Lucia flinched at the sudden contact. The demon touched her. It touched her. Her muscles tensed, shying away from his hand. It was a reflex she couldn't control, as much as she wished she could. She didn't want to be like that. She didn't want to shy away. She didn't want to be alone, not right now, not when it would've felt like being left to drown on her own. She couldn't be alone. Her body relaxed, and he was petting her.

It was strangely comforting. Cry it out, he said, and that’s what she did. She didn’t focus on how ugly it felt to expose herself like that in front of a practical stranger. Her worries were shedding with the tears and god, it felt good to let it out.

She had a lot to let out, but eventually the dam had to run dry. The sobbing subsided until she was left with what came after a good cryfest - heavy, shuddering breaths and a really stuffed up nose. She wiped her tears on the blanket. Still gasping, she managed to spit something out. "I'm - sorry," she said. She didn't like demons. One was sharing a room with her, and that scared her out of her mind. Before she saw him, she thought he would look like some sort of monster. She was scared of demons and she was actually, genuinely sorry about that. She was scared of this boy who, his whole life, had probably dealt with people fearing him just because he looked like a creepy lizard kid, and Lucia was one of those people. And she was not proud of it. And she was sorry.

Valentine didn't have enough clarity to be relieved, but if he did, he would have. That the girl hadn't pulled away completely. He wasn't one for contact, but he knew when someone probably needed the assurance of company. From his judgement, that's what all she needed at the moment.

There was only silence between them other than the sound of her sobbing. Valentine said nothing the whole time. It was quiet until she spoke, and Valentine still kept his silence for a while longer, just kept petting her until she calmed completely. She hadn't of course, the hiccups were still there from having cried so much that he could hear them clearly. He didn't have a response to it, quite honestly. The context was lost on him; he didn't know what she was really apologizing for.

"You don't have to be sorry for crying," he said instead, not knowing the meaning behind her words at all. "We're all just a bunch of emotions somewhere; being sad or scared isn't anything to be sorry for."

“For...h-huh,” Lucia mumbled, her speech punctuated by loud sniffling. She was vaguely aware that his words had little to do with what she actually meant, but mulling over the statement distracted her from that fact. Everyone did feel emotions. Lucia felt emotions. Emotions could be sad, but they were a good thing. Lucia was glad she felt emotions, because everyone had to feel them, of course. Though her mind was in no state to come up with any groundbreaking insight, she did agree with Valentine and found herself nodding along slowly.

“Yeah - yeah. Lots o-of emotions. Crying is good. That was, l-like, the third time today,” she stated. It was true; she had multiple other breakdowns already, in places where no one could see her and no one could help her. Maybe she should’ve gotten tired of all the self-pitying at this point. Maybe she already was tired of it, but it was the closest she could get to any kind of relief in this place. This time, though, she was grateful to get some comfort. It made her feel a little less lonely. “Thank y-you. For being here.” She rubbed her eye before glancing up at Valentine. “...Or should I say, fang you. H-heh.”

Was that offensive? Hopefully that wasn’t offensive.

All Valentine could offer back were nods. He didn't recall crying over the course of the day so he couldn't sympathize about it -- or since the entire virus ordeal started. He remembered being extrememly uncomfortable and very angry though. He barely ever got sick, and while his experiences of being sick were the terrible ones, he'd never had anything like the sort of bug he had now and it made him upset enough to turn his room over before he was brought into the quarantine. With some regrets after; but his destructive tendencies provided emotional comfort to him at the very least.

It could have been great. Valentine simply saying something along the lines of 'Hey, we're roomies, we're in this together. It's probably the least I could do' but in less comforting words before either just sitting there on the floor, his head resting on the girl's bed. Unfortunately, it wouldn't go that way. Yellowish green eyes stared almost emptily at Lucia; no movement -- just staring. Nothing but judgement oozing from reptilian eyes.

Valentine was sick and practically high from medication, but nothing would never get in the way how much he absolutely hated puns. Snake puns especially. "That was the worst I've heard in weeks," he said, his voice completely void of emotions. "How dare you expose my ears to madness?"
