Wednesday trudged out of the academy library, backpack slung over her shoulder, yawning as she walked through the grounds under the afternoon soon. She couldn't keep the frown from her face as she walked. She'd been going over the books for months now, pouring over the vast stores of magical knowledge. And yet, she still felt she barely made any progress into solving her problem.

It was frustrating, to say the least.

But she was already past tired now, and she wasn't going to make any progress like this today. So she headed to the entrance to the school, thinking of what to do for the rest of the afternoon. Maybe it was time to try those scented candles Tuesday left her.

Classes were over, and he'd done everything he needed to do for club. Now there was the question of what to do from here? Sazz didn't really want to head home quite yet. Well, the best things in life are usually improvised. Which was when he spotted her.

A girl he'd met the other night at the community center, Wednesday. She had an interesting air about her, she was also hard to miss with her green skin. He had questions about that, and her eyepatch. That said, the demon knew you can't just ask things like that. The goal here was to make friends.

He'd just slide up next to her and....

"Hey there, how's it going?"

Wednesday was off buried in her own thoughts, so much that she didn’t hear him approaching from the blindspot her eyepatch left, not realising he was there until he was right next to her. With how high strung she already was feeling the surprise made her jumped a little, letting out a small yelp until she recognised who it was.

“Oh! Um, hello. Sazz, right?” She said after recomposing herself. “Guess you’re uh, heading home as well?”

As much as she was trying to be polite, she had a sneaking suspicion he’d try to mess with her again. Internally, she was bracing herself just in case. She wasn’t quite in the mood for that this afternoon.

Right, the eyepatch was a legit thing. Next time he'd move in from the other side. It didn't take a rocket scientist to tell she was probably anticipating the worst from him, but he really didn't come bearing any ill will.

"Yep! You remembered me," he was pleased with that much. Honestly how could anyone forget someone with eyebrows as quirky as his personality? "Nah... well not yet anyway. I guess I saw that we were both headed out and maybe we could hang out?"

He looked her over once again. "You seemed like you could use a distraction from whatever you were working on."

“It’s that obvious, huh?” She mumbles, rubbing her arm, sighing to herself as her shoulders sagged. He was right on the money, everything from her voice to her body language made that very clear.

“I um, appreciate the offer but…”

She was right about to say no and go on her way, but she began to trail off before she could. It’s not like she had any real plans for when she got back to Saturdays apartment, and she was still trying to meet new people. Sazz seemed like he could be a bit…much, but at the very least he seemed like he was trying to be friendly at the moment.

“…Did you want to um, hang out anywhere particular or…?” She trailed off again, awkwardly, at least curious to hear him out before turning the offer down.

"I mean there's the one cafe not too far from here, and there's a shake place too. The movie theater I work at shows old movies for cheap in the afternoon. But I guess that's more of a date thing..." Sazz rubbed his chin and considered. "Guess it really depends on what you wanna do."

The attempt was being made right here, right now. He never was the best at making lasting meaningful relationships but he sure would try. "Or who knows maybe a fresh set of eyes can help you with whatever you're working on. I may not look it, but I am a pretty smart guy."

So, regular, everyday teenager things. Somehow Wednesday didn’t often take the chance to do these sorts of things. She didn’t have too many friends outside her coven yet, so maybe it’d be nice to have an afternoon snack with someone new. At least that’s what she was considering before he mentioned the date thing.

Oh boy.

The last time a boy had implied something resembling a date with her she’d ended up with a bucket of water dunked over her head and a whole group of people mocking her for it. Suffice to say knowing that Sazz was the kinda guy to joke around with people only made her feel a little more suspicious.

“Well um, unless you happen to know a lot about magic I doubt you could help me too much.” She said, deciding not to elaborate much further on that. “But um…I wouldn’t mind a shake.”

As she said that, she gave him another look, eyes narrowing just a bit.

“…You uh, better not be planning any funny business.”

Sazz blinked at her... warning? Was this a warning? What was she gonna do if he was planning some funny business; never talk to him again? As if he hadn't been down that road before. He took a moment to consider what he was going to say. Or rather how he was going to say it.

"I might be an asshole, it's my nature to be an asshole as a demon lord. However I don't like wasting people's time, especially people I think I can get along with. Plus you seriously look like you could use a buddy," there was a brief pause then he added, "And for the record I do know a thing or twenty about magic. I'm not a warlock or anything, but I do read. Gotta keep up with this stuff y'know?"

And with that he gave her a cheeky grin.

That suspicious little squint didn’t go away, her lips pulled into a tight frown as he explained. Though, eventually, she did realise she was being silly. It’s not like she had much reason to think he’d do anything bad, especially in public. She eventually sighed, loosening the tension in her shoulders.

“Alright, fine. Maybe you can tell me about what you know while we’re getting the drinks then.”

She readjusted the strap on her backpack, before glancing to the front gate of the school.

“So, um, lead the way?”

Well that certainly convinced her. He was totally ready to just keep going too. Sazz gestured for Wednesday to follow him as he led the way. He was humming something fairly cheerful as the headed to get milkshakes. The shop itself was a fairly short distance away from the school. Once they were there Sazz ordered himself a strawberry smoothie, and grabbed them a table.

"So you wanna know what I know about magic..." he reached into his schoolbag and pulled out a notebook and slid it over to her. The contents were clearly notes from one of the magic classes at Starlight, but they were fairly extensive. Sazz then proceeded to go through basic tennants of magic, and several more advanced magic theory that you generally wouldn't get in a classroom. "So... do I pass the test?"
