Chloe accepted the seashell. On some level, she understood that

She didn't answer immediately. She was staring at him, or perhaps she was looking past him, through him.

After a moment, she sighed and nodded.

"Yeah, I think I know that feeling."

Chloe reached out and put a hand on his shoulder. She started to drain him. "We don't have to talk about it anymore."

She moved in to give him a hug. Emotional support had become more important than keeping blood off her shirt.

She accepted the sea shell and, for some reason, that seemed to relax him. His shoulders unfurled and when she reached out to hug him, Lochlann accepted it with ease. He rested his head on her shoulder for a moment, smelling the clean scent of bed sheets and sleep.

He felt the familiar warmth start to course through him and Lochlann realized he was shaking. He took another deep breath and then another. When he finally exhaled, it almost sounded like a sob.

But Lochlann couldn't cry. It was impossible.

"You know if you need anything, you can always call me, okay?" Lochlann said. "I know I'm a mess right now, but I can always get it together for you."

Lochlann closed his eyes and let himself stop feeling.
