After leaving the ballroom, Sabriel had made his way back to his dormitory, sullen and silent. It was clear a piece of him had fractured tonight, but he had finally been given the strength to reach the solution he needed. Making his way into the bathroom, Sabriel opened his medicine cabinet and stared at the bottle with a look of defeat and acceptance, and finally popped the lid off.

So this is it.

He didn't feel the need to write a note, or to make any sort of explanation as to why he was doing this. It wasn't like anyone would care; Carta would move on and his aunt would get her life and independence back instead of constantly worrying about him. This would be good for everyone.

Filling a glass of water, Sabriel went to work swallowing each pill in the bottle, feeling nauseous and lightheaded as each slipped down his throat.

Soon enough, his lids began to feel heavy, and Sabriel collapsed to the floor, first to his knees before falling completely. Lids closing, Sabriel relinquished his hold on consciousness without a fight.

—-

There was light - bright, excruciatingly white and all around him. Sabriel squeezed his eyes shut tighter, making a soft groaning sound as his hands clenched around a soft material that seemed to be covering him. Where was he? He... he didn't remember anything... it was like everything had been wiped clean.

Slowly opening his eyes, Sabriel returned to the world, pale as ever, his eyes appearing weak and glazed over. Dark, gray circles blotched the area under his eyes, along with his knuckles, and he slowly turned his head on the pillow.

Oh... right.

So... it hadn't worked? Then who had found him and tried to save him?

He didn't even care...

Sighing, Sabriel closed his eyes again, pulling weakly at the blankets. He just wanted to go back to sleep.

Well, it wasn't the local Hospital in the town but he still snuck around and looked through people's records. He was sitting in a computer room reading through thr files. He had randomly found some kid that was passed out in his room so many hours before. The door was open, luckily enough. It was obviously a suicide case as he listened to the docters that told him what was in his system. Or well, it was an attempt at suicide.

He looked through files until he found the boy earlier and printed out his record for his own use. Well, Hotaru would use this. How long had it been? Without a name he had to search the database without permission until he found someone that matched him. Taking the paper, he flipped through the multiple pages before putting a paperclip on it and closing out the database and left the room with closing the door behind him. He was just interested in what the deal was with this kid.

Going back to the room he was in, this contained student records as well. This was the school's hospital wing. He opened the door and saw that the kid was awake now. Not wanting to stay awake he seemed to pull at the blanket. Closing the door to the room, Hotaru stepped into it. "Kid, don't go back to sleep now. I want to talk to you for a little bit." He said as he seemed to wander lostly into the room. He was looking for a chair and pulled one up to near the bed from another side of the room. Tennis balls on the bottom of the legs to keep it from scratching the floor. He put it around backwards and Hotaru sat in it with his arms on the back rest. "Well, if you don't mind too much." He continued as he glanced at the kid in the bed, with the thin white covers over him. He remembered what he fully looked like before he came into the room. A broken arm too? What caused that? If someone was going to kill themselves, breaking an arm didn't seem like something they'd do before hand. He had a bit of questions.

What was someone doing in his room? Sabriel could hear the door open and close, but he lacked the initiative to look and see who it was. Probably a nurse, or a doctor, or something... he didn't have any friends who would car to come see him. Carta wasn't going to come, Sabriel had already assured himself of that. If he did, it would likely only be to mock him. Sighing softly, Sabriel turned his head away from where he could hear the chair moving, not wanting to look at anyone. He just wanted to slip away from the world again.

Of course, whoever was visiting him wanted to talk, keeping him from the sleep he wanted so desperately. Rolling his head, Sabriel turned his gaze to look at this stranger, somewhat concerned when he saw it was a kid. Why would they care?

Sabriel didn't have the will to question.

"No, I don't mind," he said weakly, eyes closing for a few moments before opening halfway. "What do you want to talk about? Do you work here or something? Someone should have told you what I did, if you're my doctor or something..." He was too dizzy and tired to recognize that someone his age couldn't be a doctor.

Hotaru expected Sabriel to be not fully awake or have the strength to talk, but he would have the kid extert the effort. Just how to start out? Well, with whatever it was best to start with the beginning of a story, why not at the beginning of a conversation. "I know why you are in here, you overdosed on medication." Hotaru said as he thought about calling one of the two people in Sabriel's phones contact. He held the phone in one hand and glanced down at it every moment. There were only two numbers. His aunt was already told by the docter people, so what was left was to tell the other person in the phone. Find out who he is first.

"I was the one that brought you to the Hospital Wing, Sabriel was it?" He said looking at the cat eared boy. "So, how come you did that?" He asked sounding very serious and curious at the same time, like his voice was trying to gently pry answers out of the younger boy.

Overdosed... the word seemed so foreign. That was precisely what he had done, and there was no denying it. Why hadn't it worked? He'd passed out, and he vaguely remembered finishing the bottle and leaving it empty somewhere. Probably in the bathroom, although he simply couldn't remember. Being exhausted and having tried to end his life was probably why he couldn't recall anything.

"Yeah... Sabriel..." he mumbled into his pillow, eyes closing fully. Sleep was so close, so very close, but he had to keep talking. "How come...? Because it wouldn't make a difference if I lived or died... i suffer everyday, what few friends I have lie to my face and talk about me behind my back, I hallucinate, the voices..." He sighed. What was the point?

"Why did you save me? A question for a question... it's fair, isn't it?" he asked.

Hotaru showed no emotions on his face as Sabriel went on to answer the question, he glanced at the phone and then called the person that was saved in the phone. Carta was his name it had a little saying next to it left by Sabriel no doubt. "My bestie of the best of bests!!! <3" It read as the phone called him. He turned the receiving volume off but put it on speaker phone so that everything said in this room could be heard. It wasn't an hour anyone should be sleeping so that would be fine.

"You can ask me as many questions as you want, anyways. I saved you because there is no point in letting someone die, because I myself didn't want someone to die when I could've done something, stuff like that." He said as he went to respond fully to Sabriel's response.

"It would make a difference, there is no point dying but plenty in living. How do you suffer and how have your friends lied to you?" Hotaru went onto ask, he didn't look like the type to lie himself, just from how he sounded. So he heard voices? Well, he wasn't the best expert on that and there wasn't much he could do to help besides give him advice for his daily life, he didn't want to see this kid attempting anything again.

Hotaru's answer made plenty of sense. So he was a good person. "You wouldn't have saved me if you knew who I really was," he uttered. He didn't realize that Hotaru had his phone, or that he was calling Carta - he was too tired and too dense to really realize anything right now.

"It doesn't make a difference..." he reiterated. "The only people who care are my aunt and Carta..." He sighed. This wasn't something he wanted to get into, or he'd start crying over how his attempt at suicide had failed. Was it so bad to just want peace? If he was dead, he wouldn't have to go through life as the freak, as the one everyone picked on, and he wouldn't have to be asked so many questions. If he was dead ,there would be nothingness, or at least a pleasant afterlife - in life there was just too much he didn't want to deal with.

"And my brother... he finally convinced me that my aunt doesn't care... and he's told me time after time that Carta's only doing this to laugh in my face..." He breathed deeply. "He also said he'd get my mother to kill me if I didn't do it myself... I... I'm scared of her... she's tried to kill me before, I didn't want to have to fight her..." His voice took on a weak, shaking quality and his lower lip trembled. "She scares me more than anything else."

Hotaru listened carefully to Sabriel before nodded like he was coming up with something to say as well. This Carta person had picked up and heard pretty much everything Sabriel had said, but Hotaru wasn't done here. Not yet. "Your Brother, tell me about him. The one that had been talking to you recently and telling you all of this stuff. Was he also the one that broke your arm or was that someone else?" Hotaru said and waited on that for now, Sabriel's mother was something else. He didn't want to know about that, who ever it was he didn't care. If they threatened or endangered the life of someone else in this school he would personally rip their intestines our of their upper back.

For a few moments Sabriel was silent, unsure what to say. Was he supposed to tell the truth? Would he get hurt if he told the truth? Taking a deep breath, he began to speak again in a hushed tone, as if he was afraid of anyone else hearing. "Yes, he was the one who broke my arm..." he answered, almost ashamed. "It was when he was convincing me that I should kill myself, in the ballroom..."

He paused, wondering if he should go more in depth. "You... you see... my mom killed my brother, and my dad... well I mean I thought she killed my brother, but he somehow ended up here, and I was so happy he was alive! But... but then he was abusive... and he hurt me a lot... breaking my arm wasn't the first time he'd physically hurt me, and it wasn't the first time he'd told me to kill myself. He told me no one cared about me and he was constantly making life miserable for me... but... but no one else could see him, and I only told Carta because if anyone else knew I'd look like even more of a freak... but he told me Carta didn't care anyway... I just... I... I lost it. It was my birthday and, I don't know, I was upset..."

Groaning softly, Sabriel tried to push himself up in the bed - laying there was making it too tempting to sleep. "What else do you want to know?" he asked, his voice somewhat strained.

Hotaru laid the phone off to the table as he went through the papers that belonged to Sabriel as he spoke. Brother, mother, father. Father and Brother were both dead, mother was unlisted. That's what it said. It was unlikely that reports, seeing it for himself, and other things would lie about something like that. He listened carefully still to what Sabriel had to say and nodded again.

If his brother, Nicholas as a few things have said, was causing this and suppose to be dead? "Sabe, what kind of powers do you have to be put in this school?" Hotaru asked looking through the papers, his Japanese accent now more pronouced than it was earlier, he was very good at languages but it slipped out once in a while.

"Also, you said you heard voices and saw things right?" Hotaru questioned and thought about the birthday for a moment. It was yesterday, since Sabriel was found early that morning, right? So it had to have been the fourth, that was the only logical answer and Hotaru's calculations laid out perfectly, plus it said it on Sabriel's papers right near the top. "Also, Happy Birthday if it matters to you at all, we share a birthday I suppose." Hotaru said and tried to offer a small smile to cheer him up. Sharing a birthday didn't matter, but thought he should try and make a little bit of conversation with him besides asking questions. He just waited for answers now.
