Wei was happy that Hal seemed to be enjoying the movie. Every time something happened Hal would pip up with a little comment or a quote a funny line, and whenever wei couldn't help himself but sing along with a few songs (Hey it's okay, it's okay--you're welcome!) Hal would quietly clap to the beat.

It was nice. Wei hadn't really interacted with anyone much in the last year--just spending time getting himself together after losing his way and forgetting what made him feel happy. He'd made the decision to leave all the clubs he'd joined and started, and as a result he was happier, but he felt so alone.

They were reaching the midpoint. Wei glanced over excitedly to see how Hal was taking it, and there was nothing. It didn't even look like he was watching the movie at all anymore.

Wei tilted his head. Had Hal always been this way? Looking through his memories, he realized that no, this wasn't how Hal had always been. "Hal, you alright?" The monkey reached over and tapped the spacebar on his laptop, pausing the movie in the middle of Moana talking.

"It seems like you have something on your mind."

Wei's voice was almost lost to him but it was almost like the click of the spacebar forcefully pulled Hal out his thoughts, making him jump a little. He seemed to take a moment staring at his friend blankly before turning his gaze back to the slice of bread in his hands.

""S-sorry, am I ruining this?" he said rather weakly, picking off crumbs off the bread. "I'm just kinda antsy. It's... its nothing big." Though by the way he looked listless, it was more than anything little. He wanted to say 'Let's just get back to watching the movie! but it was as if he lost his voice, he couldn't find it in him to say it.

He tried a few times but the only time his voice didn't fail him was when he decided they couldn't continue with him acting spacey. "Picking back up from everything isn't as easy as I thought, you know?"

"Picking back up from everything isn't as easy as I thought, you know?"

Wei was, understandably, confused. He hadn't known that there was anything happening that he would need to pick up the pieces after. Had something happened? What had Hal been hiding from him? Did he hide it because he didn't think that he could handle it? Wei fidgeted a bit, sitting on his hands to keep himself for jittering around too much. He hadn't felt this nervous in a while. Maybe this was actually all his fault?

"What do you mean Hal?" Wei asked, leaning over a bit. "What happened?"

Hal threw a few glances at Wei, while the latter seemed to struggle understanding what he'd just said. He didn't need to wonder why; he'd kept Wei in the dark this whole time. He told him he was busy with school, chatted a few times but always avoided talking about the problems he was having along that time. Maybe he even thought it was his fault.

"I messed up. Really bad," he blurted out, not even hesitating with his words. "I wasn't lying when I said I was catching up with school work since a few months ago but... I also tried cutting off interaction with some people." Hal figteted with the hem of the pillow that was resting on his lap, like it could soothe whatever anxiety that was building up.

"I mean I practically went in hiding just because I couldn't think of how to face them when I was doing really badly with pretty much everything and..." Hal breathed out a sigh, burying his face into the pillow to muffle a groan just from remembering how he dun fucked up. "I guess I'm starting to face the consequences for that dumb stunt I pulled."

Hal had tried to cut off his interactions with people? Wei hadn't noticed a huge change in how often he and Hal talked, so he supposed that maybe he hadn't really been trying to stop his interactions with him specifically, which was nice to hear. He was glad to know that Hal tolerated him enough to keep talking to him, even when it sounds like he was having a bad time.

Aside from internally reacting to what his friend was saying, Wei simply sat and listened, his tail swishing slowly against the soft blankets and pillows he was sitting on. After a moment of silence, he spoke up. "What do you mean by 'they'? What stunt did you pull--do you mean not contacting other people for a long time, or...?"

He really wanted to understand. It made him upset that his friend was going through this and he didn't know how to help him. "If, you don't mind telling me more, that is."

Hal breathed a sigh, a heavy one at that when Wei questioned him who he was referring to. Well, it was probably at least... three people? But, thinking about it didn't make him feel any better. Hal stayed silent for a few moments longer after Wei finished speaking.

"A few people I considered close friends. One of them was my best friend-- I mean you're my best friend too but she's..." Hal seemed to catch himself, a little blush coming across his face, though barely noticeable with the lighting. "I just avoided them every where, ignored every message, blocked them in a few places. I didn't give them a warning sign or anything. I--" Aw geez, that was really a dick move wasn't it? "I tried getting back to the flow and everything just last week and.. I really thought everything was going to be fine if I just... go back there, like everything was fine. I guess I didn't realize that... when you're really close with people, cutting them off like that is the worst thing you could do to them."

Another sigh, which was more of a long exhale. He said he didn't want to think about it anymore but apparently he was wrong there, too."She-- Claire almost hated me when I ran into her. I just really messed up and I can't not think about it?"

Wei was listening quietly, his hands folded in his lap as he tried to understand. It seemed like Hal had some kind of meltdown and ended up pushing people out of his life that he didn't actually want out of his life. What did that mean for his relationship with Hal? Did that make him more or less important than this person? He squeezed his hands together. No. He wasn't going to start making the people he cared about rank him to his other friends. He had no reason to feel like he was any more or less important than this person Hal was talking about.

He had an inkling that what Hal had felt was more than just friendship. The way he trailed off when trying to describe her was the same way they did it in movies, when the main lead would be so awestruck by someone that they momentarily lose the words to describe them. It made him smile, imagining Hal being happy in that way.

But apparently he'd messed it up.

And coming back to her after what he'd done seemed like a mistake.

Wei didn't really know what to say. He was no romance expert. He didn't have any wise words to make it all go away, or advice to point Hal in the right direction. In moments of turmoil, Wei really only had one way of making everything feel better.

He reached over to Hal, and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Do you want me to order a pizza? Will pizza make it better?"

Real talk, Hal wasn't expecting any advice from Wei but maybe he was probably looking for some support from him. Not pity, no, he hated getting pitied, but he liked getting support from a friend. And that was all he'd probably be okay hearing anyway. Hal almost winced at the contact but managed to keep his calm, and giving a small smile to Wei, "Sure, pizza would probably work," he muttered.

Hal picked on the sleeve of his shirt, fidgeting from the awkward air he just created. "Sorry about interrupting movie night," he began, "I really thought I could go by without feeling really sorry for myself for that for one evening. I didn't want her to think I was so... pathetic but I guess keeping her out for the whole time I was trying to get my shit together didn't actually help. Guess I was wrong about that too. " He stayed quiet for a bit, just picking on random hems he could reach. Trying to redirect the conversation, he turned a question to Wei, "How'd the past few months been for you though?"

Wei smiled when Hal accepted his offer of pizza and went over to his laptop, typing in the url to a popular pizza place that had a website he could use. He liked ordering online better than putting in a call because he noticed that people sometimes had difficulty understanding his accent when he ordered over the phone. Plus, he could always use the coupon for ordering online when he did this.

"What toppings do you want? I hear cheese is a good comfort food, so maybe extra cheesy?"

Wei clicked around on the site. His last order had been a pizza with bananas and crickets on it, because hey, a monkey boy tended to like fruit and insects.

"Don't worry about it, we're friends! So, I'm glad you decided to tell me."

He bit his lip. He didn't know how to respond to Hal's statements.

"Oh, me? Eh... I guess I've been better too." His tail twitched around fretfully. "Did you hear? I had a really bad meltdown months ago, and I ended up stepping down from the student council for the rest of the term. Had to do a lot of soul searching. I left all the clubs I joined, and... I dunno... I guess I feel better, but I miss hanging out with everyone you know? I miss having a lot of people around me. I feel lonely a lot."

"Can we roll with whatever their meat lovers' choice they have? Extra cheesy, definitely," Hal replied absentmindedly. He didn't really put much thought into it other than... strangely enough he was feeling a little like he should stuff his face with a pizza loaded with all the meat pizza could legally have.

Hal didn't interrupt when Wei spoke, but his eyes were observing his movements. Hal wasn't the best at reading people but tails were quite a bit of a handicap for reading reactions. It might have been bad to ask but he tried to act like he hadn't noticed at thing. "Yeah... I heard about the student council thing," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck. While it was a comfort for him that he wasn't alone, it was a little concerning for someone like Wei. He could go months without hanging out with people and that was tried and tested. "I mean, it's good you're feeling better now. ... "

Hal fell into a thoughtful quiet for just a few seconds before he spoke again. Last year's been crazy, hasn't it?" he mused, almost jokingly, but both of them knew it wasn't.
