Lei snorted. "Thanks, grandpa," he teased.

Lei didn't have strong feelings about cafes, really. He didn't like coffee, tea was okay, and he never really thought about sweets unless it was present right in front of him. He didn't really see what the big deal was, but he supposed he could play along.

He crossed his legs, resting his cheek on his fist. "Are you going to buy me pastries?"

"...Why else would I take you here?" was Deith's reply that came with another grin. There were already a couple of menus on the table, so Deith simply nudged one towards Lei as he took his seat opposite of him. His forearms were on the table, acting as support for his weight as he slightly leaned forward. His eyes on Lei's. "I know the whole place smells like coffee but they have tea, too, and other kinds of drinks. And their pastries are great. Not too sweet. I really wanted to let you try some, but..." By then, he unconsciously leaned back against his chair, and only then did he feel his shoulders relax. "...I understand if you're not into stuff like this. We can go somewhere else if you want."

But Lei was already looking at the menu. There were a lot of stuff on it. They even had savory meals, but he already ate earlier. He rubbed his chin. "I like Oolong. Hmm. I don't know if I should get the cupcake or the actual cake. Apple Walnut's really calling to me right now. So I guess Oolong and Apple Walnut?"

He leaned forward, putting the menu gently on the table. What was common etiquette in dates, anyway? It seemed like raves were so much easier to navigate. You just kiss someone and go. Dates were... he had to open up, and he wasn't sure how to go about doing that exactly.

"I've, er, never been to a date before," he admitted softly.

"Oh? Me neither, don't worry."

Deith was actually pretty relieved. If Lei was telling the truth, and Deith believed he was, then it was good that he wasn't the only first timer here. Because he and his lover never really 'dated' like this, at least not in usual cliché ways like this where the couple would have to go to places and get to know each other. Not that he could call him and Lei a couple.

For a moment, he caught himself smiling at the wonderful memories from the distant past.

He grabbed another menu to take a look on it, before calling for a waiter and giving him their orders. Oolong tea and Apple Walnut for Lei, and Hot Latte and chocolate chip cookies for himself.

He put down the menu once they were left alone again. Silence lingered for a few seconds, as he thought about this 'date'. He wondered if not having much clue was a bad thing. "...Oh well. As long as we enjoy our time, we'll be fine."

Lei shook his head, laughing. That seemed to take the tension off. "Phew! Finally, I wouldn't be the only incompetent one here. We can embarrass ourselves together."

He reached out to touch Deith's hand from across the table. He gave him a soft smile, which felt strained in contrast with his usual angry expressions. Their first meeting... It was practically fairy tale like, and they bumped into each other again. He usually didn't have much hope in his life but this was just romcom levels of impossible. It had to be meant to be, or something.

It was odd, feeling like he wasn't strained or stretched too thin. He would later identify the feeling later as 'relaxed.' "It's not really embarrassing if we have fun together, though, right? Where do you want to go after this?"

Deith felt a tickling warmth on his hand. It wasn't uncomfortable though, it felt like a spark ignited by them being... just right, being like that and all. And Deith later on unconsciously threaded their fingers together, making their hold a bit more secure.

The air was already a hundred percent comforting for him. Especially once Lei eased up and laughed, and kept smiling as they spoke.

"I admit, the only places I visit during the day are the parks and cafés in the city," he replied. "I think it's going to be boring if we stick to those later, so maybe we can visit more lively places. Or shops selling interesting items. Or..." Honestly though, he had no idea what he was saying. "Hm... Lively places, huh..."

Lei laughed. "Lively places? What, like a Night Club? There's this new place people go to now, it's called Gomorrah... or something. Apparently it's a club for non-humans. I'm not really interested, but I heard a bunch of people that disappeared there and came out a week crazy. No, thanks."

The waiter brought them Lei's cake and Deith's cookies. Lei hesitantly let go of Deith's hand and pulled the cake closer to him. "What do you even do in parks and cafes? I prefer movies. Or the theater. It keeps me stimulated, you know?"

Deith shrugged. "I like cafés. And I love watching people. I'd probably try that Gomorrah some time in the future though. Sounds interesting."

He pulled his plate of five-inches-diameter chocolate chips closer to him, and then took a sip from his cup of latté. As always, the sweets soothed him and tingled his senses at the same time.

He was grinning when he put the cup down. Looking straight into Lei's eyes, he remembered vividly how they first met. "Remember when I first saw you? I was watching you fight the ocean," he laughed, but only because he found the memory to be happy, and he wanted and welcomed it. "You were really adorable, Lei! I'd love to watch you all over again."

Lei shook his head, smiling. "Well, don't get lost in there for a week. I like you the way you are."

He did prefer the relentless teasing over — over this. Lei could volley back insults. Butterflies in his stomach was a whole different story. He looked down, staring at his cake with a huge blush on his face. He remembered his escapades weeks before and he was overcome with a sudden wave of embarrassment. He was such a douche. He was still a douche now. Nothing really changed his endless douchebag nature. At this rate, his existence was heading into perfect douche singularity.

"I was only trying to pick a fight with the ocean because it started it!" He paused, remembering something.

He pulled Deith's handkerchief from his pocket.

"Well then, how's your training? You were able to make the water dance before, right?" Deith was almost too absorbed watching Lei then. The male's cuteness captured his eyes, which made him see nothing else. He tilted his head, and looked lower, curious about what Lei was going to bring out from his pocket. "What's that?" he asked curiously.
