Days passed since Lenn's encounter with Uzume. They had made a deal and much to her surprise, the inspector held true to her word. A USB Stick was found in the very issue of The Gentleman's Gun where she was featured on the front cover. Clevah' girl... Since then, There had been several exchanges of information, each piece she recieved became more jucier than the previous. Come to find out, Donovan was really on the roll lately. His business had somehow bloomed and a lot of smaller organizations that Lenn was familiar with had joined with him. Drugs, Prostitution, money--he had his hand in almost every cookie jar. That smug bastard. It made sense that he would know where she was. He had a lot of resources now. Whatever. No matter how many thugs he had at his disposal, nobody was going to stop her.

Oh, and she was going to find him no matter what. His resources were also going to be his weaknesses.

She spent majority of her time with research while Jacob was away. Jacob...Should she tell him? For the longest time she debated about that as she gathered her intel. It probably wouldn't be a good idea. After all, they were polar opposites when it came to the term 'Justice' and she didn't want him to see what...she could do when it came to the job. Hell, he might even attempt to stab her in her sleep after spending a few days with her on a mission. Not that she'd blame him...

Sigh. She was going to have to do this without him. He couldn't be exposed to 'her' world. It was just too damn toxic. For now, she was going to enjoy what little time she had with Jacob. Who knows? There could be a possibility that she wouldn't be able to see him again. It didn't matter how much confidence she had in her skills, there was always that possibility...

With plans made for the 'trip', she decided to try and occupy herself with other innocent tasks...Like cooking and man it was hard. The pasta box said it was supposed to be easy and tasty, but after she was done with everything, the sauce was somehow salty and the pasta came out al-dente. Ugh. She settled for coffee instead and browsed the internet. Home sure was boring without Jacob around...

Life with another person in the apartment was both a familiar treat and a situation in which he needed to readjust. Having someone to come home to after work, and to share a bed with, was the most comforting thing in the world after having lived alone and divorced for so long. But in that time, he had also grown used to being alone. There were habits he needed to fix or adjust for Lenn's sake and his own. There was a bit of an unspoken agreement that the two of them were quite fine with each other's bodies, but walking around in the nude like he occasionally now seemed more inappropriate than before. Also, he was more compelled to keep up his appearance even inside the home, now that he had a woman always in his presence.

There were some things, however, that he most definitely needed adjusting to that he had no precedence for. Lenn's paranoid assassin lifestyle made its presence known with only a few light touches here and there. Jacob had never seen so many guns in his house before, and hidden just about everywhere too. Then there were her paranoid habits that had served her well previously, but were now simply odd. He supposed that when she moved the bed away from the wall that she was adjusting it so she would not be caught off guard by... Wall bombs? He let it be.

Lately Jacob had noticed a small change in Lenn's behavior. She had always been a little on the jumpy side because of her previous life, but recently she had seemed more concerned and occupied with something. It could have been nothing, and it was entirely possible he was just seeing Lenn as she truly was now that he was with her nearly all the time. But he could spot something wrong a mile away, and he was not about to let it become something detrimental to their relationship.

As he opened the door to the apartment after a day at the Academy, he was set on bringing his concerns up. Letting that kind of stuff stew silently in a relationship was just begging for trouble.

Seeing Lenn, he immediately made a bee line for her and leaned over to kiss her cheek. At least she should know he still loved her before he brought up something too heavy.

"Hey there, love. How ya been today? No Photoshoot?"

It wasn't hard to find cat videos. She didn't have to try, but once she started, she couldn't stop. It was amazing and horrifying at the same time. There were so manyyyy

Click! She heard the clicks of the door locks and immediately closed the mewing tags and put something else up that was more...suitable. Like a movie. Yeah, that's more like it! Something about the one and only ring... "Hey luv'!" she returned the kiss and shook her head, "Not today, wos yesterday remembah'?" Hopefully the director was going to keep to his word about giving the crew a vacation. They had been hitting it off well with the photo shoots and more material had been used for other magazines. They had worked hard and earned it.

Something seemed a little...off with Jacob though as if something was on his mind. What could it be though? It...It wasn't the bed, was it? She still could remember how Uzume had made it a point that she could hear them at night with their ahem, extra-cirricular activities. She pulled away the bed specifically because of that. Didn't need anyone hearing her business and she may have let it slip that she moved the bed just because of it. Hell, he probably thought her paranoia went to such lengths. "So how wos work? Weren't there some exams ya had to do? Thought oy' wos on m'own for dinner tonoight."

"Ah! Right. You're gettin' time off now."

Sometimes it still surprised him that he was dating--literally, not technically--a lingerie model. There was one time a student attempted to pull the "aloof cool guy" act on him by insinuating that it really was not that big a deal since Jacob was not dating a Victoria's Secret model, or person of similar stature. But then Jacob brushed him off and simply directed him to a magazine with Lenn on the cover. Lenn was still a babe in lacy underthings, so what was the difference other than pay?

But there more pressing matters at hand. Jacob shrugged off his bag and leaned took a seat next to Lenn, moving the laptop out of the way for the moment. He put an arm around her and hugged her close.

"I finished those up at the Academy, just so I could be home with you."

The statement was true. However, he realized it was a bad segway into his real concern. His smile softened into a more concerned expression. He looked away from her for a moment, then forced himself to look her in the eye.

"But... *sigh* Lenn, I need to ask you something. Now, in the relatively short time we've been together, we've both opened up to each other. A lot."

There should have been no explaining just how intimate they both were with each other's lives and pasts.

"There's not much we can hide now. Lately, however, I've noticed that you've been... a little off. Like something is buggin' you or on your mind a lot, and sometimes you even seem distant."

He put his hand on her's.

"If there was something going on, you'd tell me, right?"

It was still kind of weird that she was...dating period. Honestly, how in the world did she find someone like him? Okay, maybe she didn't find him exactly, but either way it was good. Great, even. Not to mention, his looks were a bonus. He always tended to her needs whether it was grabbing dinner for the night or even a cuddle here and there. All was good and even though there were more reasons for living with each other than dating, she was enjoying it! Hopefully he was enjoying it just as much as she was. Well, she was enjoying it up till the point where that smile faded. Uh-oh. What was wrong? No, more like what did she allow him to see? It was... a little difficult hiding things now besides her guns. They were around each other all the time now and Jacob was beginning to really beginning to see how she functioned, what were her habits, etc.

"Yeh, we sure have, luv'," she totally agreed with him. Jacob was probably the only person in the world that she was this close to...Which posed a problem.

He could sense that something was off and that was beginning to make her feel guilty. She wasn't hiding something big...Okay, maybe it was big, but it was to protect them both. She opened her mouth to speak--to tell him that everything was fine and he didn't need to worry about anything-- then he made her feel worse. Crap. The only time she managed to peel her gaze away from those eyes were to look down at his hand placed over hers. This was probably the worst interrogation ever in all of the ones she had ever gone through. It was worse than torture, than mind-games or even water getting into your eyes and having no way of stopping it.

If there was something going on, you'd tell me, right?

He wasn't that good, dammit. He had a big handicap over her and that was being her boyfriend. Hiding things now was harder than she thought. "I'm...Sorry, hon. Guess i've just got a lot on my mind, that's all," she replied with a--Oh god, she had never spoken such...such...proper english before. What. The. Hell. Even her own accent was betraying her. It felt like she was committing a sin trying to keep her personal mission a secret. "Ahem, Whoy do you ask?"

Jacob was momentarily taken aback by Lenn's extremely proper answer. When he had first met her, her accent had thrown him for a little bit of a loop considering how thick it could get sometimes. But he quickly became used to her accent and thought nothing of it since, until she gave her answer without the least bit of inflection. Only by hearing the contrast did he, for once, realize just how thick Lenn's accent could be. The feeling was quickly pushed to the side and he got his mind back on track.

Her answer was, frankly, unsatisfactory for him. When he came to that conclusion, Jacob started second guessing himself and wondering if he really was just being paranoid.

"Well, I ask because you just seem out of it lately. And not in your usual, looking-over-your-shoulder kind of way."

Lenn's usual paranoia had become familiar to Jacob, and he could hardly blame her considering everything she had gone through and what she was still experiencing.

"I really really don't want to put it this way, but it almost feels like you're doing something behind my back. Nothing unfaithful! I don't mean that. Like... Like... Hm."

Something suddenly occurred to him.

"Are you doing a job for... Uzume, or something? 'Cause I the feeling started after she came over last time. Is she blackmailing you?!"

Seeing his expression once she let that slip was...horrific. It was only making herself look worse. It was like trying to hide an affair after the discovery of another man's thong; she just couldn't hide it. She hated hiding things from him--especially after she had gained his trust not too long ago. He wasn't just some ordinary piece of cover or a partner; Jacob was her lover and she too trusted him with everything she had. That's why...

And there it was. He knew that something was up and there wasn't any way around it. Then again, the way he put that comment... "N-No! It's not--!" Her eyes grew big and she even waved for emphasis that no, she was totally not seeing anyone else. As far as she was concerned, nobody could compare to him and--Oh thank god. He began to second guess everything. That was good! Then maybe she wouldn't be going on this mission with a situation like this still in the air. She was about to breathe a sigh of relief once he broke away his gaze but...

Then he was right on the money. Sort of. It was hard to black mail a professional killer that...you know, killed people for a living. "No! She's not blackmailin' me nothin', just magazines..." which had a flash drive hidden inside every issue. She sighed. There was no use hiding it. He'd find out no matter what. The only difference was the level of angry she was going to have to deal with and whether to deal with it now or later. "...Okay, foine. Oy'...plan on dealin with Donovan...Solo. Uzume knows...an' she's been 'elpin me do it. Oy' wos gonna let you know wot was happenin' afta' oy' left..." But, he just had to look at her that way.

The idea that Uzume was blackmailing Lenn for something was completely in the realm of possibility in Jacob's mind. Uzume was an intelligent and extremely perceptive woman who could have easily deduced Lenn's hidden life. For all he knew, Uzume knew before she even visited that one time, or something might have happened during that period where he had gone all drunk-girl-passed-out. Following that, he could definitely see Uzume coercing Lenn into doing some dirty work that even a private detective could not pull off.

Jacob was so ready to bang on Uzume's door and finally put his foot down about her messing around in his life with her detective bullshit. But Lenn's clarification put a pause on that notion.

"Magazines?"

He wondered what magazines had to do with Uzume, or anything. It was a strange mention that quickly got overshadowed by Lenn's confession. It was a realization that took all the anger and anxiety out of Jacob's system, to be replaced by concern.

"Dealing with Donovan? You mean, like..."

Jacob made a throat-slitting gesture.

"That kind of dealing-with? Alone? And you weren't going to tell me? W-Why?"

There was only the barest hint of accusation in his voice. For the most part, Jacob really just wanted to know the answers to his questions, and he really wanted Lenn to know that he was still on her side. He was just... confused.

It was a good thing that Jacob's anger was directed elsewhere. She didn't want to ever see or feel that side of him. Then he was putting two and two together. Had to admit the throat-slitting was kind of cute. She nodded, "Yeh, that." Jacob was pretty smart...Too smart. She almost winced when he stammered. Why didn't she want to take him? This wasn't a field trip or some vacation she just so happened to win. This was a life or death situation. "Because...You don' know wot m'world is loike...It's dark...an' oy' hafta' do wotever it takes," she confessed. It was true. The world she lived in was dark. There was no such thing as honor or a sense of...anything. It was every man for himself. She had watched people who she had known for years stab each other in the back for meager pennies.

It's mor loike oy' don't want you to see this soide of me...

She touched his chest...or more specifically where his gunshot wound was. That thing was a daily reminder that she really needed to be more careful--more careful than she had ever been. "...An' oy' jus' dont want anythin' bad happenin to ya. Last time...I dunno what I would have done if you..." she didn't even want to say it.

After experiencing a shootout that may have nearly killed him, Jacob had an idea of what Lenn's world was like. Several armed men shooting up an entirely apartment complex just to get at her painted a good overall picture of the kind of stuff she had to deal with as an assassin. It was the underground world, the dark underbelly of society where violence was common and lives were cheap. However Jacob was not so uppity as to believe his experience even scratched the surface of what really went down in that world.

He also had an idea of what was weighing on Lenn's mind, especially after she touched his chest. Scooting even closer to her, Jacob hugged her comfortingly for a moment.

"I understand. But I also don't think you can just leave me out of this, Lenn. It's not like I don't know about your former life."

Jacob could just feel part of him warning him not to get involved. He ignored it.

"As much as you want to keep me away from all of this--and I understand why--we're both in this together now. Taking that bullet pretty much sealed the deal."

There was one thing he wanted to address directly, after confirming what Lenn was up to and her plans to rid her life of her dark past.

"And... And I gotta tell you, Lenn. I-I don't know how I feel about, erm, taking out Donovan. Isn't there a, y'know, better way?"

Perhaps it was naive of him to think that way. Lenn would certainly think so and he knew it. But killing just was not something Jacob was going to be silent about. In the back of his mind, he knew that it was probably going to be the only way to end Lenn's career as an assassin, and that killing was common to her so it would weight less on her mind. But he didn't want her to have one more death on her hands if she could avoid it, at the very least.
