Founder's Day
This is the official event thread for the Founder's Day event.

No posting order. Rapid fire encouraged. Setting is City Hall, 5pm. Everyone is invited to come and join in the festivities.

Vito Rosales

Every active community volunteer knew that Founder's Day was one of the biggest holidays in the island. It was the island's birthday, the day the islanders celebrate the founding of Manta Carlos Islands. Streets held block parties. There was music, fireworks, food, and all around merry-making.

From a management perspective, it was an utter disaster. In between the gang and Founder's Day, he was up the wall with work. He had to put out fires everyday. It seemed like there was a new disaster every hour. We can't find the budget! The catering service canceled on us! Our singer won't make it in time for the show!

But by god's grace, he pulled it off. All the streets were accounted for. The fireworks were ready to be set off in a couple of hours, and short of going to the Pier yourself, City Hall had the best seats in the house. Cecil Lovette was performing on-stage until the fireworks went off, the buffet table was packed, he had committees around to prevent any disasters, and the room was filled to the brim with happy faces. Vito took a sip from his cup at the side, smiling proudly at his work. Another job well done.

Shay could have been taking the sights in, eating, or even playing with her friends (still a weird thing to say she had), but then the girl would have missed a fantastic opportunity to watch her father pull off an absolute miracle where management was involved.

She'd shadowed Vito all day, quiet as a mouse and taking everything in. Once it was all complete, exactly five pm on the dot, Shay relaxed too. It was two hours before the fireworks went off, wasn't it? She glanced at the sky expectantly before turning her attention to Vito.

"That was cool," Shay grinned. Listening to Cecil sing in the background, it wasn't as mesmerizing as it had once been to Shay. Was that what it was like once you got to know a star? All the mystery and excitement was gone? "I wonder where Alice and Theo are?" She scanned the crowd for them absentmindedly.

Vito offered a cup to Shay. He didn't normally approve of his children drinking soda, since it was essentially fizzy sugar and therefore the health equivalent of a bullet in the knee, but it was a special occasion and he was known to lighten up every once in a while.

He was very proud of her for her interest in management. Personally, Vito couldn't stand not knowing what happened in the background. It was the center of control. Shay would benefit in learning from that, and harnessing its power.

"I wouldn't call what I do very glamorous, but thank you. Someone has to do it." He patted her on the head gently. "Did you learn anything? Are you having fun? I like to think I threw a pretty spectacular party, if I may say so myself."

Shay was fine with the whole 'no soda' rule. For the most part, she'd gotten used to not drinking the stuff. She tended to enjoy iced or hot tea on any given day. She took the drink anyway and sipped it.

"Glamor is usually all flash and no substance. What you do is more important than that." Shay leaned into the affection. She'd found she liked physical affection more than words. Words could be so confusing. "I think so. You were calm for all of that." She tapped her chin, before sighing somewhat melodramatically. "Yeah, I'm having fun. I think I'll be meeting up with some friends to watch the fireworks at the pier if that's okay?

"I still can't believe you managed so much of this." Shay looked into her cup and swished the drink around.

Founder's day. Things were loud, excited, and colorful. Toby was here for mandatory local business contribution, and had been paired up with Cecil to handle his makeup and costumes. It made sense, seeing he already took on that job so much on a regular basis. He was seeing Cecil casually more and more, which was interesting with both his… stalker and fucktoy status. His awkward and blunt crushing likely didn't help. It was weird. He knew it was weird. That was how he was.

Cecil's break should be… now. The short, ferrety blond had just finished skittering about the buffet table, and even outside at some booths in the street, and scrambled back inside to get backstage, irritably flashing his identification at a guard and keeping his bag close to him. He wasn't supposed to be sneaking food. He wasn't supposed to do a lot of things, but that meant absolutely nothing to him, as long as he didn't get caught. It wasn't for his own sake, anyway. Another… gift. He ducked through the back area to look around for Cecil, cheeks a little pink.

"I wouldn't say more important. I think it's safe to say that it's more... tedious and thankless." Still, those were the jobs where he excelled in and found comfort in that. Seeing Shay enjoy herself, he placed a hand on her shoulder, pulling her closer. All in all, Vito was a doer not a talker, too.

"You thought I was calm?" He snickered. "Well. I'm getting better at hiding my temper, then."

He nodded at her question. "Of course. The view's best in the Pier, but I wouldn't expect good catering. And people use the ocean as a trash can way too much." Still, Shay needed alone time with her friends, away from her parents. She was a growing girl.

"Do you think you can handle this someday, or no?"

Cecil was being fussed over by a flurry of fans, security guards, and friendly bandmates. As lovely as all those people were, he was starting to get overstimulated with the constant attention. Why the hell did he need five people escorting him from the stage to his room? It was hardly five meters away!

When he caught sight of Toby in the hall, he grabbed him by the wrist and into the his room, shutting his door to the rest of them with a "that's great, I love all of you, I'll see you in half an hour! Thanks!"

He scrubbed his face as soon as they were gone, sighing. Cecil turned around and fiddled with the belt buckles of his annoyingly intricate shirt, gesturing to Toby for help. "Why do I have to look like I should be in a sex club on-stage? Help me with this!"

As soon as it was off, he breathed in relief, muttering a "thank fuck", and sat back down. He patted his lap with a grin. "C'mere."

Shay tittered, happy to be pulled closer to her new father. "Maybe calm was the wrong word. I just met you didn't seem worried. You were confident and in charge of the entire situation."

As much as Shay loved her new parents, she did long to spend alone time with her friends. It was an entirely new sensation, as she'd spent most of her life up until this point avoiding people and friendships. "Oh, we won't be worrying about food. If anything, Simon had treats he might be willing to share. We're all just excited to see the fireworks up close. For most of us, this is our first time enjoying the festivities."

The next question didn't even take Shay a moment to answer. "Yes." She was assured in her response. People kept telling her she reminded them of Vito, and if she were really like Vito, she could handle this. "Did you plan on me joining the committee when I'm older?"

It didn't take long until Toby was back into the overload of activity zone. This kind of thing agitated him, which added to his general creepy lurker behavior (and in turn, helped have people not fucking bother him), but at the same time, he was used to it. Annoying, yes, but it didn't screw with his brain wiring and make him lash out as much as it had when he was a kid. This was his job. He knew how to either block things out or scare people off when working with this crowd and world.

Being snagged and making an escape with Cecil was an easy improvement. He'd been ready to either say a few very inappropriate things, get snappy about his needing to sort out their star's costume and makeup without distractions, or both to shoo them off, but Cecil beat him to it and really just… made a run for it.

The man was clearly stressed. Toby immediately moved to rid him of what would be a scandalous shirt in normal settings, quick and familiar with it for multiple reasons. He made sure it was neatly put aside, then tilted his head to Cecil and blinked for a moment.

Toby bit his lip, then plopped down on the other's lap. "Hi, um." He was eager to nuzzle him, though immediately started messing with his bag. He opened it up and presented the food content to Cecil, mouth dry. "I didn't know what you liked, so I just kind of… got everything. You're hungry, right? You should eat."

Vito nodded. "The trick to that is visualizing your goal. Management is like a puzzle. If you have a picture in mind, it's just a matter of putting together the pieces, seeing where they fit." Of course, unlike puzzles, they were time sensitive and mistakes cost a lot of money. But that was a lesson for another day.

"Founder's Day is one of the biggest events of the year. I'm sure they'll be dazzled. The fireworks this year have enchantments that make them move in spectacular patterns." It was very... romantic. Vito had a soft spot for things like that, as much as he hated to admit it.

He smiled again, absolutely glowing with pride. "I won't, no. It's your decision. The committee isn't a paid job. It's just a way of giving back to the community. Is that something that interests you?"

Cecil Grey Lovette

Cecil placed his hands on Toby's waist, wondering what he was about to pull out. At the sight of food, his eyes practically twinkled with excitement, mouth watering. He reached out to grab literally the first sugar-free thing he could find and stuffed it in his face. "So good! Oh my god! I can have sex with this croissant right now. Did you know my mom didn't let me eat during breaks back when I was a kid? She said she didn't want me to feel sluggish and bloated. Hm. Better to starve your kid, I guess."

He kept the pastry between his teeth, hands steady on Toby's sides as he kicked off his godawful boots. "Fuck. That's like, an orgasm. Am I going to have worse shoes next? Two hours! I have another two hours of this shit! Vito's a goddamn slave driver. I better not have a leather top for my next performance. Is my eyeliner leaking right now? Can you fix that? I don't want to look like Latino Gerard Way," he said, mouth still full. He swallowed and laughed, giving the tip of Toby's nose a small peck.

He sighed, calming down after his sudden burst of chatter. His heartbeat went from a run to a jog. "Look at us. It's almost like I like you." He snickered, fingers under Toby's chin. Really, he hadn't seen him in almost a week, what with work piling on one after another. "I gotta admit, I missed your annoying mug."

Shay wished she had something to better occupy her hands. "I bet it'll be really beautiful. Fireworks are the best." A pause and Shay's eyes flicked up to meet Vito's. "When do you want me back?"

Shay didn't comment on the idea of management being a puzzle, but she did think about it. Shay had always enjoyed puzzles and other strategy games, and she thought she was pretty good at them, too.

"Yeah. I mean, I've never done any community work before." Shay blushed. "But you make it look nice." Shay would have said fun, had it been someone else she was talking to, but she didn't think Vito would appreciate the word choice.

"I wanna be like you when I'm older." Shay didn't look at him as she said this.
