At that, Evie was surprised to find herself blushing, a much more sheepish smile appearing on her face as she shrunk a little in her chair under that four-eyed gaze.

"I don't think anyone else who works for the school would tell me to be proud of all the crime I got up to." She snorted, trying to brush off her moment of embarrassment with jokes, as she often did. "Seems pretty irresponsible of you to encourage a young reprobate like me like that."

She had a small giggle to herself, before leaning back in her seat.

"You know, I...haven't actually told anyone on the island about that yet." She admitted. "Or the circus, at least not much anyway."

She had mentioned being part of the circus to a couple of people, but otherwise, she had explained very little about her past to anyone she'd met so far. She rubbed the back of her neck as she thought about it.

"You're kinda the only person who knows. Well, aside from the school, I guess..."

Aranea nodded. "That makes sense. There are people who wouldn't understand. But... don't feel like it's a black mark on you. You're not the only person who did some crimes before she came here. The pardon exists for a reason. Some people even put their illegal jobs from off island on their resume."

Aranea was still surprised by that, honestly. It felt like the kind of thing that took enormous brass balls to do - and they sometimes even got the jobs!

"And I don't think there's any shame in being in the circus. I actually wanted to run off and join a circus at one point. I'd have been great at it, too - I'm really acrobatic." Of course, Aranea grew up after having and discarding that dream. But the fact remained.

"Heh, betcha I could give you a run for your money." She smirked. "When you can make yourself weigh as much as your phone you can be hella acrobatic."

Even as Evie joked, there was a small twinge of sadness in her smile. She didn't feel ashamed of the circus, or the robberies, far from it. If she had the option she'd go right back to that life in a heartbeat.

But that wasn't an option, that wasn't her life anymore.

After a short moment, Evie slid her chair back and began to stand.

"I think I'd better head out. Gotta work off that sandwich so I can keep my girlish figure." She patted her chest. "Thanks for the food, and for, um..."

She glanced away, rubbing her neck.

"For like, y'know, being chill and not being weird about my um, meltdown."
