Yoka ordered the house special, which was a delightful blend of......she wasn't exactly sure what it was. But, it was delicious, and possibly magical, and that's all that matters. As she was tapping her foot not out of impatience but habit, the fox noticed something strange.

She must have something in her eye because she swore--

Nope.

The lights were flickering.

A moment later, the power went out in the cafe. The girl's laptop completely powered off just as she was hitting the save button, and she gave a dejected groan, only to knock her cup of coffee over as she slammed the lid closed. It poured over the top of her laptop and when she went to get up to grab paper towellels, the strap of her purse hooked to her chair and sent her tumbling......

...Yoka took a few steps forward and watched as the girl fell....

...............right into Murphy.

Between the shock, the stress, and the embarrassment, she couldn't help it. She started to cry, holding onto the young man for comfort.

Yoka arched an eyebrow and flashed a grin at him, waiting to see what his reaction would be.

Murphy tried to relax but found himself still uncomfortable with the idea of using his powers on someone who was just trying to get through the day. He stole another glance at the young woman when the power failed and everything went wrong for the poor girl.

As if dictated by Rube Goldberg himself, she managed to not only lose her progress on whatever she was working on, but proceeded to ruin her computer, spill the entire contents of her purse, and as Murphy rose to try to help her had tumbled into him, sending them both crashing down upon a table covered in dirty dishes and glassware.

Instinctively he'd wrapped his arms around her rather than attempt to protect himself from the shards of ceramic and glass showering them and his face stung as sharp slivers sliced along his face and cheeks. Nothing permanent, but it'd sting like hell for a while. Coupled with the sudden flash of white when his head connected with the tile flooring he lay there a few moments before trying to move again.

Dazedly he glanced down at the student, who had just begun sobbing into his jacket, probably overworked and overwhelmed by the sudden escalation of her already shitty day.

"Hey there miss, it's alright. I've got ya." he muttered soothingly, hands stroking through her hair like a parent comforting a child. "You're gonna be alright miss, just breathe. You're safe."

He managed to sit up after a couple of false starts and reached into his pocket, withdrawing a bright blue handkerchief that clashed horribly with his jacket and offered it to her. "Here, take a moment. Don't worry about moving yet. Take it slow, are you injured?" She seemed alright, just shaken and probably horribly depressed after this turn of events.

He glanced up at Yoka, unsure of why she was smiling. He'd just ruined someone's day, possibly semester depending on whether or not she could recover the paper. Surely she had some way to make this into a positive situation, she wouldn't just have him inflict this pain onto someone else for fun...right?

Yoka's eyebrow was still arched, her grin still lingering on her face, but now her expression was more bemused than anything else.

How was he missing the fact that his luck just sent a pretty girl literally falling into his lap?

The girl was still clinging to him, her tears soaking into his shirt, and she took a deep breath and wiped her eyes on the back of her arm.

"I'm--" she sniffed. "I'm okay. I'm just....that...that was hours of work, and now it's all gone."

Her voice broke out into a wail again and she started to sob harder. Once more, she clung desperately to Murphy while her breath came in short, frantic bursts, and her chest pressed into his own. "That...that was my entire project. I..I don't know how I'll ever pass the semester now. I can't afford to retake that class, that tuition is too much, I'd...I'd need some way to make money but I can't get hired."

Here, Yoka stepped back into the situation, slipping one of her business cards into Murphy's hand and giving him a wink.

"Give it to her," she mouthed.

The lights above them had started to flicker as the lights came back on, and a barista walked over the to trio.

"I have two specials, for a Murphey and a Yoka?" the barista looked at Murphy and the woman in his arms. "Would you like me to set these on the table here, sir?"

Murphy cursed inwardly. He'd seen the girl on her laptop, he'd seen how tired and frantic she was, he should have known better than to risk any sort of interference and now he may have just ruined someone's life because of it... god damn it.

He glanced up and palmed Yoka's card, giving an appreciative nod. "Well, there is a silver lining to all of this. A... friend of mine is looking to expand her business, a company called..." he looked at the card, "the Crossed Fox. I could put in a word for you and I'm sure you could do well there." He'd never heard of the business but damn if that was going to keep him from trying to help her.

It was then that he became aware of a sort of hush falling over the people around them. A few of them began chuckling quietly and shaking their heads. Had he done something wrong?

Glancing down at the woman she seemed to have composed herself and was staring at the card, then him, then back to the card as her cheeks flushed. She pocketed the card, gathered her things and rushed out of the restaurant without another word.

Well, that could have gone better. "What the hell did I do this time?" Murphy wondered aloud.

Yoka was grinning at Murphy, and she took her drink from the barista and took a sip. Her order was wrong, but she could not complain because it was better than what she'd hoped for.

"Thank you Murphy," Yoka said, reaching down to offer a hand to the young man to help him up off the ground.

She wondered if she should explain the strange looks or the quiet chuckles. It was honestly quite amusing, and the fox wasn't sure if she should ruin her enjoyment or not.

But, she supposed, she should probably at least extend the offer.

"You should come by the Cross Fox one day," she told him. "I think you might find it quite enjoyable."

Truthfully, Yoka was wondering what sort of disaster might occur. There hadn't been an incident at the cross fox in decades now, and though the kitsune couldn't exactly say she was eager to see what would happen, his bad luck and her charm might result in a twist of fate....or maybe it would just burn the place down. She wanted to believe it wouldn't be fatal, though.

She took a sip of her drink and said, quite honestly, "If you're interested in an internship, I can think of a few things that could help pad a resume."

Murhphy settled into his seat and toyed with the cup thoughtfully. An internship, now there was an interesting idea. He could certainly use the work experience and Yoka's ample experience with the business practices and politics of the island could prove greatly beneficial to his future career.

He frowned down at his drink as a thought followed quickly on the heels of that one; she was obviously a competent businesswoman who commanded not a significant suite of abilities both mundane and mystic but also a level of insight that had kept her going for, if her words were to be believed, hundreds of years. So why would someone with that much going for them offer a position to he who was openly a focal point for bad luck? He realized he'd been staring at her for a little longer than polite and floundered for conversation.

"Well I'm flattered that you think I'd fit in at your establishment but what benefit could I offer your business that wouldn't be almost immediately offset by my er... abilities? I mean I'd love to get some experience in the field, and I'll gladly give it a shot, I'm just concerned about... well, you saw what happened." he motions out towards the street where the piano has scarcely missed them.
