Shay had organized a small basket of things. A thank-you teddy bear, fancy, imported pasta sauce (from Klaus, naturally), homemade cookies (which Shay had help from Vito with), and a light green, jelly bracelet.

To Shay, this was an excuse to see Angelo. She didn't need one, but she felt better with one. She wanted to thank him for the help and make sure he wasn't angry with her about the whole Klaus ordeal. It had been awhile since she'd seen him. So much had happened. She felt guilty, but she wanted to pretend she didn't. There was nothing to feel bad about, right? She'd been adopted, for one. He didn't need to know that. He likely wouldn't ask. Shay wanted to tell him, anyway.

The girl breathed in slowly as she came to the police department. They'd be busy, wouldn't they? With the tsunami aftermath. It was better now, but there were still things that needed doing. Maybe she could help Officer Angelo again? She doubted he'd let her.

Shay walked inside, chin held high and with a confident gait. Years later, when or if this story was ever told, Shay would adamantly deny the manipulative little trick she played next. They weren't keen on giving Angelo for her. That was all fair; he was probably busy and times weren't great.

So she lied.

Well, lied may have been too strong a word. She didn't lie so black and white. But she made it sound like she needed him. That whatever this was, was important, and when a little girl acted scared like that when they only trusted one person to help? Well. They got what they wanted.

Before she knew it, she was ushered into a room -- not an interrogation room, those were intimidating to kids, don't you know? Not a normal interrogation room. It was one of those kid ones. With the little tables and drawing books. Shay thought she was a little old for that, but whatever.

She hadn't been allowed to take her basket of goodies with her and while she pretended everything was fine, the guy who got Angelo apparently thought things were not. Again, adamant denial. It wasn't like she'd acted horrified. It wasn't like she'd used the recent disaster as a method to get what she wanted. That would have been terrible. What child would do something like that? Certainly not her.

Angelo really didn't know what to expect when one of his coworkers had grabbed him from his desk, saying that he was needed. Someone had specifically requested him by name. It was unusual to say the least, and he'd handed his work off to Tybalt before heading into the room.

He was not expecting to see Shay, and his brow immediately furrowed with concern. He hadn't seen her since the tsunami, and while he'd certainly wondered about her, for the most part he'd accepted that she was probably doing just fine. He'd been too busy to do anything that wasn't work, so things like 'checking to make sure people were okay' had become a distant ideal.

So finding her in the station was jarring. Something had obviously happened, and his mind immediately ran to the worst of places. Something bad had happened and she'd come to one of the cops she knew was okay. His imagination was made even worse because he knew she'd been with Klaus. If he'd hurt her...

"Are you alright?" His tone was a bit on the demanding side, but obviously worried.

Shay's face brightened when she saw Angelo, and she stood as he entered the room. She didn't go over to him, though. She didn't look too terribly upset.

"I'm fine. I just wanted to see you and thank you for helping me." Shay looked off to the side awkwardly, nibbling her lower lip. "I had a basket for you, but, they took it. Guess that stuff isn't allowed in here, huh?" She shrugged before sitting.

Shay watched Angelo carefully, even as she pretended to be nonchalant as ever. The sharpness of his question left her wondering if he were angry at her for having spent time with Klaus. She'd have told him it was an accident, but she didn't want to be the one to bring it up. Maybe he was just stressed.

She looked... unbothered. And when she explained her reasons for being there, Angelo actually let out a little huff. There wasn't any danger. There wasn't any trouble. She just wanted to see him, and was acting like it was no big deal.

Well, it wouldn't have been a big deal... if he wasn't a cop. But he was - he was a cop, and that meant he couldn't just be on call for young girls who wanted a chat.

He frowned down at her, not sitting. "Shay..." He paused, reminding himself that Shay was twelve, fairly innocent, and probably had just been horribly corrupted by someone Angelo had a generally poor opinion of.

"Shay, I'm a cop - my job deals with people's lives and livelihood. You told them it was important." Which wasn't entirely accurate, but it was what he'd been told. "What if I was with a suspect? What if I was on my way to a scene to save someone's life, but I turned back around because I thought you needed me?"

A flash of guilt crossed Shay's eyes. She hadn't thought about that. It was silly that she hadn't, the first time they had met, Angelo was doing one of those things. She just figured cops were guys who wore outfits and sat around. Silly, silly.

But... "Were you?" Shay asked. "Were you doing something like that?" Even trying to pretend like she hadn't been in the wrong, Shay still felt guilty about it.

Eroshay lowered her head, though she didn't downcast her eyes from his. "I'm sorry Officer Angelo. I just didn't know where else I could have found you, and I wanted to say thank you for everything and make sure you weren't mad at me."

Shay didn't point out why he might have been mad at her. She figured he either wasn't, or he was, and if he were, he would inform her why that was. When you had been doing plenty of things that deserved anger, it was easier to use this tactic.

Angelo, despite having never raised anything more difficult than a cactus, was apparently naturally gifted in the ways of parenting. It was immediately obvious to him that his words had the intended effect, and he relaxed slightly as her guilt became more obvious.

"If I was going to be mad, it'd be over this. I take my job seriously. You didn't interrupt me today, but you honestly could have." He paused for a moment, obviously mulling something over before he decided on what he was going to do.

"So, you're going to have to meet me halfway. It'd be super inappropriate for me to stand around here chatting - assuming you want more then to see me, you'll need to see me later. If all you wanted to do was say thanks, you can do that right here, but if not..." He knew, almost one hundred percent, that she wanted more than to just 'say thanks'. She probably wanted to catch up, and a long winded chat was not going to look good with the chief.

He dug around in his pockets to find a scrap of paper and a pen, leaning against the wall to scribble out an address before turning and holding it out for her to take.

"I'll meet you there after work at around four?" Thankfully his shift was a short one.

Shay rocked on her heels, a child trying to find something worthwhile to say. She didn't want to apologize because honestly, if she had to do it over, she'd have done it the same way and pride kept her from wanting to reveal any of the guilt she felt. She downcast her eyes.

When she heard him fish in his pocket and write, she looked up, leaning forward to see what he was writing. When he turned back to her, Shay leaned away, having been too close for comfort. Shay took the paper and looked at it, unable to believe that he had given her his address. She had officer Angelo's address! Oh, she was going to have to hide this. Maybe Vito would help her.

When she looked up, Shay was wide-eyed. "Y-Yeah. Is that your house?" She figured it was, but she had to make sure. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was just some place she had never been to before. Then, suddenly, she remembered that she wasn't free to just go wherever she wanted anymore. That would take some getting used to.

"Can I have your phone number? That way if I can't make it I can call you at four and let you know?"

"No." He wasn't quite at the point of handing out his home address to people he'd met twice. Plus, it wasn't really his house - it was Jack's house, and he had a room there. He wasn't big on inviting anyone over, even if all signs pointed to Jack not actually minding. He was pretty sure he could have paraded anyone he wanted through the house and Jack wouldn't have cared as long as they kept the noise down to a dull roar.

"Address is to a little restaurant I visit a lot. Nice place to meet up, I know the owners, and we'll be able to sit and talk without worrying about work." And it was in public, which was always nice when you were meeting up with a twelve year old. Even if most people probably wouldn't have batted an eye and just assumed she was older, Angelo certainly did care.

He mulled over the idea of his phone number before leaning over to scribble it out on the paper. It wasn't on him during work anyway, so it wasn't like it was a big deal if she did have it. "Let me know if you can't make it, alright?"

"Oh," Shay said, trying to hide her minor disappointment. That was fair of him, not to want to hand out his address to some little girl. At least, he agreed to the phone number. She took that as equally star-eyed as she had taken the address offered to her.

After an enthusiastic nod, Shay skipped out of the police department, but not before reminding Angelo that she had brought a basket for him and telling him she would leave it there for him to pick up after he was off work.

Eroshay had tried, really truly she had, not to tell Klaus or Vito, who she was going to meet and where, but Klaus was a better parent than one might imagine a crime lord to be. He wanted to know where his daughter was going and with who.

Finally, with a healthy dose of guilt in her breast, Shay admitted to Klaus that she was going to visit Angelo. He was ecstatic, naturally, and Shay agreed to let him come along. It shouldn't have been her choice; she knew that she was the child, but for some reason it was, and Shay had no desire to question the intricacies of her and Klaus' relationship more than she already did.

They 'dressed to impress,' before heading out. It was one of those rare times that Shay donned a dress. It was new; Klaus had helped her pick it out when they revamped her entire wardrobe. By dress standards, Shay liked it. A simple black dress that felt to the knee with long sleeves and fitted with red fishnet lace.

Now, standing outside the restaurant, Shay turned and evened her stare on Klaus, the way a parent might to a usually rambunctious child. "Before we go in you have to repeat the rules. I want to make sure you understand crystal clear."

Despite his teasing through texts and the opinions he had on the man, Klaus hadn't personally met Angelo Genovese before. However, he was certainly interested, and Shay spoke highly of him, so this was the perfect opportunity to fix that. Not to mention… after poking around a bit, he'd discovered Angelo was housemates with none other than Jack, a lovable oversized drunk, Klaus' friend and Mikh's good ol' salty ex. The kingpin was a huge fan of ridiculous connections, which was fantastic, seeing he seemed to attract and shove himself into so many of them.

Even without all of that, he still would've wanted to come along. Shay was a minor, and being with the police didn't automatically mean he could trust someone he'd never gotten to know alone with his daughter. Hell fucking no. And a cop and a crimelord's kid interacting could definitely have troublesome aspects of its own. He needed to see how this went, how they interacted. Klaus was more than sure he'd be an uh, unwelcome presence, to put it lightly, but… dad's gotta do what a dad's gotta do, right? He had no fear of his own, of course. If an officer tried to arrest him for showing up to a restaurant, he'd just laugh.

Still. He went civilian over mob boss on this outing, for the most part. Angelo being caught associating with him, stuck with any rumors that could come from that, was not something Klaus wanted. This was social, not business. So, Rosales brand looks, sharper and prettier than a knife. While he wasn't here to intimidate, he was always out to impress, and as flashy as ever. Shay was decently snazzy as well, and Klaus thought he was winning her over with his pushes towards bolder fashion choices.

Klaus was bouncing on his feet a bit by the time they'd arrived, but paused when Shay gave him a look. Reminded him of Vito. Klaus snorted at her words. "Alright, alright," he said, putting his hands up in surrender. "Uh, let's see… No, no, I remember, shh." He cleared he throat, just a bit theatrical. "One, no dating, sleeping, or flirting with Angelo. Two, best behavior! Three, don't call him a pretentious criminal. Terms and conditions begrudgingly skimmed through and agreed to. Happy? Oh, and remember my rule. We don't tell Vito we restaurant-cheated on him. Never."

Klaus grinned and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze, tail flicking about playfully. "C'mon, let's go find your adorable pet police officer."
