"Ah, so you always look before you leap? No moments of faith?"
Asteria smiled, adjusting a few stray hairs before standing upright and beginning to pace around the room. Each step was slow, methodical, and the gentle tap of her shoes against the fancy tile flooring was almost rhythmic in its own unique way. She would continue to pace as she spoke, glancing at the man with a careful side glance in case he tried to do something while she paced.
"But yes, a story. Once upon a time, there were nine very special people; powerful entities among the average human who occasionally rallied together to help the world. Some called them 'divinely-touched', some believed they had made deals with monsters or were otherworldly. But the point was anything they did was heroic in some manner, something that would etch their names in the annals of history. Each had their quirks and unique skill sets, ranging from medicine to combat to things such as economics and farming."
She stopped for a moment, looking up at the ceiling. "But one of them was... less special than the others. She wasn't stronger than other humans, nor was she more intelligent or swifter. There were mages and clerics far more powerful than her magically, and she lacked the social appeal of any charming leader. She knew nothing of agriculture and finances, so why would she be included in this group of heroes? What made her special enough in the eyes of her fellow man that she had earned the right to stand among these gods?"
