Nat sat near the window of the cafe, sipping her coffee while she typed into her laptop, mostly doing work to keep herself busy as she waited for her guest.

Nat had, for the most part, been taking it easy ever since the whole situation at the Dark Crystal Academy. Being one of the first people to break the story regarding its reappearance and the newly discovered Death of Magic, she'd found herself getting a lot of attention reporting on the facts as they came. It was, by far, the biggest story of her career, and she was sure to capitalise on any opportunity that followed.

But, Nat wasn't the kind of person to coast on one success forever (even if she did so enjoy it), and especially now that the public was starting to settle back into its usual routines, she thought it was time to start looking around for her next scoop.

She wasn't going to settle for the small stuff though, she wanted another big story. And for that, she needed new contacts.

The messaged she'd sent to the newly minted detective Leclair was a simple one. Just a request to meet and share a drink, the offer to exchange information wasn't stated, but it was implied. She'd hoped her new clout would at least get her an audience, the rest was still up for discussion.

Viviane wasn't sure why she was contacted for a meeting but she could assume a few things just based off the text. After looking a bit into who sent her the text, Viviane decided to go along with the meeting. She didn't have any good reason on not to go to this meeting but did believe that having good relations with one of the many news outlets on the island was something that the MCPD should have.
After she was done for the day at work, Viviane went home for a change of more casual clothing before heading out to the cafe. She figured being more casual would make the meeting feel less like a job meeting and just more of a casual thing. It was just going to be coffee and some chatting.

Viviane arrived to the cafe just on time. It didn't take long for her to spot the journalist who she was meeting with and made her way over to the table to the table. "Is it safe to assume that you are Natalie Kurono?"

Her catlike ears twitched as soon as she heard her step into the cafe, a smile crossing her face as she stood up to greet the detective.

"And you must be Viviane Leclair," She tilted her head in greeting and offered a handshake. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

She was all smiles, posture open and inviting, though it was easy to tell that Nat's amber eyes were sizing the detective up as she spoke. She gave her a moment to respond, or take her hand, then sat back down, one leg crossed over the other.

"Please, sit down. Would you like something to drink?"

There was business to discuss of course, but she figured it'd be best to get comfortable and maintain that casual feel for a while first. It was a nice cafe, after all, it'd be a shame not to enjoy the atmosphere.

"And a pleasure to meet you aswell." After shaking Nat's hand, Viviane took a seat at the table with her. So far things were going smoothly. Viviane was able to relax a bit. She wasn't at work so she didn't have to worry to much about things getting stressful here.

"Well it would be rude for me to not get a drink." Viviane took a glance at the café's menu and quickly skimmed through the drinks. "I wouldn't mind going for a iced caramel latte. I did just leave work afterall." After waiting for her drink to be ordered, Viviane repositioned herself in her seat as she crossed her legs. "So you how are you Natalie? Is the journalism business going well for you?"

"Good choice."

Nat waved down the nearest waitress, ordering the drink, then taking a sip of her own as she went off to get it. She closed her laptop, sliding it aside before resting her arms on the table.

"Oh it's been going very well," She said with a catlike grin. "I'm sure you've read my articles regarding the exploration of the DCA? Since I was one of the first people to find the old academy I've been asked by a lot of publications to cover everything that's been happening as a result of its return."

She really can't help but brag, its obvious from her excited tone and the way her eyes light up that the whole story is something she's very proud of.

But it was a calculated move too. She wanted to seem competent.

"But, well, I didn't invite you here just to talk your ears off," She said with a small chuckle. "I'm much more interested in you."

She leaned forward a little, curious look in her eye.

"Congratulations on making detective. How's it feel?"

"Yes. I am familiar with you articles about Dark Crystal Academy. They were an interesting read. It was probably the biggest thing to happen since...." Viviane thought for a few moments as she tried to recall all the stuff that happened on the island before. The more she thought about the more she realized just how big the DCA story was compared to everything else. "Holmes."

Viviane's deamonor subtly changed the moment Nat stated she was more interested in her and then congratulated her on making detective. "Ah, well thanks."

"At the moment it feels like I am being a bit...." Viviane stopped herself from saying anything that might come out the wrong way. "Let's just say despite making detective I still feel like I have to validate myself. All the senior detectives usually handle the big stuff while I get left with the scraps."

"Ugh, tell me about it." She rolled her eyes. "I had similar experiences back when I was first starting out. I was stuck writing puff pieces for the Print for months before I finally got to write something with substance. It's part of why I split from them ages ago."

She took a sip from her drink, another little sparkle in her eye as she watched her over the brim of her cup. Looks like she might have an in.

"You know," She continued, putting down the cup and clasping her hands together, resting them on the table. "If you want people to take you seriously, sometimes you have to bring them something yourself, rather than just wait for them to drop the scraps on your desk. It's certainly how it was for me."

"I know that." Viviane stated. She liked Nat's thinking but there were a lot of problems that needed to be known with going that route.

"There aren't a lot of things I can just bring in myself which makes things tricky." Viviane stared of briefly before refocusing her attention back onto Nat. "For me it's like running a race while being chained to a heavy weight ball." She was sure someone as Nat was aware of her. . . affliction. The story of a mage of the great LeClaire family being born with no ability to use magic made it's rounds here and there some time ago. "Also as it stands, if anything big happens the entire island knows. At that point it's me competeting with the rest of the department and any concerned stand up citizens who will take things in their own hands. Case in point, the investigation of the dopplegangers and the discovery of DCA."

"And no, I'm not complaining. I actually like the challenges I have to deal with. It makes things more exciting for me. I guess it's more about overcoming unbeatable odds." Aaaaand proving certain people wrong, something she like making a point in doing whenever she got the chance.

Nat knew the gist of the situation without Viviane needing to explain, she liked to do her own research on her subjects, after all, and the family were prominent enough for her to find what she needed.

"No wonder you made detective," She said with a wry smile. "I'm sure that drive of yours certainly helped you make progress."

"But, you have a point. There's definitely a lot of factors working against you here. I suppose if you can't rely on the supernatural angle, you'll need another way to get an edge."

Her grin spread.

"I think I can help you out there."

"Oh? Did I hear that correctly? You said you think you can help me there?" It was clear Nat had fully captured Viviane's attention. Viviane didn't even bother to thank waitress when she came back with her drink. She clapsed her hands together and leaned forward a bit towards Nat.

Viviane was very interested in hearing this "pitch" that she assumed Nat was trying to sell her on. She could probably guess on what she was thinking but she prefered seeing things just play out a bit. "And how exactly would you be able to help me Ms. Kurono? What will help me get an edge over my fellow supernatural powered co-workers?"
