“L-like a real witch?†She looked at him in horror, which turned to severe confusion. “Wha… What? Sedating? Why are they sedating you?â€Â
"I, uh," Loch didn't know how to explain it without lying or telling the truth. "I have problems when I don't eat, and I can't sleep very well, I'm not like..crazy or anything."
He was so, so grateful when she changed the subject that he squeezed her a little tighter to him and let out an audible sigh of relief.
“So why’d you ask to learn how to cook? You could like, just learn that on your own, right?â€Â
Loch shrugged. "I didn't know who to ask when I came here, and my family uh, ate out a lot, so I never really bothered to learn too much. I'm good with things like canning fruit or making ice cream, but meat and fire is a weird concept to me yet."
They were getting deeper into the woods and the trees were becoming thicker, so Loch untangled himself from her temporarily to lead the way. "Careful, the ground gets a little uneven...but it's not too much further, just up past the top of that hill."
He picked up the pace a little bit, because Loch was excited. Up over the hill, it opened up just a little, and there was an apple orchard. At this point, most of the good apples were at the top of the tree, but he didn't mind climbing for her--he'd already put a pirate flag on the branch of one so it'd be the first thing she'd see when they reached the top.
And the view wasn't too bad, either. It wasn't anywhere near the top of the mountain, but it was still well-worth it. They'd be able to see out over the bay, and Loch hoped the view of the ocean would be enough to instil a sense of pirate-y adventure without putting them in danger of any sea spray or tidal waves or anything else. he was not going to get wet today. He wanted to kiss her.
"What about you--you said before you could make BBQ sauce, so are you a cook?"
So close.
