anyone.

"Long?.....No not long," the rain would run down his face, but he paid it no mind. "It is strange....," he'd tilt his head. "Odd things like us being so common here."

Ragno would glance at the water, seeing the distant flash of lightning in the distance. "You've lived here long?" he'd ask.

Diam chuckled once. "I suppose we may both feel that way, until one of us is bitten." Despite such an ominous statement, he wandered closer to the arachnid. There was no need to converse so far from each other, and he felt safe enough now. "I believe most of the legends suggest a preference for human blood, which I can understand might make us seem quite threatening. I find myself bemoaning that I never truly came to have such a fear of disruption, and yet such a craving for it as normal humans have."

"Yes, this is quite a strange place." He would glance up at the moon for a moment, before settling his eyes on the horizon. "Logic would dictate that we were the majority somewhere. The world would be a rather lonely place if that silent comfort were not there... You are a refreshing conversation, young one. I am glad to have expanded my walk tonight."

"I would not say for long, but my metric is rather skewed. A few years now I believe. The Island is calm enough for me to craft my dolls in peace. Though perhaps it has been a disservice I've made so few for its inhabitants"

"Blood?" he'd tilt his head, "that is not all different from what I have to eat, I can only eat meat." He remembered seeing all the different foods, but being unable to eat it. "Perhaps we are not all that different then," he'd tap a finger on his own fangs.

He'd look out towards the water. "There are many like you here?" he'd ask. "I read that there was, in the papers they gave me," cultural classes and such to help him adjust.

"Dolls?" he'd ask curiously. "Like toys?" he'd seen such things here and there. "Why do you make them?"
