"Huh, interesting."

She tilted her head, considering it. Based on what she knew of magic, what he was describing wasn't too far out, but the mechanics of how it seemed to work wasn't what she'd normally expect.

"I, um, don't suppose you'd be willing to demonstrate? N-not the uh, hellfire thing," She quickly clarified, asking him to set something on fire was probably a little too destructive for a friendly demonstration in the middle of the city. "But at least the shapeshifting?"

"Eh, sure I can do a thing," he answered, glancing around. He doubted anyone would mind if he did shift in there so long as it wasn't anything too big. He only seemed to focus for a second before runes appeared in the air around him like an egg that was shrinking down on him. Then it stopped, and peeled away to reveal a little black rabbit with bat wings for ears.

"I've got other forms, but this is definitely one of the tamest just going by appearance."

He hopped up onto the table so she could get a better look.

Wednesday watched as the transformation took place, not in the way someone might gawk at seeing some new trick, but with her usual inquisitive, analytical eye. She took note on the appearance of the runes, committing the shapes to memory as his body shrunk down into the rabbit. She blinked down as he hopped onto the table.

"That's...kinda cute actually...aw..."

She was tempted to reach out and scratched behind his ears the same way she might with her cat, but decided against it. That'd be kinda weird, and she was doing a good job of not being weird so far.

"That looked interesting. Thanks for showing me." She smiled.

"Huh looks like I've accomplished part of my goal," he said as he took a big sip from his smoothie and gave her a thumbs up. He was pretty proud of his form, and this form in particular. He flapped his ear wings. Then he shifted back into his human form.

He thought about other conversation topics. What other things do teenagers do? "So do you like movies or music? Stuff?"

Wednesday was actually still thinking of the transformation process as he shifted back. The whole thing had started to give her ideas; maybe using the same method channelled through her familiar...

But before she could go full into magic nerd mode and think about it some more the topic of conversation swung back to herself. Wednesday rubbed the back of her neck, looking slightly embarrassed before she spoke.

"Well um...before I came to the island my family were pretty um, traditional, you could say." She explained. "I didn't really get exposed to a lot of the things kids my age usually are. I didn't even get internet access for most of my life."

The more time she'd spent on the island the more her sheltered upbringing seemed to stand out in her mind. Spending time with Tuesday did help to rectify that somewhat, but it didn't help how awkward she felt with other teens.

"I'm still uh, trying to feel out music that I like. I'm still catching up on movies as well. I um...I like fantasy movies? I used to read a lot of fantasy books as well, my family thought it was kinda stupid since, you know, not much point in reading about fake magic when I could be learning real magic..."

At least they never figured out what she named her cat for. She wouldn't have heard the end of it if they did.

"What about you?"

"Your family thought fantasy books were dumb because magic's real? It's not about the magic it's about the adventure. Like when are you gonna go out on some long journey and save some kingdom or something? I wish I could be a warlock or something in a fantasy book. It's like saying you shouldn't read about taxi drivers because you can just learn to drive a car."

He sighed and glanced out the window at the people going about their day.

"I grew up here," he said somewhat idly. "I guess it was pretty normal. Well as normal as growing up here can get. I'm pretty close with my mom. Kinda always been on the outs when it's come to making friends, but not for a lack of trying."

Trying... like that thing he was currently doing here with Wednesday. Sazz wasn't going to keep it a secret or anything. Honesty was the best policy right?

"I kinda listen to everything but if I can dance to it that's just perfect. I'm kind of a film junkie though. Kinda why I took to working at a movie theater. Everything that goes into movies and stage plays and things is just super interesting. Well that and journalism. I know like everything that's going on around school, and I'm in the mass media club."

"I think it was less just the magic and more...well, not wasting time on stories instead of practical stuff, I guess."

She shrugged, lips pulling tight after she spoke, frowning to herself. She was aware it wasn't exactly normal treatment, they were similarly harsh to her siblings but were more willing to turn a blind eye to them. It was just another symptom of her families initial view of her. Unfortunately, she wasn't exactly able to ask them for their reasoning anymore. So she let the conversation move from herself again, listening attentively as he spoke. She could relate in a way, to being something of a loner, even if the reasons for why for both of them were different.

"Sounds like you keep yourself busy. I can imagine you being someone who likes dancing, just based on, um, how you enter a room." She said, with a light chuckle. "Is uh, the journalism why we're talking now? Just so you can say you actually know everything at the school?"

With the way she smiled after saying that it almost looked like she was trying to make a joke. That's gotta be some sign of progress.
