Gabe smiled. "It's a little jarring yet kinda funny to know that your father is enjoying running a simple restaurant after having the reputation he did once upon a time. But it's good to know that we can all settle in properly after having to flee from Halcyon and everything." He felt a small shiver run down his spine from a small breeze but he kept his gaze focused on Angelo.

"Oh? What did you plan on doing once you've 'retired'? Are you just gonna do the family business thing like I'm doing? Or are you looking for something more?" He let out a small hum, watching Angelo's reaction carefully. Despite the two having dated previously, Gabe always felt like he could never really read Angelo. Maybe he was bad at it? Gabe couldn't help but wonder what went on in the other man's head half the time because it always felt... distant to him. It felt like Angelo was the ultimate locked door and Gabe could struggle and struggle but never get it to open up in the right way.

ANGELO GENOVESE

Angelo didn't quite agree, but he supposed Gabe wouldn't have any reason to think otherwise. He knew Basilio as he presented himself, and no matter how Angelo tried to tell people that his dad had always been a good person... well, they tended to think he was exaggerating for the sake of his father.

Whatever evidence had once existed was long gone, and in the end it didn't really matter.

"No idea," Angelo said with a shrug. "Family business maybe. But I haven't given it that much thought. I kind of want to... get the teen hero urges out first before I think about it." Any time he tried to think about it otherwise he just ended up looping back around to wanting to make a different.

The trick with reading Angelo was simple: Angelo had spent more or less his entire life hiding small bits about himself, and that meant he was very good at lying. For him, it was mostly a matter of being fairly open about the vast majority of things, and using that as cover.

Right then? Right then Angelo felt mostly okay. He didn't know how he felt, which meant there wasn't anything to read: just a confused muddle.

Gabe nodded. "I guess that makes sense. I didn't have the uh... heroic tendencies so I wouldn't get the feeling so much. But if that's what it takes to get you to whatever step you're looking for, I'm glad. Honestly, I'm a little jealous that you've found such a good purpose to work on. I never feel like I do enough, you know? But, maybe that's just... growing up. Or some other cliche teen movie moral crap."

He laughs, reaching into his pocket to pull out his phone. Looking at the time, he lets out a small sigh and puts it back. He'd have to get ready to deal with some work at the shop soon, so he knew he wasn't going to be able to stay much longer. "I gotta head back to the shop here, but uh... I'll see you around? ...We're still friends, right? That's a thing? Being friends with your ex?"

He went to hold out his hand for another handshake to Angelo, then thought better of it. He opened his arms, albeit somewhat awkwardly, to give his friend a hug.

Angelo cracked a smile at Gabe, and when he offered a hug went for it, giving him a tight squeeze before stepping back.

"We're still friends," he said firmly. "Friends with your ex is still a thing, and it's not like we broke up because someone as an ass. So stay in touch, alright? Even if I'm the one who should be spending more time staying in touch, because I keep having to go off island for work, and it's a whole... thing."

He kept busy, to say the least.

"I'll see you around, Gabe!"
