Naoko had wanted something good to watch. Something big and grand. But it was hard to find movies that were appropriate for everyone, and it had taken a bit of negotiating to talk the staff into letting a PG-13 movie go by. It wasn't like they were checking ID, but they weren't letting any kids wander in without a parent, either.
Naoko was in her element. She loved movies, and she loved Disney, and the new Jungle Book--live action, of course--was well reviewed. Plus, it had enough weird fantasy elements that it seemed like the sort of thing people would like to talk about. Talking animals were weirdly fantasy in the mundane world, but in Manta Carlos that was just your neighbor.
Naoko had managed to get permission to use one of the small theaters, with more room then they were likely to use. She wasn't crazy enough to think they were going to get a hundred kids, but she was hoping for at least a bit of a turnout.
She'd taken up position by the door, mentally counting down the minutes until they were supposed to start as students trickled in.

The Shadow grumbled but calmed down, at least until James finally came to theatre. He gave a small smile to Naoko, "hi....hope I'm not late," he said a bit shyly. He was still adjusting to being social, it hasn't been easy on him. "I....I'm James Mortii," he had just recently joined the club.

Naoko recognized the name James, even though it was a common one. A James had just signed up to the club, and while she didn't really remember the last name attached to that James, it stood to reason it was the same one, right?
Naoko beamed at him, delighted to have a member show up. Everyone who had shown up so far were simply there for the movie and not terribly interested in the club as a whole.
"You just joined, right?" She asked, sticking her hand out for a shake. Maybe it was a bit too formal, but she wanted him to feel welcome, right?
"Naoko Tanaka," she introduced. "I'm the president, I organized this. You're in highschool, I guess?"

"It's a pleasure to meet you," he said a bit more comfortable now, she seemed nice, and he tended to ease up faster when talking to kids his own age. "Yea I'm a Sophomore," it was still strange actually getting to go to school.
"BOY THIS IS POINTLESS, YOU CAN WATCH THESE THINGS AT HOME," he ignored the Shadow, it knew that it wasn't about the movies, it was about James being social, trying to get to know a few other people.
"Thank you....for setting all this up," he said, honestly grateful. James had grown upon with absolutely nothing, so he tended to be grateful for pretty much everything.

Naoko remained blissfully ignorant to the conversation going on inside James's head, waving off his thanks casually.
"It's what the club's for," she pointed out. "If we weren't watching movies, what would be the point? I'm just hoping the movie is as good as everyone says--I haven't actually watched it before."
It might have been a bit selfish, but Naoko wanted to enjoy the movie as much as everyone else, and she tended to enjoy it a lot less if she'd already seen the movie.
"Are you new to the island, then?" She asked, guessing both based on experience and based on the fact that he'd mentioned looking for a club.

Jake loved movies. He often had no money because he would spend his weekly allowance on going to the cinema. It was a way of escaping the crappy life at the care home and explore some other world or experience things that would never happen in his wildest dreams.
Though he had already seen The Jungle Book, he decided to join the club anyway; it would be another opportunity for him to make friends. Yes he already had a couple, but it would be nice to have someone to talk to that was his age, actually seemed to like him or not run around burning things. Plus, it was another way of procrastinating doing homework.
Jake walked through the door to the small theatre. "I'm not late am I?" he asked.

"Kind of......I've been here about six months," gods six months and he seemed to have made so little progress. "I just...," he shrugged, "don't know.....took me a while to pick something," and a part of him had been a bit scared of it.
He smiled and waved as Jake appeared, "nope, not yet."

Naoko glanced over when the door opened, giving a small wave to the unfamiliar face. There were enough people on the listing that she couldn't just guess who anyone was, but he had to be one of the members.
"Won't start for a bit!" Naoko said, glancing back to James.
"I don't know, six months still pretty new. I consider anyone who hasn't been on the island for a whole year to be new, but I'm pretty biased." She'd been born and raised there, and she'd seen a lot of new people. Normally it took a few months for people to get used to things that she took for granted, so she wasn't going to fault them for it.

"Oh good," he said, standing in the doorway. Jake didn't know whether to sit down with the rest - he didn't know anyone there - or to stay and talk to the two people by the door, but they seemed to be in the middle of a conversation so he didn't want to interrupt. Deciding it would be best to clear the doorway, he stayed to the side of the room, not sitting or talking, just leaning against the wall.
Why was he so awkward? Trying to start a conversation in his care home wouldn't last very long and usually resulted to a fist to the face, but this place wasn't like that and he knew it. Still, he hid from any social interaction.

The Shadow grumbled a bit, but remained silent, just watching the exchange, "I'm still....I....adjusting to everything." In his mind he was doing terrible, just utterly failing at this social thing.
"BORED!" the Shadow screamed into his head. He ignored it best he could, but he flinched slightly. It felt like an actual scream in his head. "B-but..yea...the island is great," he said trying to cover his discomfort up, happy no one could hear the Shadow.
