Nat's smile spread, she leaned in further to match Vivienne. Looks like she had her attention, now it was time to get to business.

"If detectives and journalists have one thing in common, its that we work much better when we have reliable sources of information." She continued, a sharp nail idly circling the rim of her coffee cup as she spoke. "I propose that you and I establish a, let's call it a mutually beneficial working relationship. I hear a lot of things in my line of work, from a lot of people, and some of those could be particularly interesting to a police detective."

She sipped her drink again, eyes full of confidence as she spoke.

"The DCA case is enough to prove I'm capable, but I have no intention of stopping there. I'm gonna be digging for more stories, and when I find anything that's relevant to your work, you'll be the first person to know, even before my editor."

"In return, all I want from you is to repay me in kind." She rested back in her seat, thinking it was best to be upfront about what she wanted to gain here. "If you find something I can write about. I want to be the first person you talk to. Before the print, before the TV channels, before anyone else. Even if it's just a tip-off that get's me to a situation first, I'll take anything."

She grabbed her laptop and slid it to the centre of the table.

"And just to sweeten the deal, I'll give you a sneak-peek on my next big scoop." She winked. "Just to show you that I'm not all talk right now."

Viviane wasn't big on recieving help but she also wasn't an idiot. She knew her limits and knew that eventually she would run into problems that she wouldn't be able to simply solve by herself.

This was Nat's play, the reason they were both here. Viviane's grin only grew bigger as Nat continued to speak.

"So..." Viviane picked up her latte to take a sip from the straw. "You want an in, and you came to me instead of another experienced detective because I am new to the job and has the cards stacked me and a lot to prove." She placed her drink down and stared directly at Nat's face, watching for any subtle facial movement. "I mean, that would be the smartest play if I was in your position."

It was clear Viviane was enjoying this, trying to figure out Nat and dissecting what she said. Viviane still felt like there was still more to this or maybe that was just wishful thinking. "It would also be smart to actually have valuable or interesting information ready to share to convince the detective even further that working together is a good idea rather than relying on past accomplishments." Viviane then gestured to the laptop. Which she definitely wanted to take a peek in.

"Tell me if I'm wrong." She said blatantly, she was sure this was most likely the case but she definitely wanted to hear if it wasn't. "It's a good play, I respect it. You got your in."

Nat simply leaned back, raising her hands and shoulders with a sly shake of her head.

"Please, detective," The title rolled off her tongue playfully. "You almost make it sound like I'm using you. But, you aren't wrong, I did pick you for a reason and I have plenty to gain from this."

She flashed her teeth. She'd been prepared to upsell her offer much more, but if Viviane was already on board, well, there was no need to be coy.

"It seems I don't have to explain much further, though, I think you've broken down all the important details."

She rose briefly from her seat and offered a hand.

"I'm looking forward to working with you, detective. Still interested in that sneak peek?"

Viviane only smiled at Nat. She definitely had a feeling that might be the case but she was willing to give Nat the benefit of doubt. "Well I can't help calling that out. Let's just say....it is an acquired expectation. I suppose time will tell."

"I look forward into seeing how our new found partnership goes from here."
Viviane got up to give Nat a firm handshake and then sat back down.
Now that all the formalities was over with she was way more interested in what was exactly in that laptop. All sorts of ideas started racing to her mind from the very basic crime to bigger and wilder shit. Viviane kept herself restrained but it was clear she was excited. She didn't want to appear to eager or excited plus they were in a public setting. Her going crazed conspiracy theorist mode would probably not be a good look here.

She simply tapped her nails against the table and waited patiently. "Of course I'm interested. What sort of dirty little secrets you got hidden in that laptop?"

With a wide grin, Nat sat back down, leg crossed in front of the other again.

"Have you ever visited the House of Volkov? It's a nice place, very classy atmosphere and the drinks are well worth the price alone."

She spun her laptop around to face Viviane and flipped it open, revealing the screen to her.

"Not a lot of people realise this, but the owners of that particular restaurant allegedly have their fingers in a bunch of less-than-legitimate business off the island. No one's been able to pin them down for anything yet, but now that they're here on the island...well, I'm willing to bet they're peddling more than just vodka."

The laptop had most of her research open for her to look at, mostly rumours she'd written down, but also a few articles gathered from sources off the island itself. There wasn't anything in there that was fully concrete, seems like they've managed to avoid getting caught red-handed so far, but the list of potential crimes ranged from drug trafficking to things much worse.

"I haven't managed to dig up anything yet," She continued, "But I know there's gotta be some dirt they're up to on the island, and I'm gonna find out."

"The House of Volkov? No, I don't believe I have ever heard of it before."

Viviane read over the things that Natalie was showing her. There was a lot of interesting things but it was clear that it wasn't any solid evidence or anything that could really connect it all together. It was just rumors and hunches. A mystery.
"So you think they are using their business as a front to transport goods around and probably off island, among other things?"

If they were doing things off island then Viviane assumed there was a good chance that probably had been affected by the Veil nonsense. They would basically need a dimension hopper to get things moving on and off the island.
"Do you know who is in charge of the House of Volkov?"

"Why yes, actually."

Nat reached over to flick to another page, showing a picture of a man.

"Malakias Volkov. Apparently he's the son of the big man in charge of the whole family. Quite charming in person, it turns out."

Nat leaned back in her chair again, letting Viviane look over everything at her own pace.

"With as big as the Volkov family seems to be off-island, I think it's pretty unlikely the head of the family would send his own son all the way here just to run a restaurant. There's gotta be something more to it."

Viviane was absorbing all of this information as quickly as it came to her. She was making mental notes of the things she saw and the names associated with what was going on. She leaned in a bit closer to get a good look at this Malakias fellow. "So possibly a family business then. Interesting."

A family business wouldn't be so far fetched. It would explain why they haven't been caught yet. It's easier to organize family than it would be just a group full of people with big egos or something similar to a gang, unless that gang had a good cause. "Is there any other Volkovs who may be of interest? Anyone who is also connected to The House? I say we first should figure out if this is indeed something being kept in the family or it's just little Malakias here doing his own thing."

"There's a few other's I've met personally."

She flicked to another pair of pictures, one of a young woman, and the other of an older man.

"The girl is Rada, Malkias' sister. She works in the kitchens. The other is his uncle Cazimir, he handles the accounting."

She frowns briefly.

"I was looking into the both of them to try and get dirt on the main family, but unfortunately both those trails ran cold. Still, if other members of the family are here we can assume Malakias is still linked somehow."

Viviane frowned a bit at what Nat said. A cold trail was never a good thing to have in a active investigation. As it seems, all they really had was rumors and rumors are worth nothing unless they hold some actual weight behind them. "Rada and Cazimir? Well if you believe focusing on them will be a waste of time then we will move on from that. I do think keeping an eye out for Cazimir is a good idea. If he is handling legal side of the money there is a good chance he might be handling the illegal side of it as well."

Viviane picked up her drink and finished the rest of it off. This was honestly going way better than what Viviane initially expected. "Is there any other info that is safe to share in public?"
