Eein had a few things he was obsessed with, getting stronger, and to learn more about magic. He'd inherited his mother's entire collection of magical research, but he still liked getting books from the school library.

So here the young dragon was, a handful of books in arms as he wandered about looking for more. They were all on dragons, mainly dragon biology, he wanted to know the potential he had. So from shelf to shelf he'd walk, until finally he'd turn and something bumped into him.

He heard a grunt, looking over his books he'd see a small girl, luckily she hadn't fallen over. "Shit, sorry, sorta lost in my own lit-," he was cut off by a very large book falling from a higher shelf and bouncing off his head. He'd blink in surprise ajf glance up, "huh....uh..little world was what I was gonna say," he'd say, mildly embarrassed.

Wednesday was carrying too many books.

Her last meeting with the rest of the coven, despite being intended to be a simple social get-together, ended up flaring up a lot of her own anxieties regarding their curses. Monday picking up others to add to his household only meant there were more people at risk, which only intensified her worries. This, combined with the guilt over her lack of progress, had been eating away at her all week.

Rather than spend more time worrying, she instead thought it best to channel some of that energy into looking for a solution. She’d spent much of the previous night and all day up until now pouring over the books, practically relying entirely on coffee to keep her functioning. She was tired enough at this point to start getting careless. She knew that she was weak, weaker than normal thanks to her curse, but unlike the rest of her family she hadn’t spent her whole life with this weakness, and at times it slipped her mind.

So there she was, a thick stack of magic tomes in her hands, when she rounded a corner and bumped into something tall, knocking her off balance. She did, in fact, fall over, landing on her butt with an oof as the books she’d been carrying spilled all around her. It took her a second to realise what had happened, and she groaned to herself.

“S-sorry…” She mumbled, sheepishly as she readjusted her glasses on her face. “Wasn’t paying attention…”

The young dragon would give her a smile, "it's ok, seems we both had our heads in the clouds." Crouching he'd set his books down, and start to pick hers up for her. "I should have been paying better attention, no point in having enhanced senses if I'm not going to properly use them," he'd say with a chuckle.

"I'm Eein," he'd say as he finished helping her pick up her books, "didn't hurt you did I?" he'd ask, concerned. "I'm used to the woods, here in the school and city I feel like I'm always going to accidentally bump into something."

He'd pick up their two stacks of books and set them on a table. "Once you're ready I'll uh...carry your books out for you if you'd like," he had enhanced strength, the books weighed nothing to him.

"No no, I'm fine." She grumbled, pulling herself to her feet, muttering incomprehensibly under her breath. Even when her curses weren't being actively dangerous to her, they were still a massive inconvenience. Not to mention how undignified it made her look. She was a witch from a prestigious family for heaven's sake, constantly tripping over herself wouldn't do at all.

"I'm Wednesday." She said, moving to pick up her stack of books. They consisted mainly of advanced magical theories written by various old mages and wizards, not the sort of things that average students would be studying. "Thank's but it's only a short walk."

She gave a tiny little grunt as she lifted the books, shuffling over to one of the tables for studying, where more books of similar topics were already piled up.

He'd tilt his head, picking up the book that had landed in his head and placing it back on the shelf. "Good to meetcha Wednesday," he'd say, smiling a bit, "bumping into someone doesn't seem to bad a way to meet someone."

Eein glanced over her books, he recognized a few of them. "This one," he'd tap a finger on one of them, "based around the Merlin scrolls found near Stonehenge right?" he had a copy of it in his bedroom with his mother's collection.

"What kind of magic are you researching?" he'd ask curiously, taking a seat at the desk.

Wednesday sighed as she slumped into her chair, opening one of the new books while taking a pen to make notes in another.

“Protection magic, old curses, scrying…”

She rubbed her forehead, surprising another tired sigh.

“I um…have some family who have some problems that can only be solved with magic.” She explained. “I came to this school to study magic for that reason.”

She decided to leave out the part where she was also afflicted with the curse. Wednesday figured telling people that a dimensional horror was stalking you seemed like a good way to freak them out while you were around.

"I'm sorry to hear that," he'd say, taking a seat, "but yeah, this school is a good place to find answers ad solutions." Curses were nasty business, arguably the most negative of all forms of magic, things that can harm generations of people.

With a hum he'd flip through his stack of books, until he found the one he was looking for. "Here...take a look at this one," he'd pass the book to her, "was written by a dragon researcher....she was really intelligent, long lived."

The book was about ancient forms of magic, mainly dealing with how to undo negative ones, curses included. "Don't know anything about your family's situation...won't ask, but it might help, give you some useful info at least."

Wednesday peer over at the book he pointed out, quickly scanning over its index before flicking to one of the pages, that caught her interest. She appeared to be focusing intently for a moment, but as she tried to read the words blurred in her brain, she blinked as her exhaustion pulled at her mind.

"Uuugh!" She groaned, grabbing her notebook and smacking it softly against her head. "I can't focus on any of this!"

A chorus of shushes quickly erupted from around them after her outburst, and Wednesday found herself immediately shrinking in her seat, face turning a slightly deeper shade of green. She'd almost forgotten where they were for a moment.

"Um," She started to speak again after recovering her composure. "Thanks. I think that might be helpful. If I get a chance to look it over right..."

He'd chuckle a tiny bit at her blushing, gently pulling the notebook down and away from her face. "I get the feeling you're thinking to hard, and to much. The mind needs to rest just like the body." Opening his bag he'd dig through it.

"What grade are you in?" he'd ask ask he pulled a notebook from his bag, "you look about my age." In truth it was sometimes hard to tell age on the island, so many immortals and long lived beings were around.

The young dragon quickly flipped through the notebook before passing it to her. "My notes on the book, I have copies...plus I've read through the book so many times I know it I and out." She seemed stressed, he couldn't help but want to help.

Wednesday murmured something incomprehensible under her breath, clearly distracted, before refocusing her attention on Eein.

"Oh, um. Grade 10." She replied, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. "I'm um, still kind of new, so I don't know everyone in my age group yet..."

She trailed off as Eein brought out his own notes, eyeing them for a moment. The assistance could be useful. Even if the info he'd marked down wasn't specifically useful to her purposes, it would at least cut down on how much she needed to do herself. However...

"Thanks but, I should be fine without those." She said, shaking her head. It wasn't the most practical answer to give, she rationalised it away in her mind saying that she shouldn't accept too much help from strangers, you never know what they'd want in return. But in reality, her pride wouldn't let her rely on others too much.

She had to do this herself.

"Maybe you're right about having some rest though." She admitted, pushing her glasses up briefly to rub the bridge of her nose. "I've been at it for um..."

For the first time since she'd arrived at the library, she looked over at the clock. Oh.

"...Um, for a while."

She decided to leave out exactly how long.
