"The chalk? I think I nicked it from a classroom. So no, chalk has no magic. The shapes on the other hand, well those are the killer."

Aedan came over and traced his finger over the lines and circles. Each side consisted of a large circle filled with different lines and patterns. Aedan stopped and pointed at different squiggles.

"How a proper full-circle works is it has different marks placed in different places to make different results. To fine tune, you add all these decorational designs, called adjectives, to modify the function and make it smoother. The sentience and process marks I had on the front weren't the problem. The adjectives were to sharp and sporadic."

Gears turned in Basil's head, and he listened carefully and attentively. "So basically like... coding in real life, is what you're doing here." He grinned at the comparison.

"Is this a you thing, your power or whatever, or can anyone get the hang of it if they work hard enough?" Even if he couldn't do it, he wanted to learn all the specifics. Knowledge of special abilities always made for a good meal.

Aedan almost laughed at the idea of coding. Coding is rigid, one thing always has the same outcome, but alchemy is artistic. You have to be creative.

"I spent close to sixteen years straight doing it, so it might as well be a 'me' thing. Very few can do what I do. You can learn it if that's what you're asking. Its abandoned in most of the world and few know it's existence."
