They both seemed a bit awkward. That was fine with Naoko--she'd dealt with worse. So much worse. She dealt with this kind of awkwardness on a daily basis, and she was no stranger to bridging the gap, turning her head towards the boy who was lurking nearby and effectively dragging him into the conversation.
"Are you new to the island too, then?" She asked, making sure it was clear just who she was talking to.

Jake realised that the girl was speaking to him. "Well, about three months now. So, new-ish." Was that classed as new? After what length of time in a place did you lose the title of new? The other guy he had seen around but never really stopped to have a conversation with him; Jake was pretty sure he was in the same year as him.
"So, have both of ya been here long?" he asked. The girl didn't look much older than him but he hadn't seen her before. Though, he was convinced she didn't like him. She seemed to look at him in disapproval but that wasn't the emotion he was sensing. Either she was like Liz and could control her emotions with her mind or she just always looked angry.

"Anyways.....I'm James," he introduced himself to Jake. He looked between the two, his own shyness and the growing headache making him uncertain what to say. "Gods this is dull!" the shouted shouted into his skull. James focused his thoughts trying to get the Shadow calm down, it wouldn't work, but he'd try.
"So....how'd you guys get into movies," he remembered how him and a few of the other orphan thieves would sneak into theaters occasionally. Though Garret was never pleased about that.

Three months was definitely new. Up to a year was new, but three months was really new.
"I was born here," Naoko said, perfectly pleasant despite her perpetual frown. She liked that she was, liked that it made her different when she was normal in every other way. "I always liked watching movies with my parents, and it seemed kind of silly there wasn't a film club for the school. Showing movies is the sort of thing normal schools in the mundane world, so why not us?"
Naoko didn't know all that much about the mundane world, to say the least.

"Nice to meet ya. Jake." he introduced himself. James seemed nice enough but there was something off about him. It was as though his emotions were conflicting with each other, shy yet a hint of irritation and anger with boredom. Jake had never met someone with schizophrenia, but he imagined this would be what he would sense from them.
He realised he was staring at him, not listening to what he asked. "Erm .... yeah," he tried to say with certainty; most questions were either yes or no so there was a good chance that that answer was acceptable.

"I didn't go to school before I came here, I wouldn't really know," he said calming down a bit. The Shadow had quieted down to just rumblings and James was a bit more comfortable around the others. "I always liked watching them," they were a good distraction from what had been a hard life.
As he calmed, a single small shadow tentacle appeared on his shoulder. It was an odd thing that tended to happen, the tentacle didn't do much, just slowly swayed back and forth.

Jake seemed... weird. Not weird by Manta Carlos standards, but somehow distracted or put off. Naoko didn't think she'd done anything, and it didn't seem like James had done anything either, so she was a bit at a loss.
"Oh," Naoko said, frowning slightly more than usual. "So wait, did neither of you go to school before? Is that why this is all awkward or something?"
Naoko blinked at the appearance of a small tentacle on James's shoulder, but after a moment simply disregarded it. She had been born on Manta Carlos, and it was going to take a hell of a lot more then a small shadow thing to weird her out.

Jake stared at the tentacle on Jame's shoulder. A few months ago, this kind of thing would have freaked him out but now, it was pretty normal for him. Deciding not to question it, he turned back to the girl. "Oh, no. I went to school, you just ... had to be careful what you said back home." The idea of that place made the room feel colder to Jake, he was never happy there - so much hate, anger, violence. In fact, before the island, he'd never felt like he belonged. "Anyway, ya never told me your name," he said to the girl.

"Y-yea," he said taking a small breath steadying his nerves from the Shadow's continued shouting. "Its uh.....taking some adjusting, lots of catch up classes." James had a sharp mind and learned quickly, but he still struggled with the classes.
The Shadow continued to grumble and complain, at this point James noticed the tentacle, focusing he made it vanish. "Sorry....about that," he said relieved that neither if them reacted badly.
Ravina didn't know much about movies (or people, for that matter). Back on the islets, she only had old movies. The kind that were black and white, and she rarely got to watch those. Generally during Summer, when her and pap came back to land for an extended period of time.
The little girl popped her head into the room and peeked around to see if the movie had already begun.
