The sunlight from the low western horizon showered the room with orange, as Dominik circled his student like a predator about to strike at his prey. His eyes were slightly annoyed, slightly concerned, but they weren't on her, rather they were on the class record in his hands, which was opened to the page where his student's name and attendance record was.

Blank areas meant a student was absent for one period. And she had so many blank areas on her record.

"I don't like what I'm seeing here," he said, tapping on the paper. It was the very reason he had called this student here to his office, because he didn't like her lack of presence, and he wanted to have a one-on-one talk with her about it. "To be honest, it wouldn't hurt me not to care about this lousy attendance of yours but... I happen to like teaching." Dominik's deep red eyes now trailed towards her dark ones, stared at her, though he didn't mean this to be personal. "I'm alarmed. And I at least want to know why you're always absent. Give me a valid reason, and I'll let you off. If you don't," he shrugged, "We'll have to work on that."

This was a strange setting somehow. Dominik was young, and they looked almost at the same age, but he was a teacher and he had to be more adult than her here. His words were strict and solid, despite the natural smoothness and sweetness of his voice.

DJ hadn't spent time on the campus in so long she almost got lost on the way to his office.

The woman's hair was pulled back, dressed appropriate for the weather. As she looked into the teacher's face, she couldn't help but think that he wasn't old enough to be talking to her like this, before realizing that he was a teacher and he could basically talk to her however he wanted. It wasn't like the school was going to intervene as long as he didn't say anything insensitive.

Oddly enough it sounded like he was genuinely concerned. Like he'd called her to his office to actually talk rather that point fingers, fat and heavy with accusation, and spout words at her in a shower of spittle. She'd gotten that enough times when she first starting missing classes to be with Tevyntr. Even now, talking with this man was cutting into the time she usually spent with her son.

"Oh, were you not informed?" She asked, shifting her weight a little on her feet, letting one of her hips jut out to the side. DJ crossed her arms under her chest. "I thought that the school informed all of the professors about this sort of thing." A shrug. "Oh well."

The Brazilian woman took a deep breath. "I have other obligations." She said. "More important things to do."

"Obligation, you mean your son?" Dominik tilted his head to the side. "Yeah, I was informed. I know about him."

But while the instructor was properly answering the student, his eyes had suddenly acquired a sharp look to it, and it dug into DJ's. He didn't like her tone; it sounded as if her being here was nonsense and it mocked Dominik. He went in front of her, stared into her eyes for a few more seconds, before turning around to his desk and setting the record down.

"...DJ, I understand you can be quite busy with your son, and believe me, if I were you I'd rather be with the little boy as well, but..." He turned back to her, and while his face was back to its calm look, the dagger-like stare did not disappear. "What's keeping me puzzled here is... Why would you enroll yourself in a class if you're not going to attend anyway?"

Whatever genuine concern he had a while ago was starting to fade away, and left only the "alarmed" part. It wasn't as gentle.

"I suggest you drop this class. As soon as possible. Unless you're confident you'll ace all the tests and praticums, including the finals."

He crossed his arms over his chest as well, mirroring his problem student intently.

Feeling the man's eyes boring into her did not feel good. It felt the opposite of good, actually, and she would rather him stop looking at her like that. Admittedly he made a good point. It might not make sense for her to keep enrolling in classes at the school knowing that she wouldn't be able to come to them most of the time, not while her little son kept her busy, seeing as he wasn't quite old enough for school himself.

But there was something keeping her enrolling in classes.

"If I don't enroll in a few classes, I lose my student status." She said, her voice as clear as she could while explaining herself. Now that she seemed to understand her professor's stance a little better, her attitude dropped a few notches and she let her stance become less stiff.

Less confrontational, even as he looked at her with sharp eyes. "And if I lose my student status, I'll lose my allowance from the school as well."

DJ took a few steps forward and sat opposite Dominik at his desk. "I'm sorry my absences concern you, but I won't be dropping your class. Because I am confident that I can pass everything."

The woman gestured to the record. "There are a lot of blanks, but I do very well in the class when I do attend, you see."

He understood her, right there and then when she mentioned her student status. Dominik's expression softened. She didn't need to explain anymore, although she did, because he knew the privileges students had and it was true, it would be better for her not to lose that.

"I see," he simply nodded. An amused grin tugged at his lips for her confidence, and he raised a brow and crooked his head at her in the same fashion. "I'll take your word then. We'll just see how your tests go. But."

He went behind his desk but did not sit down. Instead he leaned forward, supporting his weight with his hands on its desk.

"I still need to punish you for your absences. How about a quick match? Hand to hand, three rounds. I want you to be able to beat me."

As the room was bathed in orange, DJ exhaled, almost seeming relieved. Admittedly, she'd been worried. The academy had any number of accommodations, any number of ways to make sure all its students were taking care of. Yet still she always worried that she would end up with that one teacher with no interest in that, who only cared about attendance and grades.

She was about to stand and grab her coat, get ready to go home and make her son something to eat when the sound of Dom's voice made her stop.

Punish her for her absences?

It occurred to her that she had no reason to accept his 'punishment' deal. There was nothing that he could do to her. And she could probably even take this up with the school board.

Yet something about it was interesting. There was no harm in it, it wasn't like he would actually try in earnest to hurt her, and if he did she had training bringing her fists to a knife fight.

"Sure," she said, grinning and rolling up her sleeves. "Let's see you punish me."

DJ rotated her shoulders and started stretching to warm up. "Are we sparring to a down?"
