The friendly gesture of a hand on his shoulder somehow made Hal feel a little more welcomed. It didn't occur to him either that she went unharmed from the contact but it was probably because he wasn't being aggressive at that point.

Hal shifted a bit to the side and allowed Claire to sit next to him and give him a pat on the shoulder. He was not quite used to that gesture, but it wasn't like it was bad. It was quite comforting.

'But now you have to put up with me'

"I should say the same for you," Hal said, joining her laughter, "You have to put up with me too, you know." he added, leaning his body forward. "So what, do you mean I have to break into song about the magic of friendship?" he said with a laugh.

Feeling better that he hadn't rejected her gesture, she felt better knowing that they were on equal terms again. No fighting. No assumptions. A clean slate. It felt nice to her to be able to start over again with him, as with all people, she had gotten off on the wrong foot with him. Tilting her head lightly as she wondered as to what he meant, as he didn't seem like the person that would cause Claire any worries or discomfort.

Looking at him with a scowl as he said that he should maybe break out into dancing and singing, she swung her foot around to hit his lower leg, hard. "That would be, very stupid. A very stupid idea." She smiled and laughed calmly, realizing that the boy had already made her laugh. "Well there is something accomplished. Making me laugh isn't easy. You might get a lot further than friendship if you keep this up." Biting her lip on the left side, she didn't regret what she had said, but she had mostly said it to see his reaction. Giving herself one last small giggle, she sprung up quickly to her feet, spinning around to face him. "So, now what? Maybe you should dance and sing, it would be pretty entertaining." Standing there waiting for his response, she realized how open she was being to him already, as if she was acting like her true self to someone she had just been fighting with not so long ago.

{OOC: I took that literally ^^}

Hal was caught off guard when he felt the blunt pain from Claira kicking him and flinched. "Ouch--! Okay, I was kidding!!" He said while he rubbed the bruise.

He expected her to hit him (lightly) for the stupid joke but he didn't actually expect she would laugh. At least he knew that she was warming up to him now. It wasn't like a few minutes earlier they were bickering. "But that actually hurt."

'You might get a lot further than friendship if you keep this up.'

Hal got flustered when Claire said those words that he wasn't able to respond. The thought hadn't even crossed his mind. True, maybe he wanted to try being the guy who was going to try to help someone out but that was as far as his imagination got to. Further than friendship? Hal wasn't quite sure he was up for that yet.

The flushed color on his face was a bit too obvious to hide. Hal cast his gaze down instead but had to look back up when he heard her giggle again. Now his own little joke was coming back at him.

Embarrassed, Hal rubbed the back of his neck, "Actually, I don't know how to sing. My parents used to say I sound like a dying whale when I try." he laughed. That was when he used to spend time with the family; he swore he wasn't ever going to sing.

Smiling as he reacted to her kicking her, she felt herself warming up to him. Nodding childishly as he said that she had hurt him, she thought to that maybe he should build up his strength. Not wanting to make him feel any more embarrassed than he clearly was from what she had said, she decided to keep quiet. She didn't feel like laughing at his discomfort like before. She could tell that he was embarrassed because of the way that he had curled himself up, as if her words were giving him a stomach ache. Frowning a bit, she stepped back. Though only a few seconds later, he had said that he couldn't sing all that well. Laughing lightly as he compared his singing,. she thought it funny that he thought he couldn't sing. "Who cares if you can't? I can't either, so sing with me." She told him, smiling. "Stand up. Grab my hand and lets sing. There is no one else around to care and I won't judge."

Hal had noticed Claire had been laughing more than she did when they settled their differences aside. She was more cheerful than he'd thought and it somehow made him feel calmer. The night was silent and all he could hear anyway was each other's voices and the rustling of the leaves but it didn't feel lonely now that he had company.

But the entire situation was another thing. He couldn't actually say no to Claire's invitation because it was for a fact that she was right; there wasn't anyone else to say anything against his horrible singing. He knew how to dance but singing was something else. Hal sighed in defeat, "Don't say I didn't warn you though," he said as he hopped off his seat.

"Did you have a song in mind?" Hal asked, dusting off the dirt from his clothes.

Smiling as he got up from the rock, she was in a way better mood than before. "You'll be fine." She told him quietly, thinking of what she even knew for songs. "I didn't think about that." She wasn't the most musically inclined, as the only songs she remembered and liked were hymns and things that she sang in the forest, which usually didn't have words. "I ... Don't know." She said calmly, not wanting to break the moment. She had to come up with something, even if it was something cheesy, that everyone knew... "Happy Birthday?"

Hal had to stifle a laugh. "Pfft-- Sorry. I didn't mean to laugh." He was expecting some more popular song but he had never expected it would be that generic birthday song of all things. Hal was relieved though. If it was anything else he'd have to worry about his voice. It wasn't that he had a horrible voice, he was just almost tone-deaf that he was bad at singing anything beyond the range of his speaking voice.

"Here goes everything then," Hal cleared his throat and hesitated for a moment, before he began the song. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

Scowling a bit as the boy laughed at her, it felt weird that he had laughed at her, uncomfortable even. Accepting his apology with a short nod, she decided that he would sing first, for the fact that he had laughed. Smiling a bit, she nodded again when he started, smiling even wider as she heard his voice. "Happy birthday dear..." She had drawn a blank, as there was no one with a birthday that very day, and no one to celebrate it for. "Us." Claire decided was a good fit for the uneventful song.. "Happy birthday to you."

Hal sang along with Claire softly so he could still hear himself so he wouldn't miss his note. By the sound of his voice, it wasn't hard to hide that he was trying not to sound bad. Claire on the other hand sounded a thousand times more natural than he did. At least, that's how he heard it.

He tried not to laugh again when they both had stopped. They weren't particularly singing to anyone but it made him smile inwardly when she had to improvise. Either way, he still sung along for the last line.

"Happy birthday to you." Admittedly, it wasn't that bad but if had to tell her, it was pretty anticlimactic. But he was sure Claire didn't want to hear that. "...You have a nice singing voice, Claire, you know that?" he mused aloud. He didn't bother taking it back.

Nodding in happiness as they finished their unamned birthday, she felt a lot more childish. As if the song, and singing it had made her a young child again, singing it to herself in the forest with her wolves... That wasn't a sad part of her life, but she was happy that she had a different way of living. She no longer had to rely on her intincts to catch food, and rather money. It was strange to her, how different the two were.

Hearing the boy compliment her, a biright blush crossed her face, though she wasn't sure why one small compliment had made her look like a tomato. "Thank you, I appreicate it. I mean I wasn't that good, compared to you I was, a dying eagle." She giggled, trying to compliment him, but it most likely sounded like a badly placed insult. "That was a compliment, or something, I think." She stated afterwards, as her blush slowly went down.
