No one had ever asked Havoc if he had stories before. It wasn't as if he was an older veteran who had served in an interesting war. He'd served with the rangers, and he'd been involved in wars, but there was nothing glamorous or terribly interesting about them. Stories only became interesting when things went wrong, and Havoc had gone out of his way to make sure they didn't.
"A few," Havoc admitted. "But I am unsure which would be considered appropriate for civilians." Some of them were confidential, and couldn't be shared either way, although plenty would be fine to share.
"But if you see a flaw in my plans, then yes, I'd like to hear it."

"O-Oh..." Em looked just a little disappointed and put off. "I... I d-don't know what those... Th-Those would be either... Sorry... B-But I'd love to hear them... S-Sometime... I-If you ever want to sh-share..."
She took another moment to glance between him and the fliar. She licked her lips as she pondered the best way to explain. "I'm... Worried a-about interest... L-Like with the e-elementary school thing... I d-don't think it's... I think It's more the ch-children don't w-want the office... S-So it might be difficult t-to b-bring them i-in... I-It's the same with the s-self-defence... Many p-people will jump at i-it I'm sure... B-But a lot w-won't think they need it... I d-don't think you should f-force them... B-But if you could sh-show them s-somehow... That might be an i-important step..."

Havoc spent some amount of time trying to figure out what stories to tell. He was a poor judge at what other people found interesting, and found that the stories which interested him were generally considered uninteresting at best.
"I will try and think of an appropriate and interesting story to share with you," Havoc said, although it seemed like a very tall order.
Her suggestion though... that was useful. Havoc paused before nodding, well aware that she had a lot of good points.
"I hadn't considered that it might be difficult to find an elementary school representative... maybe it should be an extra position added on, which wouldn't push out the existing ranks? I still feel strongly there should be some kind of representation to avoid college and high school students from drowning their needs out."
Havoc used feel strongly purely colloquially. It was just feeling strongly for him, but it wasn't terribly strong by anyone else's metric.
"But I had thought about getting people involved with self defense. Presenting it as a boon--normally you'd pay for classes but you're getting them for free--might help. People enjoy getting things for free. I would prefer to avoid alarming people by pointing out the crime statistics in the area, since they can be easily twisted to present a variety of viewpoints, but would rather focus on emphasizing that it has no significant downsides."

Emily smiled at him again, nodding a little. "Y-You don't have to... Put y-yourself out... I just thought you m-might have something you w-wanted to share..."
She shook her head his next point. "I-I don't think it's a-a bad idea... I just think th-that if your... G-Going to think about their interests... You sh-should think about th-them too... A specific e-elementary position might work... Maybe s-something less of a c-c-commitmant then a council seat th-though..."

It was a lot of good, solid information, and Havoc couldn't help but feel that the girl--whose name he still hadn't gotten--would make an excellent campaign advisor. Of all those he'd met, she was the one who had challenged his stances the most, even if it seemed that she did agree with him.
"I see," Havoc said. "Would you like to sit and discuss further, Miss...?"
Havoc couldn't help but feel a flicker of pride at that extremely basic maneuver. The idea of simply saying 'miss' and letting her fill in the blanks was something so basic that anyone would do it without realizing, but managing to pull it off felt like a real accomplishment to him.

"Oh... I-Im sorry... I haven't e-even in... I-Introduced myself... Have I..? M-My name is Emily..." Em found herself rather flustered now, forgetting such a simple thing. Her eyes glanced away from him, only to glance back up at him a moment later. She did this several times. "... A-And... I-I mean... I g-guess I can... I d-don't know if I have a-any more... P-Points though... D-D-Do you have q-questions..? O-Or something..?"

Emily? Was that a common name, or did he just have very strange luck?
"Emily...? One of the other candidates is also an Emily," Havoc pointed out, unaware if she was familiar with the other candidates.
"I would enjoy discussing things in further detail," Havoc noted. "You have good insight, but a long conversation in front of the library doors seems inappropriate. Perhaps we could sit down at the cafe?"
Havoc made a small gesture towards the libraries little cafe, which was thankfully rather empty now that exams were over.

"I-Is that so..? I wasn't aware o-of that..." That must have made things a tad strange for Havoc. It wasn't like she had control over such things as this, so she didn't dwell on it too much. "M-My last name is... Kirkpatrick... What w-was your name..? I don't think I-I got it earlier..."
Emily glanced over at the cafe, licking her lips a little as she fidgeted. "I... Yes... Th-That would be fine... I g-guess... If you w-want my h-help then... I'll s-see what I can d-do..."

"James Havoc," Havoc replied. "But since there was more than one James, I simply go by Havoc."
He of course meant in the military, but even on the island there was more than one James. His secret santa had also been a James, a source of no small amount of confusion.
Without further ado, Havoc led the way to the cafe, tucking his posters under his arm. He was genuinely of the impression that it would be a good idea to bounce ideas off Emily Kirkpatrick, and she didn't seem terribly bothered by his presence either. Perhaps it was a bit rude to simply take advantage of her kindness, but Havoc rarely thought in such terms, assuming that if she didn't want to, she'd simply say as much and be done with it.
Havoc waited until they were settled in at a little table before responding to her earlier comments.
"Perhaps something like an advisory role, nominated by the staff for each grade level? To represent, but not to make decisions. Not a true council position, but something along those lines." Havoc had always favored letting those in charge pick, but he understood that the school had a long history of elections.
"I think directing people to what happened on New Years might encourage people to take up self defense. Many people seem unaware of what happened, and the dangers that come from being without your powers."

Emily followed Havoc and sat down at the table. She glanced around for a few moments before turning her attention back to the man across from her.
"A-an advisory role might w-work... I think it w-would probably be best... I-If we had something th-they could cycle through... T-Take turns over the weeks maybe... They'd b-be less likely to get b-bored that way..."
"Th-That might work... R-Really it just needs to get them th-thinking about... H-How much of a crutch their p-power might be... Y-You shouldn't sc-scare them... B-But if you can make them wonder... I th-think you'll be m-more successful..."
