Wandering a bit aimlessly through Manta Carlos's downtown shopping district, Rosalyn Blake had thrown out quite a few resumes. She wasn't really choosy, any job would do, whether it be a shop assistant, waitress, stock person, or receptionist. She had figured that it would be a good idea to get a part-time job while the family decided what they were going to do. This way she could contribute to the family finances without touching the money her husband, Harland Blake, had left her when he passed away last summer.

Harland's death had been devastating for Rosalyn and it had only been in the last month or so that she had started thinking of a future and not feeling guilty about moving on. She knew that Harland would have wanted her to, but that did not make moving forward any easier.

Ordering herself an iced mocha latte at a tiny coffee stand, Rosalyn made her way into a local grocery store to pick up a few things so she could make dinner for everyone tonight.

Seyyal wasn't exactly an avid shopper. Back home she might wander through a bazaar on occasion but mostly what silver she'd earned had gone to supplies or whatever equipment the Lionesses needed. Not to fashion or luxuries, aside from some occasional well-deserved nights at a tavern of course.

But she had a stipend as a student here on this island. And a fairly limited wardrobe. Wearing armor all the time just wasnt cutting qandit. So she found herself doing a bit of 'window shopping' as they called it here. So looking at things on display but not actually trying anything on.

Finally she smelled food, and more importantly that bitter drink called coffee, so she wandered in that direction to distract herself from her indecision. Only to spot someone she recognized. The same person who had given her the earrings that were safely tucked away in a pouch at the moment. "Rosalyn, hi! I didnt expect to see someone I knew here" she called out as she stepped closer through the crowd. The armor making it a little easier to convince people to move out of her way.

Rosalyn heard someone call out her name along with the immediate sound of metal lightly clanging as it moved closer to her.

"Seyyal?" Rosalyn said as she turned around, clearly surprised to see her Secret Santa coming towards her through the crowd.

"Oh my goodness! It is you! I thought I heard the sound of armor," she remarked, a smile now on her face. "How are you doing? Did you have a good Christmas? Are you busy right now?" Rosalyn asked, peppering the younger woman with a bunch of questions.

Seyyal wrinkled her nose in fake disgust. "Hey, I'll have you know my armor is relatively quiet- compared to something all metal. But I've been good. We're not super used to the holidays here but at least the Secret Santa thing was fun."

She smiled as she casually slipped between two people who weren't paying attention and then deliberately stretched her arms juuust enough to create a sort of bubble of empty space around the two of them. She was no stranger to crowds even if technically this market was a far cry from what she'd been to in the past.

"I'm not really busy. Ok, really I was supposed to be looking for something else to wear. But I smelled food and coffee so..." she shrugged.

Rosalyn grinned at Seyyal's joke and stepped forward a little so that she could create more easily the desired space around them.

"Delicious smelling food is always a distraction," Roslyn agreed as she showed her her cup of coffee which Rosalyn had to admit was one of her biggest vices.

"Clothes shopping? That sounds like my kind of fun actually. Do you need any help with that?" Rosalyn asked keenly as she looked at Seyyal questioningly, adding with a grin.

"I promise I won't put you in frilly dresses with ribbons and bow... unless, of course, that's your thing," she teased, having a hard time seeing the young knight like girl dressed in overly princessy type garb.

Seyyal shook her head goodnaturely. "I don't know how anyone manages to have fun with that. I have no idea where to even start. I have what I need for school and sparring... and a friend helped me get some workout clothes but I've no idea what to wear the rest of the time."

She laughed and fake-punched Rosalyn on the shoulder when she suggested she should be decked out like a princess or something. Then she realized that it might not have been a smart move given her current attire. Oh well. "I mean... I'm not horribly opposed to wearing a dress. But I'm pretty sure what you described would be far too much. I'm supposed to be rescuing a princess, not pretending to be one myself."

"Well, for the intrepid princess rescuing rescuer who needs to look good but be able to also scale fortress walls with ease..." Rosalyn teased. "The best and probably the easiest solution to your problem is really just jeans and t-shirts."

"You can get yourself a pair or two of good quality black or dark blue jeans and some nice t-shirts or hoodies. Then, if you need to, you can always dress the jeans up with a nice blouse, top or sweater," she explained as she sort of gestured to what she, herself, was wearing - a pair of dark grey jeans with ankle boots, a sweater, and a flannel lined leather jacket.

Seyyal laughed and shook her head. "I look plenty good kicking in doors and climbing castle walls like this. But things are more casual here. And it's actually ok to not look like im about to wrestle a sand worm or duel a goblin king all the time here."

She did pause to look at what Rosalyn was wearing though. And the attire of most of the people milling about nearby. "Ok, I guess you have a point. I guess i'll hunt for some of these jeans. It feels like everything here has a million differen types though. Where i'm from I could count the styles I could afford on one hand in most places I visited. And i'm better at function over form. Do you think maybe... do you have some spare time to help me out a little?"

Despite how she looked right now, Rosalyn understood Seyyal. She had been very much comfort over form type child, and little Rosalyn could often be found running around barefoot and, sometimes, without a jacket much to her parents' dismay. All because she was more comfortable without them.

"But of course, I'd be delighted to help out," she told Seyyal, low-key excited about the prospect of putting her new friend in something that didn't look like she was about to ride off to war or fight off fairytale dragons.

"I love shopping, and to be honest, it gives me something more interesting to do than decide between a pasta dish or rice for dinner," she admitted.

Seyyal smiled, genuinely relieved to have some backup and expertise in the battle against shopping. She knew all too well how useful it was to work with someone who had far greater skills in other areas than herself. Even if it literally was just a shopping trip.

"Point me in the right direction and stick close- pretty sure these shoulder-guards can clear a path for the both of us even without my swords drawn," she laughed and began escorting Rosalyn out of the shop they had been in. "I'm no cook at all- aside from probably being the go to for roasting meats out of the Lionesses I guess. But anyways, back home they had something that would translate to something like 'spicy lamp pockets'. Spiced lamb meat with vegetables in a thick broth served in a folded over pocket of crisped dough." She recalled as they walked and then realized how poor a choice talking about food was when hungry and leaving a grocery store. Damn. Clothes first, then food. Otherwise things would be a real mess- that was the strategist inside her speaking up. Bloody pragmatist that she was.
