Milo seemed like a very similar sort of person to Havoc. Not a soldier--not at all--but a similar level of seriousness that wasn't displayed in so many other candidates.

"Did you not consider running again?" Havoc asked, cocking his head to the side as he did.

"And if you don't mind, I'd love to hear more advice." Well, any advice. Milo had talked a lot and helped Havoc get a feel for him, but he hadn't actually dispensed any real advice to him. That was what Havoc had come for--mistakes he'd made that Havoc could avoid. Things he should watch out for.

[tom=http://i.imgur.com/fPMnNFc.png, #ff0067]Milo hummed. "I did consider it. Maybe next time. Life has been busy, and last time I did this, it was nearly my main focus for the entire month-- barely got any sleep. We did some big events, too. So I'd need that time to put aside, no half assing it. What about you, think you'll keep doing this if you win, or is this a one time experience grab?" Might be a case of 'we'll see', too. Hard to know how you'll feel about actually being on Student Council before you're on it, and it wasn't the same as campaigning. Some flourished, some drowned in regret, too much paperwork, and stressful student complaints.

"Nah, I don't mind, that's what you're here for." Milo laughed lightly. "I've just been interrogating you, huh? Making sure you're ready for everything. Let's see. Anything gone well or caused slip ups already, so I'm not too repetitive and pretentious with what I say? Bear with me here."[/tom]

"I am unsure," Havoc said, which was a big fat we'll see. "It might be that once is enough and gives me enough experience. Or it might be that the council is something I intend to continue being a part of, even if not as president. I think, at most, I'd only want to be president once--from everything you've said and everything I've heard, it's a tiring job that takes up a lot of time."

Not that Havoc had a lot of stuff that was taking up his time or anything. Really, he had nothing else to do. He didn't have a job while on the island, didn't have extra curricular activities... He could have been president until he left the island without issue, but he assumed that eventually he'd find something to do with his time.

"So far I was unprepared early on. My posters didn't get up until the third day, which was a setback. My speech seemed to be well received, and I made a point of speaking to most of the other people running for council." Those were the main points, as he saw them, but he wasn't sure if that was what Milo was asking.

[tom=http://i.imgur.com/fPMnNFc.png, #ff0067]"Tiring, absolutely, but rewarding in its own right. We're students, so it's not like we can have as much power as teachers per se, but it's not impossible to make a real difference in the council, especially as president. If you have plans, that spot makes them easiest to implement."

Milo nodded along quietly again, taking in that information. "Lack of preparation is what screwed me over my first try, but back then, I wasn't as serious. Playing catch up is rough but you're definitely managing well. Your speech was very nice, and speaking to the other candidates, who you'll be spending a lot of time with soon, is great too."

"How're you doing with catching the people that typically shrug off the elections? And club backing? Winning the favor of bigger groups is very relevant, but be careful it never looks corrupt. It's a weird balance."[/tom]

Havoc had given almost no thought to clubs. He wasn't a part of any clubs, so getting a club to back him seemed like a hard prospect.

"I've been reading out individually to people. I've won over a few who seem interested in self defense and might not have otherwise voted," Havoc said, thinking of a few in particular. "But I haven't reached out to any clubs. I'm not a member of any, and I'm not sure that I could reach out to any in particular without it coming across as intentionally fishing for votes."

If he came across as corrupt in any way, it would be a serious risk to his campaign, and so he'd avoided doing anything that might have been misconstrued.

[tom=http://i.imgur.com/fPMnNFc.png, #ff0067]"Showing an interest to clubs doesn't automatically seem like vote fishing, because the president deals with clubs and helps them regularly. Checking in on them and talking about how you'll be treating them is a normal part of most campaigns, or if not normal, it's smart and will effect you in your future council work. If you don't deal with them now, you'll still be dealing with them later, so avoiding reaching out might lose you allies." Milo latched on to this, something he could actually talk about and share wisdom on, with a passion.

"That's my reccomendation. And if you don't have the time to do that in your campaign, play catch up as soon as you can manage it. Groups are helpful, and clubs can often contribute to school events, or give you a quick way of accessing and talking to multiple people."[/tom]

Havoc nodded along to Milo's explanation, listening in. It was all fairly logical and made perfect sense, but none of it was anything that Havoc would have thought up on his own.

"I think I'd like to approach the Demonic Student Union," Havoc said. "They do good work, and seem quite popular on campus. They're also a prime candidate for people in need of self defense training, since I was told there were protests and threats against demons made."

They would be good to tie into his school safety platform, but he might have left things too late.

"I'll have to reach out even after the election," Havoc confirmed. "It won't change the votes, but it might still help gain approval and bring attention to the self defense classes."

[tom=http://i.imgur.com/fPMnNFc.png, #ff0067]Milo flashed a grin. "Demonic Student Union is a good one, crazy well loved, not to mention needed. Starlight Political Alliance, too, does volunteer work and has a focus on politics and helping people here-- and they're heavily tied to the Student Council. These groups will be your support in many areas."

"It won't change the vote, no, but if people hate you while you're in office it won't be good. Doing anything will be rough as hell. Continued approval will make everything flow, and you'll keep the allies even when you're off the council-- I sure have."[/tom]

Havoc did even more nodding along, although he wasn't quite sure what to make of the Starlight Political Alliance. He hadn't looked into them, and the name struck him as a bit too close to the 'popular' group he'd been trying to separate himself from. It deserved further investigation, at least.

"I'll keep that in mind, thank you," Havoc said, giving a brief nod of his head. "This has all been very useful. If you don't mind, I might reach out to you if I encounter issues while I'm on the council."

It was always good to have allies.
