Haley had spent the entire afternoon preparing for her first study session with Minnie. As this was her first time hosting by herself, she wanted everything perfect, as if her Ma had set it up with her. She went to a Farmer's Market in the Agricultural District to get the freshest ingredients from organic, humane farmers. She didn't know what Minnie would like, so she bought a bit of everything that was in season, fruits, vegetables, eggs, chicken, beef, pork. After all, what they didn't eat today, Haley could cook later. She then cleaned the shared living area, kitchen, and her own room, until they were spotless. She laid out all her study materials and prepared her cooking space in the kitchen. She took a quick shower, and changed into a nice, but casual, floral dress that went past her knees, a cute apron with kitties on it, and some bunny slippers. She then sat on a chair in the living area and played a phone game as she waited for Minnie to return.

Minnie was actually kind of excited about the upcoming study session with her roomie. For one thing, English was definitely her best subject, even if they were looking at Romeo and Juliet. Apparently, even high school on magic island needed to read that overdone love story. But the other thing was, Haley seemed like a nice girl. And she was Minnie's age, and not claiming to be something weird like a goddess just because she had unusual abilities.

So, after secluding herself in the school library for awhile to work on some of her other homework, Minnie returned to the dorms feeling slightly more cheerful than usual. It was also not one of her bad days, allowing her to get some enjoyment out of this instead of locking herself in her room like she had the first week.

"'Ey Haley." She greeted the other girl with a wave. Her mouth watered slightly at the smell of food. "You outdid yourself, I thought you just said you wanted snacks!" Now she felt a little self-conscious. Minnie wasn't exactly ashamed of her dietary habits (aside from the secret cravings), but she did feel awkward explaining, especially to people who were providing food. She hated the attention.

"Hey Minnie!" Haley said with her thin southern accent while jumping up from her chair. Haley immediately rushed over to Minnie and gave her a big hug, lifting her small frame slightly off the ground. Haley was always a hugger, but for some reason every time she saw Minnie she had to give her an extra big hug. "I had planned on just getting some snacks, but everything just looked so good at the farmers' market. I guess I got carried away. I'm sorry if this is too much? Don't worry about eating it all, what I don't make today, I'm using as groceries for the week." Haley couldn't tell Minnie that she did all this to impress her. Cooking was one of her best skills, and she wanted to show off a little, especially since Minnie was so good in English class. She could tell that Minnie was feeling a bit self-conscious, for some reason, and hoped to put her at ease.

Eep! Minnie wasn't actually a big hugger herself, or she wouldn't be if she was left to her own devices. But people always wanted to hug her, so she didn't complain. Especially when it was better than anything else they might do. Besides, she knew the other girl was just being friendly. If a little overenthusiastic.

"Whoa there! Trying to practice some weightlifting too?" She laughed a little when her feet left the ground. Glad for the distraction. There was so much food though. "I guess if you're using it for groceries too that makes sense. You cooks a lot back 'ome?"

Minnie still hesitated a bit, not sure how to tell her roomie about her strange diet without sounding picky. At home she pretty much had to suck it up and hide most foods she couldn't eat, as best as she could without lying, and she didn't want Haley to think she didn't like it. And she really was hungry. And even worse, it was probably all fresh stuff, so she couldn't blame it being artificial either.

"That meat sure looks tasty. Benefits of being from farmers, eh?" Okay... Maybe she was delaying a bit.

"Hahaha, sorry, you're just so light!" Haley said as she put Minnie down. However, Haley still hadn't stopped touching Minnie. Instead she took her by the hand and led her to the kitchen.

"Yeah, I used to cook with my Ma every day. The food in the cafeteria just don't taste right, I'd rather cook what I want. So what can I cook while you get ready? I make good fried chicken and biscuits. Good collared greens, barbecue, deviled eggs, pecan pie. Oh and my speciality is chicken-fried steak. I can also whip up a recipe from online if you're not feeling southern today?"

Minnie barely noticed the hand-holding. She was too caught up in nervous embarrassment about explaining herself to pay attention to yet another person touching her alot.

"Southern, eh? 'aven't even heard of most of those things. Chicken-fried steak sounds like stuffing a chicken with steak and frying it..." Which sounded utterly amazing to Minnie, except she was fairly certain that was not what Haley meant. For one thing, it wouldn't cook through, and while Minnie enjoyed raw meat, most recipes weren't designed that way. "That's probably not what it is though."

Minnie took a breath, pausing to think, "I likes a good egg..." And she'd run out of distractions. "Haley, I 'ave a bit of an ... unusual ... diet. It um ... makes me sick to eat most of that. I know it sounds weird, but I'm not lying. My stomach is just... strange."

Haley looked up, confused for a moment, but realized that Minnie was serious about this. "Oh, do you have one of those food allergies? It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I have an uncle with that celiacs thing, I'll be able to cook around it. " Haley looked Minnie in the eyes, trying to give her a reassuring look. "So what are you allergic to?"

Minnie squirmed slightly when Haley looked at her. Even though very word was truth, as she saw it, it felt so silly saying it out loud. She never doubted she was human, she'd been like this her whole life, but what normal human was carnivorous?

"I guess... you could call it an allergy... I gets sick when I eat vegetables... or fruit... it sounds like a bad joke, I know. Meat is good. Eggs, milk. I'm sorry I'm so weird - I don't like telling people. You don't 'ave to cater to me."

Minnie couldn't keep looking at the other girl, she was so embarrassed by this. She looked around the kitchen instead, glancing anywhere to avoid meeting Haley's eyes. And of course her stomach chose that moment to growl a little. She couldn't say she wasn't hungry either, if Haley asked about it.
