It happened a few days ago; it was right after he dismissed his class-- they had done a short lecture and some laboratory activities that day-- that Alaude was stopped by a student who requested for an extra meeting. While Alaude wasn't the friendliest instructor, this request had actually managed to put a smile to his face, and he was more than pleased to grant the request. It wasn't any bother, after all. He had a consultation schedule for students, and he was being paid for that. So he scheduled their lesson in those available hours.

He waited in one of their laboratories in the tech and engineering building. Here, they'd have most equipment they'd need, though Alaude still decided to bring his own box of spare parts and tools in case his student needed them. There were also unused machines lying around the room, which students can freely deconstruct and put together again by themselves.

The entire room looked more like a workshop than a tech "laboratory", though. There were stains and dusts and it seemed as if cleaning the room everyday was effort made in vain. So Alaude wore his working clothes, too, and didn't care if he got dust and grease on his pants even when he sat on one of the tables while waiting.

There was a set of perked ears and a wagging tail as Hans walked into the laboratory, a rather large toolbox filled with all manner of hand tool that jostled with each step perched on his shoulder. A few days ago, the fox had asked his professor for some extra lessons outside of class, and set an appointment during office hours. It was rare for a course to hold Hans's interest for more than a few weeks; this one was certainly on that list.

The "lab", if it could even be called that, looked more like his own workshop on the edge of town rather than a science lab; dust and grease were the norm, and tools laid strewn around in an organised chaos, put down right where they were when class was over... So much for safety regulations.

"Guten tag, Herr Cross!" the fox said as walked over to the table where his professor was waiting, setting the tool box down with a thud, "I, uh, hope you don't mind, but I brought my own tools."

The fox student finally arrived after a few moments; just in time before Alaude got bored and might have thought of leaving. When his student did arrive, the instructor nodded at his greeting and hopped off the table. He didn't expect to hear German; he was, after all, used to English; used to being in England. "Yes. Hi." He eyed the student's tool box, but his stare despite being usually cold was approving this time. "No, I don't mind at all. It's always better to have your own tools, after all. So..."

Alaude also went to fetch his own tool box, setting it on a table. And then he paused, in thought, and turned to his student one more time. "Before anything else, I'd like to hear what sort of tinkering you like doing, what you've already tried doing, and what you'd perhaps want me to teach you today, if you have a certain request. Also... I'm terribly sorry. I'm not good with names. What shall I call you?"

He remembered at the very least that the fox's full name, based from the documents, was quite long and complicated. It was the very reason he couldn't remember what it was exactly.

The fox gave a curious glance over to his instructor as he opened his own toolbox; while a bit hurt that his teacher didn't take the time to remember his name, it was understandable since they had quite a few students to pay attention to.

"Call me Hans, bitte sehr." he muttered as he returned his gaze to his open box of tools; screw drivers and wrenches of all sorts, check... hand drill and bits, check... hammers, mallets and files, check... Everything seemed in order...

"Now, uh, I tend to design and build things from scratch more than tinker with things that have already been built," Hans said, "usually along the lines of engines, cuckoo clocks; intricate things, really... occasionally I do build firearms or simple hydraulics systems."

"Hans," Alaude repeated. "Alright." He took a peek when he noticed his student also scanning the said tool box. He listened, and at the same time began thinking of what kind of project they can start. Technically, he had already prepared a few, but he had to choose among them after knowing his student's level and preference, which he was only able to do just now.

"We could try to come up with some kind of firearm today," he finally decided, looking at his own tool box to check if he brought the right materials and tools. They would do, especially if Hans was really as capable in building things from scratch as he said he was.

Alaude brought out a metal rod, some springs, more metals, screws, and the needed tools. And then he took a folded paper tucked in one side of the tool box and unfolded it. It was a blueprint for an actual gun, an old one for a unique pistol he designed long ago. It was the simplest among his designs, and it only needed minor adjustments and alterations if they were going to try to build a real thing using only the materials they had with them at the moment. And still the pistol's design would most likely have something more advanced for Hans than anything they've tackled in class so far.

Alaude handed it to Hans. "What do you think?"
