At the feeling of returned, warm pressure on his hand, Jacob let out a shallow breath he did not know he had been holding. It was a quiet, relieved sigh that quickly turned into a shy little giggle. Why had he been so worried? It was not a question of arrogance. But more a question of, how much a relationship had he really been hoping for from Lenn. The attraction between them was obvious and it was really a matter how much existed, beyond the physical. It was a good thing first dates had been invented. Now Jacob had a firmer grasp of where they seemed to be going.

He caught the tail end of a deep breath from Lenn, which surprised him. Perhaps she was as invested in their chances as he was. That was a good sign. He almost dripped on himself as he sipped his coffee with a smile.

They must have looked adorable at that little cafe.

"Funny story actually...

When I was first hired for the Academy, I wasn't special. Or at least I didn't think I was. I was just some guy who grew up on a farm and became a teacher. Nothin' special.

Then I started gettin' on the classes where they teach the kids to control their powers, just for fun and exercise. I try some moves out of fun, to see what the kids were doing, and then I'm suddenly making shockwaves out of air!"

He was so caught up in his story, Jacob failed to think about how Lenn might feel about learning of his powers. Especially since his powers were so specific in one particular direction.

"I'm shocked and so is everyone else. And you know what? Turns out my dad's been holding out about my heritage. Apparently I'm the latest in a long line of... super swordsmen or something! I even got a sword! A sword! Like a samurai!

Kinda nuts, huh?"

It was strange, but great at the same time. All she wanted to do was sit and listen to him and she definitely did when he told his story about how he discovered his powers. Shockwaves? Samurai? That made him even more interesting than before! She couldn’t help but beam at the idea that Jacob was some super sword-wielding samurai. Oh yeah, she could picture him in some kind of samurai outfit, tucking his arm into the robes like a cool sling while having the katana casually over his shoulder…Oh! And he made those earthy tones look good, too.

Oh boy, her imagination was running and she found herself chuckling more at herself than the idea that him having such a power was ‘nuts’. ”Thas’ a pretty cool!” She commented. He looked so cute when he got really into his stories. He acted as if he discovered he was secretly some super-hero or something. Huh, well that meant she would be the catwoman to his batman. Interesting thought…But it dawned on her just how comfortable he was blurting out something so personal. That was definitely a plus!

Yeah, they must have looked really cute to the waitress that stopped by. Lenn asked for a refill and even a crepe to go along with it before she left the table. Lenn grinned and leaned forward, ”You’ve got to show me sometime! Huh! Not only are you tall, dark n’ handsum, you got some nifty tricks you can do too! Yer one hell’uva catch, luv,” Oooh~! She was already moving onto a pet name just for him!

Oh good god, she couldn’t help but giggle now. Just as the waitress came around, the girl stumbled by their table. The slim bottle of liquid sugar upon her tray teetered and fell. The giggles stopped and her free hand shot out fast to intercept the bottle. Her hand easily snuck beneath the bottle and she caught the bottom with her nimble reaction. It all happened in a matter of seconds, but for Lenn, it was as if everything played off slow pace. The waitress gasped and complimented how amazing that catch was before taking the bottle back and presenting the crepe instead.

It would have been a normal thing to do if Jacob wasn’t sitting there watching the whole damn thing. Ah crap… She had to make some excuse for that little stunt. ”Habit,” she shrugged innocently and caressed his hand. ”Mum used to drop things all the time.”

"Yeah, it's pretty cool. I'm not the fightin' type, but just the fact that I can naturally wield a sword like I do? It's just cool."

There had been only one instance of him using his sword for combat, or anything resembling a deadly confrontation. While he was in the Zone the entire time, focused completely on the task at hand, Jacob would readily admit to not liking the idea of using his sword to maim or kill. It was just not his nature to do that. Now when it came to using his sword as a martial art? He was fine with that. It was almost like meditation.

The hand touch had seemingly opened the flood gates on Lenn's affections. The two of them were gossiping away like a couple of young kids and she was already complimenting and flattering him with pet names, or A pet name. Whatever. It was cute and it made smirk at her.

"Oh, I got plenty of tricks to show you~"

The comment might have made someone in the cafe groan with its corniness, but Jacob could not have cared less. More importantly, Lenn had shown some astounding speed when the waitress stumbled by accident.

"Nice catch. That's almost as fast as I move when I'm using my sword."

The whole incident didn't faze Jacob one bit.

"Y'know, maybe after this I could show you. My sword is still back in my office at the Academy."

Man, this was it. He was going to start asking her why she was here and how could she have moved that fast for the sugar bottle. She should have just let it drop, but she couldn't help it! Great, then she was going to have to figure out what other lies to make up on the spot...

...and he just stared at her undisturbed.

It was as if it didn't even occur to him. It didn't even phase him. Well...that was good! Heh, really good. If there really was a groan off in the distance from Jacob's flirty little comment, it was missed entirely because he complimented her reaction. There was a sheepish mutter of 'thanks' before he mentioned wanting to show his 'talent'. That peaked her curiosity. She really did wonder about his skills with the sword and how exactly this shockwave business came to be. How did he work? She wanted to find out. Why the hell not? Hopefully he didn't notice how eager she was to see him in action. "Fwah, oy'd love to see!" she quipped and took a bite of her crepe. Wow, even that was divine. "Heh, sorreh. Oy' realleh like action things n' oy' find that really cool yer into martial arts. Gets me excited!" She paused halfway into the small crepe. Well, she didn't want to look greedy for starters and..She just always wanted to do this with someone for some reason. She cut a piece of the delicate crepe and held it out for him to accept the little bite. "Th' faster oy' finish this, the faster we can get to you showin' me some action!" That...could have meant a lot of things, but she didn't care. He knew what she meant!

"Then I think you're going to enjoy seeing my sword in action."

It was a pleasant surprise to find out that Lenn was into "action things", and that she considered his swordsmanship a boon. Now his ability to use a sword, on the surface, was a mostly benign ability to most people. Compared to kids manipulating light and shape shifters, being able to use a sword was downright banal. However, most people found it a little strange still. For one, it was an extremely anachronistic ability in an age of computers and drone warfare. For two, Jacob always sounded a little too enthusiastic about it. Lenn getting giddy about the prospect of seeing him use his sword really got him pumped.

He was already picturing what he could show her. The shockwaves he could make easily enough, but his cutting ability was another matter. If he kept cutting trees, that school might start charging him for them. His thoughts were cut shot, however, with the cutest thing Lenn had done since they had met.

"Don't mind if I do~"

It was so cute the way she held the crepe piece out for him, and he happily accepted it. He had not done something like that since... Actually he could not recall being on the receiving end of that gesture ever.

"Yeah. I'm gettin' a little giddy over here. And don't worry about the bill, I got it this time."

It was kind of funny how innocent those statements were. Really! Perhaps to others, it could have been taken in another ‘way’. She even snorted when he mentioned how confident he was with his ‘sword action’.

Back to the whole crepe thing, she wasn’t sure if he was going to accept it. Now when she thought about it, she had no idea what he liked when it came to food. For all she knew, he didn’t like the things she liked such as sweets or cakes. Most men she encountered didn’t like such ‘girly things’. For sure he looked like a ‘beer n’steaks’ kind of guy but—Oh! He accepted it! She gently pushed the treat into his mouth with a hint of a smile, pleased that he accepted it. Well that scratched off an entry from her bucket list.

“Alroigh’ fair enuff~” She shared the rest of her crepe and finished off her coffee. That was nice of him. Then again, she did pay for their drinks that night so he was probably returning the favor. After leaving the café, the whole hand holding thing felt a little more natural this time and she was the one to initiate that! The walk back to the academy was just as pleasant as the walk it took to leaving it. It almost seemed too perfect in a sense; not a cloud in the sky, sunny as hell, but there was a sweet breeze to counter the heat. Not to mention she was walking hand-in-hand with someone she was really starting to fancy.

Bloody hell, and his office was nice too! That should have been expected of course considering how lovely his apartment was…Even if she didn’t come over just to oogle over the furniture. Really though, where was he planning on showing her his skills? Common sense told her that he couldn’t just do it out on the street. Oh right! He did mention he helped kids control their powers so there had to be some kind of facility somewhere. ”Pretteh noice office fer a math teacha’…Oy’dunno. Expected it to look..nerdy or something.”

The two of them were like teens on a first date. From the around the 1950s. They were so sweet and cute, and they were at a quaint little cafe, and she was sharing her crepe by actually feeding him. The only thing that could have been missing from their sweet scene was a jukebox. Maybe some candles and champagne. And they were alone. And it was a clear evening, and she was wearing a little black dress~ Okay, Jacob's mind was wandering.

He had other things to keep his mind on during the walk back to his office. Most notably, Lenn herself and her presence. Jacob really liked how natural the hand holding had quickly become when they left. It was instant and there was no hesitation. Their hands just gravitated to each other, and they to each other's sides. He could most definitely get used to it.

"Oh, I'm only nerdy when I'm in the classroom teaching the stuff. Otherwise, as you can see, I'm a pretty cool guy."

The office was nice, but what was nicer was his sword. It was leaning behind his desk and he made a beeline right for it when they entered.

"Check it: my sword. I haven't gotten around to naming it."

The sword was a katana in a dark grey sheathe. Like his taste in decor, it was minimalist. The sheathe was elegantly curved to fit the blade, with a squared-off bottom. The most notable thing about the sheathe and sword was where the guard met the sheathe. There was a mechanism of sorts that looked like a lock or a clamp. When Jacob pressed a small switch on it, the mechanism unclasped like locks on the sword, and Jacob was able to pull the blade out a little, revealing the shining silver metal.

"Cool, huh? I specifically asked for the lock and that the sheathe be hardened, so I can use it as a weapon too."

His voice was lower as he stood close to Lenn and showed his blade, as if it was a secret he was telling her.

She parked herself on the edge of his desk when he went for his sword. Speaking of swords, he was standing pretty close with it and ‘unlocked’ the sheath. She could hear the blade practically sing. Subtle and beautiful—very well taken care of and loved. The heat waves upon it told her that it was custom made which was ten times more durable than the cheap knock-offs at some local weapon stores. Even the locks were carefully made. Lavender hues roamed along the length of the weapon, taking in every detail. She could tell that the sheath was reinforced which was a smart move on Jacob’s part. Not even a speck of dust was found.

”It’s beautiful~” She complimented, a look of fascination upon her face as if he had presented her a piece of jewelry. Well while some normal girls prized jewelry, shoes, and purses, Lenn prized weapons and other things that made her jobs run easier. It was perfect and she dared not touch it. The idea that Jacob knew some form of combat made her like him even more! She did love that in a man. Like a kid ready to test out something really cool, she looked up to him with excitement. My, he was standing pretty close again and it took a while for her to finally say something. Those green eyes were lovely. S-So where to now, luv?”

Jacob had no idea that he would come to prize his sword as much as he did. Learning about his abilities came before he actually acquired it. So while it seemed like a natural progression to have one, as was apparently the tradition of his heritage, he just could not think of any real reason why he of all people should have one. He might have had special abilities and worked at a special academy, but he was still JUST a math teacher.

Then he actually got it, held it, and practiced with it. The sword felt at home in his hands, like it was always meant to be there. His muscles worked without thinking when he held it, with only the need to truly learn what his upper limits were. When he held the blade at the ready, he fell into a Zone that felt at peace. He need not think about his movements, and he could feel his concentration increase several fold. It was like time slowing down for him.

"Yeah. It's gorgeous...

He had to say it.

"Like you~"

Jacob was a little torn. He was so close to Lenn, and he had not entirely meant to put her between the desk and himself. He had just been so excited to show off his cool sword. It reminded him of his closeness in the elevator that night. Peeking over his shoulder, he noted that he had closed his door.

Softly, he closed the blade and the lock quietly reset.

"I really wanted to show you what I could do with my blade. Really."

He lowered the sword and leaned it against the desk again, freeing his hands to find Lenn's hips.

"But I think I found something else to show you while we were here..."

She felt like a silly girl right now. Cheeks were rosy and she couldn’t blame it on anything now. He was really close and closing in. His hands were upon her hips now and he was blocking every escape. The door was closed and he was practically pinning her to his desk. Things were heating up and this time there was no alcohol to encourage it—just the natural attraction the two had for each other. That was it and she admitted it. She was drawn to him and even if there was an escape? She didn’t want to. She could smell the faint chlorine from the pool and feel the heat from his body. This felt so right.

”Yeh?...” Her hand caressed his cheek. He felt so warm and—goodness she was leaning into him now, wanting that physical contact. It brought her back to the time in the elevator, how they teased each other like silly little teens in young love. They acted like the very love-stricken couples that she wanted to throttle. Now? Well, it wasn't so bad. This was fun and...He really made her feel wanted.

She kept her eyes squarely on his even when her lips were so close. ”An’ wot would that be?...Teacha’?” Yes, she went there and finally graced him with a kiss. There was that spark for her as lips met. It was almost too much! She pulled away…but dammit she kissed him again! N-No, she didn’t want to come off as being too eager! She pulled away once more, sighing with delight as a giddy smile crossed her features.
