The sun in the sky seemed to shine at its best on this Monday afternoon. The day was still in its youth and not to mention the weather was perfect. A light breeze that tickled your face as it rolled by keeping you from being over heated by the sun and its beautiful radiance. The trees of the woods keep a light shadow over head as well as if the wind and trees kept a pact to lighten the suns awesome glow. The grass was low, not even ankles length. Almost looked to be freshly cut, it sure smelled like it. The fumes of the wilderness was like the perfect stimuli for the human nose, or any nose for that matter. It was like smelling home made cookies fresh out the oven or the sweet smell of freshly cut wood. One could only experience this type of day when they have no troubles in the world and that is exactly how Atom felt almost all the time since he married the girl of his dreams.

Atom wore a short sleeved Red T-shirt that was long enough to almost cover his bottom. His pants were a perfect fit for him keeping his pants from falling without using a tight belt. They stretched down to passed his ankles however but still kept a good view of his shoes. The running shoes that he always wore even though he doesn't run very much. He wore a necklace that was silver and shined even int he darkest of areas. Hanging from it was the two letters 'A' and 'L'. He had originally bought it because it was his wife's initials but later realized it was both of their initials which made it all the more better for him. He knew it was corny but he did what he could to keep her feeling his attraction and love to her all the time.

He held his wife, Axel Lawlett, close with his arm around her waste. He was tall but not much taller than she was which he loved so he wouldn't have to kill his back just to bend over and kiss her. A smile was always spread across his face whenever he was around her. She was the light in his night sky to put it poetically. Along with their pet wolf and best friend, Shadow, of course. Shadow ran around playfully without leaving the sight of his owners. He pranced, he sprinted, he pounced, he did everything that he could to have fun. This was kind of his natural habitat, being born here and all. Though it seemed that Shadow was too young to remember anything sad about this place since he was only a pup but nonetheless, it seemed that he was enjoying this beautiful day just as much as Atom was. He could only wonder if Axel was as happy as they were at the moment.

Just breathe. In…and out…In…and out.

You’re just stalling for time you know. The textbook isn’t going to read itself.

Roan scowled at the irritatingly rational voice in his inner monologue. It wasn’t wrong though. He had taken a trip into the woods ostensibly for some peace and quiet to review the next hundred pages or so of his cellular biology textbook. The library was his usual go to place for serious prep work. Usually the students in the quiet section took their work seriously, and their motivation was a lovely concentration boost for his own work. Sadly it seems, even the best of Starlight Academy’s students weren’t immune to the unseasonal warmth of the day. He’d heard a few of the ‘in the know’ students whispering about weather spells and climate charms but it seems that’s the exciting go to for any out of the ordinary event on Manta Carlos. Sun in January? Spells. Can’t find your keys? Gremlins. Alarm clock didn’t go off, why of course you set it, clearly the work of a resentful sandman.

Regardless, with everyone so focused on the tantalisingly beautiful day outside, it was an up-current swim trying to focus on his own work. There was also the fact that a lot of the material seemed familiar anyway. Perhaps he had studied cellular biology before? He’d performed well enough on the entrance exams, lacking in finer detail here and there but none of the concepts were unfamiliar. Plus, the material was coming back easily enough. Surprisingly it rarely bothered Roan that he had virtually no memories of his past. His last memory being the attack with the red…No.

Happy thoughts, moron…err…You awesome guy, you. Think happy thoughts, like ice-cream, daffodils, alternative RNA splicing increasing the number of…Oh God I’m delirious.

The truth was even Roan, by himself was seemingly not immune from the charms of the day. It’d been a nice walk up to the woods. And along the trail there was a wonderful bluff with benches and picnic tables offering a stunning view of the Pacific and Manta Carlos skyline. It just wasn’t a day that lent itself to studies, evidently. Despite this, few people had apparently ventured into the woods, although the beach looked fairly packed from this vantage point. Scowling at his textbook, Roan marked the page and closed it with a satisfying thump.

Taking a moment to just take the sights and smells in, Roan felt his mind quiet. Truthfully it was nice here, and he didn’t regret coming to Starlight at all. It had just been difficult making friends halfway through the academic year. Plus Roan wasn’t entirely sure he wanted frien…well, he did…but it’s a little awkward at best. The saying about people hating flaws in others which they most hate about themselves is definitely true. People just don’t want to see themselves that clearly.

Seemingly drawn by thoughts of other people, Roan felt a twinge in his mind as he felt somebody spot him. Turning around he saw a young man, slightly larger than himself and a woman, seemingly both around his age emerge from the tree line onto the bluff. The first feeling that hit Roan was happiness. Understatement. Quiet joy just burning off the man directed at his companion.

Looking at her Roan could appreciate the sentiment. She was easily the most stunning woman he had ever seen. Dark, copper hair in a ponytail and the cutest little spread of freckles across her nose. Looking closer she…she...

With a flash of confusion Roan felt the rosy mist of infatuation lift as his attention left the man and properly looked at the woman. Sure she was pretty, but he didn’t know anything about her and certainly wasn’t attracted to her. If anything he was vaguely irritated with her. It’s actually kind of rude to just burst in on someone when the clearly want to be alone. The only person who should be here is the attractive Hispanic looking fellow…

With slightly widened eyes, Roan tried to mentally focus on a midpoint somewhere between the two. Trying to balance the very expressive happy feelings the man had with the slight disdain for others the woman seems to bear. A mix of the two is a normal balance for interactions, right?

Why is it so messy being alone with a couple? If they aren’t loved up they’re fighting and it makes everything awkward for me…Maybe I should go?

As soon as he thought about leaving he realised he had just been silently staring back. Making prolonged eye contact kind of necessitates a greeting at such close range doesn’t it?

….

Set default friendly…everybody likes friendly.

“Morning!”

Smiling as she walked in-sync with her husband, it was nice to get out of their house once and a while and go explore. Sure, they went outside all the time to walk their wolf Shadow, but that was usually closer to their house. Choosing to go out further into the forest, she didn't have any idea as to why they hadn't thought of doing such a thing sooner. It was a beautiful day, which made Axel's mood a bit better.Waiting Shadow as he pranced around playfully, she sometimes forgot that he was still a wolf, ad not a regular dog. She was happy for that though, considering she wouldn't have wanted any other animal. Every time she looked at him though, she always wondered as to how and why he looked so different. Red eyes and lack fur wasn't a common look for any animal that she knew of. That just made him all the more unique from other animals, right?

Watching as he ventured off without them, she wondered what had caught his attention. Looking up at Atom , she gave him a concerned face as she thought of Shadow as her children, as their child and at some points she really didn't want anything to happen to him, though she knew that he was more than capable to protect himself. "Should we, you know, follow him?" Looking back in the direction Shadow had ventured off into, she blinked quickly at the sight of something, or someone. Moving a bit closer to Atom, she looked up at him. "Do you see that?" She whispered as she tarted to move closer to the figure. Was it just a traveler, a student? Or was it some type of beast or hybrid that lived on the island.

Stepping closer without going to far away from Atom, she blinked at him as she stared at them both. Was that all he was going to do? Stare awkwardly at them, going back and forth between her and Atom? She sure hoped not. Glaring at him, she opened her mouth to talk before getting interrupted by the man. She didn't say anything, looking up at Atom slightly to say something for her, as she didn't want to waste her breath on someone considering most people disliked her by the first sentence she said to them. Seeing Shadow a bit behind the man, she was tempted to call him back to them, but at the same time it wasn't necessary.

Neither of the couple had responded to Roan’s ‘Morning’, maybe they were shy? The girl at one point had opened her mouth to say something but was now just glaring at him, and sending *significant looks* at her…boyfriend? At any rate, Roan was certainly picking up a disgruntled vibe from her.

”Yay, another bestie.” came the sullen voice inside Roan’s head.

Roan felt his smile start to falter, but then it’d a bit too much like a western standoff if they were just looking at each other with grim faces. Idly part of him chortled inside at the idea of them in cowboy gear while black bands zoomed in on their eyes for dramatic effect. Plus the cowboy/western music. Everyone knows it.

Forcing his smile back onto his face and fixing it there, Roan noticed the girl glance over her shoulder. Checking the view? Roan had just been looking in that direction and there had been nobody there. Plus if anyone had climbed up or sneaked past, Roan would feel himself starting to reflect them. No. No there definitely wasn’t anyone behind him…So why was the hair on his neck starting to rise?

“Uh…is everything OK?”

Atom kept a good expression on his face as his wife held his hand firmly. They walked through the woods indefinitely feeling well enough to enjoy such a beautiful day. Shadow seemed to be enjoying himself as well given that he was yelping and galloping all over the woods. It was cute in a way. Atom looked to his wife periodically though because he just loved seeing her face. To most it may seem creepy but it was his wife, shouldn't he have permission to look at what he loves the most in the world? With either way, the sun was still being gracefully shaded by the trees above and only little spouts of sunshine came through. Each washing its own section of the forest. Giving even the most dreary of plants a better and more shiny appearance.

Soon enough, after a while, Shadow had wondered off a little further from the couples view. Though this did bother Atom a bit, he kept the optimistic view of it and expelled any bad thoughts from his mind. He was fairly confident in his pet's ability to protect itself, so he let it slide for once. Axel on the other hand was quite worried about Shadow. She seemed a little less confident or at least just wanted verification that he would be alright. Atom smiled as he looked her in the eye, and spoke. "Don't worried hun, it will be fine. Shadow can handle himself and if its too significant for him, I'm sure we'll here him. Don't stress yourself on such a beautiful day." He said in an attempt to reassure her of the wolf's abilities.

Upon walking further and further into the woods, the two came up on a different sight that wasn't too far fetched. A man seemed to be doing the quiet side of things on such a day and made an effort to relax in the woods. Atom wouldn't blame him though since he would probably do the same thing given the chance and right amount of time for said relaxation. Approaching the man, Axel notices him as well and points him out to Atom. "Yea I see him." Atom replied to her. She moved closer to him though which may not have been the smartest thing on her part but it should be fine, maybe he was friendly.

The man seemed to blankly stare back at them as they moved closer and closer to him slowly. Atom tried to act as nonchalant about the awkward meeting as possible but it was hard to do when Axel was making such a spectacle of the man's existence and presence in the woods with them. It wasn't that weird was it? Axel was about to say something apparently but was cut off by the nice and much awaited greeting of the stranger. He looked to be dressed up but his appearance was slightly hazy to Atom. He would have to get closer to fully recognize his physical attributes. Atom sat silent for moments as he tried to concentrate on what the man looked like but was unsuccessful, he even must have seemed a little weird in doing so. It should be fine though, everyone does small things that seem weird every once in a while anyways, right?

Axel looked to Atom so that he would say something to the man because it was obvious that she didn't want to anymore now hat she was cut off already once. She wasn't the most social person in the world so there should be no problem in this. After a bit, the stranger spoke to the couple again. He seemed a bit, suspicious to say the least, probably from the two and their silence towards him. "I apologize for my rudeness. Haha... Atom started with a slight chuckle. He went forwards slightly to slowly and casually grab Axel's hand and pull her a bit behind him just in case anything weird went down. After doing such, he continued. "I was caught of guard by both my lack of the ability to really see you and my wife's reaction as well. You'll have to excuse her, she prefers to stay on the less social side of things for most first meetings. I must need glasses as well." Atom stated. He had to say something to break the tension. he said this all with a smile on his face that would welcome even the most grumpy of visitors. Shadow on the other hand has returned to the general sight of Atom but was behind the stranger. Should he call him back or...? Maybe its better if Axel handled that part.
