The elderly woman tsked. "Kids these days," she moaned with great exaggeration, knowing full well that he could be millennia older than her. That was the trend, wasn't it? "Always assuming that us old 'uns would be able to follow the same norms as anybody else without trouble." She pointed her cane at him. "Just what are you anyways? Demon? Insect hybrid? Don't look at me like that. I'm old, I'm allowed to be rude."

"I do try to observant, see the unique things," this was turning into an interesting night, "for example, your eyes, two different colors, unique and beautiful, I don't see that often."

He'd chuckle, "you'll have to share them with me before the evenings over," he'd tap the side of his mask, "one of the traditions at masquerade balls is that masks come off at midnight, nor required of course, but it is fun finally seeing who's underneath there."

He'd offer her his hand again once the music started again, "we could get a drink before resuming our dance if you'd like, I'm enjoying our chat either way."

He took the women at her word, not expecting the sincere tone was one that she was putting on for the night didn't even cross his mind. "Well then thank you, maybe next year I will give it a try after all." He replied, though it would partly come down to how good tonight was for him to decide next year if it was worth him trying.

"And yeah it is. I missed the one last year, and before that I didn't even know this island existed." Steven told her. While it was more accurate to say he had no reason to know about Manta Carlos. His powers hadn't exactly manifested that far back. "i figured I'd give this year a shot, have a couple drink maybe a few dances." He added, not directly asking but the implication was more then clear enough. However it meant that she could just ignore it, and he would save face by pretending it was an offer in the first place.

Dark was really charming up a storm, and it made Huilu smile. It was refreshing, Huilu's status tended to scare men or women away and she rarely was the target of flirting, or flirted herself. Huilu didn't consider herself much of a flirter, but she could try, on this night only.
"I am indeed quite proud of my eyes, thank you for noticing. It's not hard to see, even with your mask on, that your features are quite attractive as well."
She wasn't sure if she was doing it right but Huilu loved learning.

"Oh, I was not aware of such tradition. Having an experienced companion is fortunate for me after all."
Huilu chuckled, and had a thoughtful look in her eyes.
"Yes, it does sound wonderful but somehow lonely, to break the enchantment at the moment when the magic is at its peak. Makes me feel like the fairy tale character Cinderella. Although I do not have plans of fleeing at midnight."

"Drink does sound nice, I'd be glad to have one."
Huilu took Dark's hand and let him lead the way to the refreshments table. On the way she looked around, somewhere at the side of the ballroom she saw a burst of ginger hair that reminded her of the Drakenhardts, and she spied Jackal as well. Seeing people familiar to her returned Huilu to reality slightly, but it didn't wipe the small smile she had on her face.

Swallowtail looked up at Lady Heavenly with a look of panic trying hard to break through. Her words helped calmed Swallowtail ever so slightly, but not enough. All they could bring themself to do was step a bit away from Lady Heavenly and try to stand tall. Still, they immediately searched for a safe place to go, and with a timid voice asked, "May go to the food area? I want to find kids and make friends."

Mrs. Winter Dancer searched for those familiar to her. Specifically, friends who did a less-than-stellar job at hiding their identity. The perfume many were wearing and the mingling smells made it difficult to use her nose to detect people, so she relied on her attention to detail. So far she was certain she saw Ava, but Mrs. Winter Dancer wanted to interact with people her own age.

After grabbing a bite (or many bites) to eat, a young man in a navy suit and a green mask looked just about her age stood out to her. A familiar air came off of him, especially that smile, but on this island, there was a good chance that was just because they were an elementalist. Nevertheless, it was enough for Mrs. Winter Dancer to approach him, mimicking his high society posture. She hoped to benefit off of the power of anonymity to give her the charisma she needed or her aura that made elementalists instantly like her. Those were the two things that kept her from attaching herself to Kaiju or panicking and going off to the bathroom for an hour before calming down.

"Sir, do you have the time for a dance. You look like someone I could get along with."

Blue was an elegant, charming woman, he was happy that he met her, "thank you, when the time comes I'll give you a look without my mask."

"The enchantment doesn't necessarily have to end there," Dark would say, "the pleasant interactions don't have to end here, losing masks does the air of mystery, but if you wish you can use this night as a stepping stone of sorts with the people you meet." He was enjoying this night, far more than he expected, "like perhaps I decide to ask the number of a certain blue haired beauty at the end of the evening."

He'd lead her to the drinks table, allowing them to help themselves to whatever refreshments they desired.

Lady Heavenly smiled down understandingly, "Go on, have fun." she said with a tiny nod of her head when Swallowtail asked if they could go find some other children probably play with which made her happy.

"I will be around here," she told them to reassured them, "just mingling if you need me, okay?" she told them, bending down to place a small kiss on their cheek as she let Swallowtail run off and do their thing.

Dark was very charming indeed, and smooth as well. Or perhaps this night coloured him to seem so in Huilu's eyes. No matter which it was, she smiled a bit. Huilu hadn't quite decided on her final opinion on the man. The anonymity was fun, but it was also dangerous.
"I wish you luck for when the time comes to ask said question."
Huilu answered and chuckled, keeping it vague whether she'd give her number or not. Mystery was still in the air, after all.

At the refreshment table Huilu took some punch for herself, and turned to look at the ballroom once again with a thoughtful look.
"Perhaps...it's good the enchantment ends at midnight. This event has its special air and magic because of the mystery, and when it breaks it allows you to hold the magic even that more precious."
Huilu said these words absently, and with a quiet, thoughtful voice. She looked at Dark and chuckled slightly.
"Excuse me, I thought outloud."

Ava spied Jackal, who was getting into a squabble with some old lady. Ava smirked a bit, considering going and crashing that small party, but nah. Besides, he plate was getting empty. Ava headed back to the food table, and picked this and that on her plate, mostly meat or something bit heavier. She looked around, her eyes saw some familiar looking faces that she recognized despite the masks. But Ava was mostly interested in food and spectating, so that was what she would do.

Into the ballroom entered a young man. He stood tall, and walked with a confidence that could only be gained from familiarity with the setting he just entered. His suit was tailored for his body perfectly, and it almost emphasised the lean physique he had in a good way. His hair, a lighter brown colour, was slicked back and appeared neat. His mask was a colour that matched his suit in a pleasant way, with a ribbon tied neatly that matched. Overall, he appeared to be well dressed and confident.

He made his way to the nearest table with a punch bowl. To anyone he passed, he would flash a charming smile. With the mask on, and having no defining features on clear view, it would be difficult to discover the identity of this gentleman. But if one were to look at his eyes, they would find them to be a striking warm gold colour.

There was an old lady he recognized, speaking to a man who was clearly inhuman. For a moment, the veiled man contemplated going over to the two before thinking better of it. She could clearly handle herself and to be honest, the idea of how she'd handle herself in this situation made him smirk a bit. Again, the refreshments table was encircled with people to the extent that he wondered how exactly anybody managed to snag anything.

He turned away from the two and began a slow circle of the room, weaving between people for those blessed, sacred empty patches in the crowd. Every once in a while, an elaborate costume would catch his eye and he would stop to admire it.
