It was only in those few moments that Sabriel noticed the other guy had his phone. "Oh... what's that doing here?" he asked, oblivious to the fact that it was in the middle of a call and that Carta could hear everything they spoke about.

For a moment, Sabriel actually had to think. Powers? He had powers? Oh, yeah, right. "Shadows," he said with a nod. "You know... controlling them, and moving in them, and stuff." He wasn't sure how to put it more eloquently, but it worked for now. He was sure he would get the point. "And yeah, I hear and see things... I have meds for it..."

Wait. Wait.

He'd said happy birthday?

He'd... he'd wished him a happy birthday?

Sabriel's eyes widened, appearing somewhat glassy as an overwhelming emotion came over him. Birthdays had never been celebrated for him aside from maybe a cake, for his family was simply too poor to purchase gifts, but just saying that was enough for Sabriel. They were the kindest words he'd gotten from a stranger in a long, long time.

"Thank you," he whispered, obviously touched. "August fourth? I turned sixteen... what about you? And what did you say your name was again?"

Had Sabriel just made a new friend?

Hotaru nodded at that and started to pull together what he had on Sabriel. He noticed that Sabriel was feeling some sort of emotion at the happy birthday, that was obviously happiness. With the thanks, Hotaru just nodded again before going to answer the question and then went on to say that Nicholas was probably nothing more than his own mind.

"I'm seventeen now, and you can call me Hotaru." He said before putting the papers asided and picked up the phone to check if the person was still listening. He was, or well, the conversation was still going and the clock was ticking onto six minutes now.

"Anyways, Sabe. I'm going to assume that the brother that has been pestering you is nothing more than your own mind playing tricks on you. It's not completely positive, but most likely. Considering your brother is dead, coming from your memory and your personal records. He is able to hurt you through bending your own shadows to do so." Hotaru explained trying to sound stern with it and seriously trying to get this over with.

He waited until Sabriel would reply before going to turn off the mute or hang up the phone. Depending on what happened, Hotaru would. Would Carta want to talk to Sabriel or not? Hotaru wasn't completely sure if Carta did or didn't really care, but assuming that Nicholas was lying to get his own way. "Also, if something ever threatens your physical being. You can come to me or the MMA club. I'll try to make sure your mother doesn't hurt you if she comes." Hotaru said with a promise hinted strongly in his voice, he was just trying to make Sabriel feel more secure, doubting his mom would even show up. It was a possiblity and Hotaru would withhold the promise if needed.
