Angelo let out a snort at Eloise's comment about his hair, waving it off.

"Takes a lot of time," he pointed out. "But I like it."

Really, there wasn't nearly as much of a need for it on the islands. At home it had been a way to hide his scars from the world, but on Manta Carlos a few big scars would hardly even raise an eyebrow. People saw aliens on a day to day basis--what was a few scars?

Several other tables were breaking up right then, and as Angelo's eyes swept across the room, he spotted one other pairing breaking up at almost the exact same time. Angelo got up himself, heading over towards them, and while his first choice was the man, his card said heterosexual which knocked him right out. Instead, he redirected, giving the woman's card only a brief glance--bisexual and monogamous???—before deciding he'd sit with her, even if she looked several years younger than him.

"Angelo," he said, sticking his hand out for a shake. It was only once he'd sat that he bothered to read the rest of the card, noting that not only was she significantly older than she looked, but that, somehow, Angelo had managed to sit down with a Rosales.

(Angelo - Male - Bisexual - Monogamous - Single - 27)

"Not at all, dear!" Bara smiled wide. "I'd love it if you sat with me."

She hadn't expected the first person to come to her to be... translucent. Or pink. It was weird, but Bara was fine with that. Bara was weird too. Everyone from her home was weird.

"We have to do this fast, so let's get right into it." Every statement Bara made was upbeat and enthusiastic. She was just tickled by this whole Valentine's concept. "I'm a professor at the Academy, and I have multiple degrees, but I teach botanical alchemy and some bioalchemy. I'm also a giant plant that can shapeshift. At school I usually look like this." Bara added that last remark in a conspiratorial whisper. She had her phone ready, and she showed Cardamon one of the many selfies she had taken in her fabulous manly form. Bara's man form sparkled, just like the big buff men in one of her students' asian cartoons. "My other degree is in art history and aesthetics."

She glanced at the timer. "But enough about me. Tell me about you! You look like an interesting person."

Charlie sat patiently, their hands clasped together in their lap as they waited for someone, anyone, to approach. Nith mentally suggested that they initiate with someone who didn't have a partner. Snal however thought that if they waited just a bit longer...

And there is was. Tall, dark, and... pirate-y. This Eloise introduced himself and lunged forward to kiss Charlie. Who simply sat there in a moment of cognitive processing and didn't move. Realizing what this was, Charlie finally reacted, reciprocating with all the skill of someone who has never kissed before in their life.

Pulling away, they furrowed their brow curiously and muttered to themself,
"That was a kiss, yes?"
"Indeed, but none of the symptoms described in your research. No electricity, no butterflies."
"Perhaps we just need to repeat the-"

Charlie blinked and looked at Eloise, as if noticing him for the first time. "Ah, apologies. That was our first kiss. It was not at all what we were expecting. Officer Charlie Justice of the SSOF. Pleased to meet you."
Charlie extended a hand forward in an offer to shake, smiling an awkward, sincere smile.

This next person was…a lot bigger than Allan. She felt like he was giving her an odd look. This guy intimidated her a bit more than Allan did.

“A-ah…Caterina…” she stammered out as she took his hand to shake. Her hand felt so small in Angelo’s.

“U-um…uh…” Caterina tried to think of what to say. It was speed dating—it had to be both detailed and quick! But now her head felt foggy and she wasn’t sure what to say.

“I, ah…I…I work at the museum…in the historical documents department…”

She could feel a tentacle squirming in the palm of her hand, which she quickly hid under the table. Damn Banyoles Monster—why did it have to react to nervous energy? She tried to best to keep any other tentacles suppressed—which further distracted her as she tried to think of things to say.

“I like…reading, and games…um…”

With her free, not-tentacle hand, she started fussing with the roses in her hair again. Those obvious symbols of her close connection to the Rosales family.

Up close, Angelo realized that the girl had, somewhat bizarrely, no pupils. Her eyes were just yellow, and that was that.

"And you're part of the Rosales family," Angelo finished for her. There was no malice in the words, just a simple observation. "Another one of Klaus's, I guess?"

A pretty safe bet, since Klaus tended to just straight up adopt anyone that wasn't tied down.

"Historical documents are pretty interesting. Is that a job, or a career--something you wanted to do for a living? I'm police, for the record."

Angelo added a quick mention of his job, even though it was almost an afterthought. He was fairly good at staying comfortable in the conversation, and really wasn't bothered by the fact that Caterina was nervous. She seemed nice enough, although he wasn't entirely sold on the thought of giving his number to a Rosales.

Did he even have to give his number to a Rosales? With how Klaus was, she probably already had it.

Cardamon nodded with every word this person said, settling into the chair across from them. He'd been letting his hair grow out, and he'd wondered if it was okay for him to look like this when the person across from him so obviously belonged on a magazine of some kind.

At hearing that this beautiful looking person was a plant and a teacher of botanical sciences (with multiple degrees, and a teacher? Holy heck!) Cardamon leaned forward. His pink tinting dissipated somewhat as it was replaced with true intrigue. He was always excited to learn more about the people who lived on the island, especially people who weren't quite made of human stuff, like him. It made him feel less alone.

When she whipped out her phone to show him what she looked like in school, he was expecting just a change of style, perhaps something more conservative for the students. But no. To his shock, it was a muscular, masculine body that made the color come back to his "skin" instantly. God, they were so pretty.

"Wow, you're... so pretty! And handsome? I can't even deal with it." He smiled a little, looking away as they asked about himself.

"Oh, my name's Cardamon. I graduated from the school a few years ago. I work in the town as a sculptor and a Heartsmith. Heartsmithing is my main profession, and sculpting helps pay the bills. But I do a lot of it." He shifted in his seat. "As you can probably see, I'm made of glass. Totally translucent. It makes stairs kind of scary, but it's lots of fun to see people react to me on the street."

"Oh, do you want to see some of my work?" Cardamon pulled out his phone, pulling up a picture of finished pieces in the sand, looking like shells watched up from the sea. "The stuff I've started making recently takes a lot of inspiration from plants, their leaves especially. I think their shape is really calming and beautiful, you know...?"

Cardamon stared softly for a moment or two before snapping out of it. "Ah, look at me talk! So.... uh, what do you like to do for fun?"

Bara basked in his flattery. She loved being appreciated for her beauty, but people hardly ever commented on it back at work. Was this normal for a dating scenario? She should do this more often!

She wondered if Cardamon's turning pink was anything like blushing in humans. What a delightful thought!

"Those are pretty," Bara said of his sculptures. "I can see the botanical influences." She really could appreciate them, but she knew they were neither as pretty nor as awe-inspiring as herself. Just look at the way that Cardamon was staring at her. "I think plants can be beautiful too, if I do say so myself." She laughed.

What did she like to do for fun? "Ah, a couple of things. I like photosynthesizing. I follow some fashion and modeling news for ideas on how to shape my appearance. Everything you see here is shapeshifted in." She gestured at herself. "And I have a couple of side projects at the Academy which I fund out of my paycheck. They'd take way more time than we have for me to explain, though, but I'd love to talk to you more about it later!" Noticing the time, Bara began to write down her phone number and twitter handle on a piece of napkin for him - more people needed to see her selfies on a regular basis. They were very good selfies.

"Before we run out of time, I have to know. What is heart-smithing? I've never heard of such a thing, but it sounds charming."

Soon, Cardamon would have her number.

As Eloise pulled away, he was glad he even got to kiss her in the first place. And now, he was being evaluated. This should be good. He watched her talk to herself, chin in hands, still lying belly down on the table and unable to tell if it was a species thing or some mental illness stuff. He remembered one of his mates fell off the ship and hit his head on a particularly mean-looking rock, and suddenly became three different people.

"Pleased ta meet ye too, Charlie! I'm guessin' me kissin' ye ain't up to par?" He reached out to caress her cheek. "Ye know, we can try another one. Can't promise any fireworks or butterflies, but I can definitely promise other things." He waggled his eyebrows.

Caterina blinked those pupil-less eyes of hers as Angelo brought up that she was part of the Rosales family.

"Ah, yes, I am…I was brought into the family a few months ago…” She squeezed at her braid. That was after the virtual reality simulator that she had become fond of the Rosales family and had wanted to be a part of it…but, there was no reason to get into all of that.

And then Angelo brought up that he was a cop. No wonder this conversation felt kind of…awkward.

But really, police? First she went on a date with Vatar, who was an intern with the police, and now this. Granted, the date with Vatar was before she was adopted into the Rosales family, but still…

Anyway, the Rosales family seemed like a topic best avoided.

“It is a career,” Caterina said with a tentative nod. “I am quite passionate about preserving history. Do you enjoy being on the force?”

"Oh no," Charlie said, shaking their head, "We are certain you are an adequate kisser. Though we would not be opposed to further tests."
Charlie blinked curiously at the caress of their cheek, slowly retracting the offered hand, making a mental note that handshakes might not be as common as they had originally believed.

Other things? Charlie's interest visibly piqued. "Perhaps we should take time to..." "No. We are already here Snal. No more research. No more fact checking."

Charlie's face screwed up in displeasure for a moment, then relaxed. The awkward smile returned. "Alright, Eloise. What did you have in mind?" They lifted their hand to Eloise's face, mimicking the caress he gave to them.
