You step into the Ballroom.

It's a sight out of a fairy tale book. The room is decorated with an elegant harvest theme. A palette of autumn colors, violets, and blacks are used in curtains, carpets, table clothes, and other decorations. There are pumpkin gourds elegantly carved on the tables, vines and cobwebs wind around and between the marble columns. The flowers used, in vases and wall decor, are dried and wilted. The overall look is nothing less than haunting.

And the people! Why, it's almost as if they're part of the decorations. Ladies in extravagant, puffy ball gowns dancing with gentlemen in sharp suits to waltzes, all of them wearing colorful masks, concealing their identity. The crowd is nothing but inviting.
Will you join them?

Sasha had come to this event to introduce herself to the earth dwelling students she was joining. The last time she had come here it had ended unfortunately, however this time should be different. This was a school hosted event.
“Masquerade interesting. Of Italian renaissance origin.” She commented quietly to herself, looking around at the other’s around. She hadn’t brought a mask herself, as it may impede her objective of introducing herself. Her outfit consisted of a black dress with white frills, ending around knee height. Despite the attire, she was still wearing her camo scarf and headband. She was standing in a corner almost motionless, her only movements being occasional glances at the other’s in the room.

The previous year at Manta Carlos he had missed the sort of event like this, but this year he had been ready for it. Dressed in striking red suit but without the hat that had come with it, he wore bright red rose motif mask to hide his face. his exceptionally long hair not toed back into a ponytail as normal, but a high ornate bun, held in place by pair of hair sticks that matched the mask. It gave him the apperance of ambigious nature. Either an slightly effeminate man, or a women trying hard to avoid the cliche of being pinned down in a dress. These events in part were about people not knowing who you were, and it let him do his hair in ways that he would never normally try to wear but had wanted to try.

When he arrived his first destination was straight for where the tables had food and drink, and claim a glass of punch for himself that he quickly adulterated with a dash of whiskey from a hip flask. Prefering to drink his own supply but planning to use the punch to make it last the full night he was able to. Plus he needed to be a little tipsy, he was the best with crowds but he wanted to try and impress tonight if he could.

Lizzie smiled. She was new to the whole magic island thing, but if more things were like this, she could get used. Her dress was perfect, and her bright eyes were hidden behind her mask.

While she was ultimately here to enjoy herself, she was also planning to steal a few kisses. With the masks, people were bound to act a little more freely.

Wanding around, drinking a cup of punch she procured after the girl in red left, Lizzie whistled, looking for the first person to work her magic on.

He'd enter the ball, wearing a finely made made dark black suit and a matching mask. Tall at six foot with a strong athletic build, he was quite the figure. He'd move through among the people, quickly helping himself to a drink as he watched people go about the ball.

In truth he wasn't completely sure why he'd come, perhaps he needed a distraction from recent events, maybe he wanted forget things, even if just for an evening. He'd again start to move about the crowd, perhaps seeking a companion to join him during the ball, perhaps just see who'd come to the popular event.

She walked into the ballroom and was taken aback by the extravagance of it all. Despite being on the island for a while, she had never been to an event like this. The image she put across was that she hated this sort of thing, hated people, but really, that wasn't entirely true. Ever since the incident, she had worn a mask. Not the sort she wore to conceal her identity at that moment but a mask of a different sort. It was easier to hide behind bitterness and strength rather than allowing herself to trust people, only to be hurt again. However, it was incredibly lonely. There was no one that she really got along with and something deep down longed to have a connection with someone, though she wouldn't admit it. Tonight she wasn't afraid to show her emotions since nobody knew who she was.

A slimming ornate dress of purple fabric complemented her hair that was styled half up and half down. Normally, there wasn't much effort put into her appearance but tonight was different. Tonight, she was someone else. This person wore a violet mask with silver detailing. After taking in her surroundings, she moved further into the fray. Not being one for dancing, she spotted the food and drinks off to the side, deciding to nibble at something as she watched the people sway in the middle.

Wearing a dress was a first for Ava. Seriously, not once in her life had she worn a dress, since there had never been a reason to. A skirt, yes, but not a dress. Well, at least this dress didn't look half bad for something Ava had just grabbed quick and without thinking from the discount shelf just to get out of the dress shop. Her orange dress was simple, but had the colours of fire and that was the main reason Ava had chosen it. It matched her hair, that was free for once and flowed down to Ava's shoulders, and the mask she had picked.

Ava took in the ballroom, damn they had really gone all out. The place screamed Samhain if anything Ava knew about the holiday was true.
But it didn't take long for Ava to direct her attention to the thing she actually cared about, which was the food. Ava followed her nose across the ballroom, looking like a walking flame, to the table with all sorts of foods. She grinned a bit and grabbed a plate, starting to gather some rations for herself. This was going to be a long night.

These kinds of events were something Huilu was completely new to, but somehow she had always missed despite never experiencing them. It appealed to her taste for adventure and the anonymity was exhilarating. Although Huilu's family would have recognized her from the bright egyptian blue hair Huilu had curled and put up in a up-do that had blue curls spilling down in strands. Huilu's dress was flowing down her streamlined and curvy body quite nicely, and the mask Huilu was holding up herself for now, though it was possible to attach it to her hair with a clip. She was quite happy with her outfit, she had spent a day deciding on a dress, and the golden lipstick and powder on her cheeks complimented the mask.

Huilu didn't have a specific goal in this ball. If someone asked her to dance she would accept, and if she felt like it she could even ask someone to dance. But for now Huilu awed at the decorations and people in the room, so much hoping she could've brought her sketchbook with her. Huilu had to make do with watching and trying to remember, as she made her way around the ballroom, slight shiver around her as her cold aura created a small sphere of chillyness around her.

He hadn't been on Manta Carlos for long and everything was still so new to him. There was a lot that he needed to learn and it took a lot to not be overwhelmed by it all. Either way, he tried to throw himself headfirst into the wonder of the place and the masquerade ball was one of those things. Embracing the quirkiness and supernatural nature of the island was something that he had done from the moment he arrived, despite not knowing magic or anything of the sort truly existed beforehand.

Having only the allowance that the school provided, he rented a navy suit with a silver tie that didn't quite fit in places, a mask covering the majority of his face. For once, he had tidied up his hair so that there weren't loose strands everywhere but was neatly combed to the side. He was fairly skinny so it was hard to find a size that fit him without adjustments being made. This was his first social gathering, other than the children's parties he attended years ago, and he wasn't too sure what to expect. He was more of an observer, but the island was a chance for a fresh start; to forget about everything before and be someone else. Being new, it was pointless for him that everyone's identity was a secret as he knew very few people. Either way, the idea was exciting. Standing amongst the outskirts of the crowd, he subtly danced on his own. For now, he would take it slow. Talking and getting to know people would come later of its own accord, he presumed.

Sipping his drink slowly standing by the tables of food and drinks, it wasn't that surprising that people came and went. Passing him by to get drinks of their own, or something to eat. Oddly though, he was actaully struggling to bring himself to strike up conversations. While some might have found doing so when their identities were hidden, all that his own mind could focus on was the fact he didn't know who was under the mask of the others. Feeling as if he would somehow make an embarrassment of himself even though his on nature was hidden.

But being a wall flower all night was not something he was going to allow him to do. The suit and mask had been an expense he couldn't afford that easily, and wasting that investment and the night was not on the cards. Looking around he noticed a women in an stylish purple dress and mask with silver hints to it, she had come to the table nearby him in order to eat. Taking a few strides, over towards her.

"That quite the colour you're wearing tonight." He said to her, trying to sound casual. "Purple are my favourite colour, it's a shame I don't think I could pull off wearing them like you." He revealed, and complimented the women all in one stroke. While his soft voice was also clearly a man's and shattered the ambiguous nature of his appearance tonight.

She turned as she heard a voice address her, taking her eyes off of the dances. Normally, she would pull a face at any hint of flirting and had to stop herself from doing so. Being impolite to the guy would be counterproductive. Instead, she let out a silent sigh as a small smile crept across her face. "Well, I'm sure you look nice in whatever you wear," she replied, trying to sound sincere.

She had never really had a relationship and it was not something that she ever thought about. Plus, flirting was not a skill that she had attained in the slightest. The guy seemed sweet enough and this little experiment of hers was to create conversation with others. Finishing off the snack that was in her hand, she turned to serve herself a drink. The art of conversation was something she also lacked so giving her hands something to do helped to ease into it. "Is this your first masquerade?" she asked. The thought of carrying on the charade and flirting back passed her mind momentarily but decided that it would just end badly.
