Wednesday trudged through the snow, pulling her coat around her tight to keep out the cold. After her little mishap with Sunday in the forest, she had made sure to prepare herself every time she went out. A spell had been cast to protect her from the winds, and an enchantment had been lain on her coat to keep the heat from escaping.

It was a little bit overkill, considering the short distance she had to walk, but Wednesday figured she could never be too careful.

After the Island government had announced their concern with the never-ending snowfall, the coven had made plans to take matters into their own hands and were preparing a spell to hopefully find out more. Wednesday wanted to make sure she was as thoroughly prepared as she could be, so today she planned to go over her notes with Saturday at his apartment.

Wednesday wasn't entirely comfortable with the rest of the coven yet. Tuesday was fun and nice to her, but she was also wild and spontaneous, which was something she was yet to get used to. And while she knew that Sunday was kind under her stoic exterior, she was still...difficult to be around at times. Saturday, she had to admit, was a little intimidating, but that was partly because she didn't know much about him. So, thinking that this would be a good chance to get to know her fellow witch better, she arranged to meet with him today.

She arrived at Saturday's mechanic shop at noon, precisely at the appointed time, her backpack slung over her shoulder filled with her old spell tomes and notebooks. Gently pushing open the door, she poked her head inside, peering around curiously.

Saturday was making coffee, but stopped while filling the machine and thought. What if Wednesday didn't like coffee? She was only 16, Saturday had not liked coffee at that age. Though he had already had an adult body at 16, that made him different. But nevertheless Saturday put some water in a kettle to boil for tea after some worrying. Toto, Saturday's parrot familiar, watched from his perch with judging eyes.
"If you're going to be such a worrywart just make her drink water!"
Saturday flinched a bit and looked over at Toto with annoyance, had he been that obvious.
"Shut it, birdbrain, and go watch the workshop. She might go there without realizing the side entrance."
As usual Saturday had thought about a detail like that. Toto sighed and flew over to the door, that lead to a staircase that further lead to the workshop. Saturday opened the door for Toto, knowing the downstairs door was already cracked open. Saturday got back to making coffee and reviewing his notes.

As the agreed upon time approached, as Saturday could instinctively tell, he got more and more nervous. He was aware that he tended to make people uncomfortable, with his mean look and all, and hoped Wednesday wouldn't be put off. Saturday had presented the option of his guardianship for all the young witches, since there seemed to be many of them, and Saturday couldn't help but be concerned for the youngsters. He was the oldest among them, and even he struggled with the weight of this curse. Saturday just wanted to offer support, help the young ones overcome adversities until they hopefully broke these curses. Even if he was being a busybody it was in Saturday's nature, to worry and want to protect.
Maybe to also repent and pay for his sins.

"The green girl is here, come down!"
Saturday jumped when he heard Toto's voice from downstairs, almost dropping a pair of cups he had been laying out. And just when Toto yelled that Saturday could feel Wednesday stepping over the protective line he had laid around the workshop, meant to alarm him of any hostiles. But it read Wednesday as a friend. Saturday set the cups down and walked downstairs, trying not to rush. He opened the door that lead to the staircase leading to his apartment and tried to send a friendly smile at the girl in his workshop. But all he managed was a nervous smirk. Toto snickered on the perch on a wall that Saturday had set up for him.
"Hello, welcome. Come in, the weather isn't the best out there."

Wednesday also jumped, surprised at the sudden loud voice. She couldn't help but frown a little. The green girl, how very astute. She knew, logically, her appearance was far from the most outlandish thing on the island, but she still didn't enjoy people pointing out how different she looked.

"Hello to you too, Toto." She dryly murmured as she shambled inside, closing the door on the cold wind behind her. While she took a moment to brush some of the snow off her coat, something shuffled around inside her backpack. A small feline head emerged from the opening, before Wednesday's cat Frodo crawled out, leaped down to the ground and began sniffing around, curious about the new surroundings.

Wednesday herself was doing similar, looking around her, checking out what was on display in the shop, when the door opened to reveal Saturday. She found herself standing stiffly, an equally nervous looking smile on her face.

“Uh, hey Saturday.” She waved at him, a little awkwardly. “Thanks for agreeing to see me on such short notice and all.”

Wednesday wasn’t exactly used to talking to people. She had relatively little contact with others outside of her witch clan. As a result, she didn’t really know how to read people, meaning she didn’t end up catching on to the older witch’s own nerves at all. She was more preoccupied with how tall he was, he practically towered over the young girl. She shuffled on her feet, glancing around her again.

“So, um…you have a nice shop.” She noted. Wednesday tended to keep to herself most of the time, even after joining the coven. So she hadn’t actually been inside it before. "I hope I'm, not taking up business hours or anything."

Toto laughed at Wednesday's reaction to him and fluttered closer, landing on an unfinished piece of machinery.
"Look what the cat dragged in~ Speaking of which, do you have your feline friend with?"
Toto's tone sounded a bit mocking, which was his natural tone, and he tilted her head all bird-like. Just then Frodo peeked out and Toto let out a screech of excitement and flew over to bug the cat with chattering. That was just when Saturday opened the door and stepped in.

"It's no problem, really. I'm sorry about Toto, he isn't the most tactful bird."
Saturday said apologetically and sent the parrot a small stern glare. Toto stopped bothering Frodo, whistled innocently and proceeded to fly upstairs while screeching. Saturday sighed and shook his head, what was he going to do with that bird?
Saturday purposefully kept his distance from Wednesday, he didn't want to seem too eager or intimidating and thus simply stood in the doorway, as the young witch looked around her in the shop.

"Thank you. The owner took most of the December off and told me to keep the shop open whenever I wish. I can afford to keep it closed, don't worry."
Saturday explained, trying to smile reassuringly but it looked a bit tense.
"Would you like to come upstairs? I have coffee and tea if you'd like any."

Frodo shot the bird a look that was remarkably similar to the one Wednesday had on her face. A sort of tired, disappointed look that someone might give to a particularly loud and annoying baby on a public bus. It let out a long hiss in response to the birds chattering, swatting its paws in the air lazily. It was sending messages into Wednesday’s brain that roughly translated into “please make it stop” before Saturday finally got him to fly away. The young witch did her best to ignore the familiar’s shenanigans, instead continuing to face the Saturday attentively, rubbing one of her arms while they spoke.

“Uh, yeah sure. I’d like some coffee, thanks.” Many long, sleepless nights spent studying her magic lead to Wednesday growing accustomed to the bitter taste, and with the winter weather the way it was, she could use something to warm herself up. “Let’s head up then. I’ve been pretty curious to see what your place is like.”

Was that a weird thing to say? It felt weird. Ugh, she groaned internally. She hated how awkward she felt around the other members of the coven, she really needed to work on it. Readjusting the strap on her backpack, she shuffled over across the room, ready to follow him up once he started to lead the way

So Wednesday drank coffee. Saturday tugged that piece of information behind his ear and nodded a bit at the girl, turning biy sideways in preparation to head up.
"My place? It's really nothing special."
Saturday said dismissively, though he was surprised Wednesday was curious about something like that. Saturday didn't think whether her statement soundef weird or not, he was too busy worrying if he had forgotten to clean something away. Saturday didn't want Wednesday to accidentally slip on a grease stain or sit on a screw.

Saturday climbed the stairs as Wednesday approached and he in passing told the girl to leave the lower door cracked open. Saturday entered his apartment, and upon entering Wednesday would see a rather homely kitchen with dark wood and warm, earthy colours. The walls were bare wood and had some Native American art, since Saturday wanted to pay homage to his heritage. Behind the corner in the next room there was a living room area with two soft-looking leather couches, old-looking big TV and a big dream catcher on the wall.

Saturday walked to the counter with two cups and filled both with coffee, his to the brim and Wednesday's half-full.
"Do you want milk or sugar?"
Saturday asked over his shoulder, kind of nervous to see the girl's reaction to his apartment.

Wednesday followed behind him, leaving a crack open at the door as directed. Once they reached the apartment, she stepped inside, slowly panning her eyes, curiously looking around. It…certainly wasn’t what she thought it would be. The only other witch’s dwellings she’d entered had belonged to other members of her clan. They had been very traditional, wealthy European witches, and their living spaces reflected that. Lots of stone walls and dark colours, and the art hanging on their walls weren’t anything like Saturday’s.

“I’d like milk, please.” She said, absentmindedly as she continued her look around. Mr Frodo, for his part, wasted no time making himself at home, jumping up on to one of the couches, stretching himself out against the comfy cushion, and lying down to rest. “You have a really nice apartment. It’s a lot nicer than mine, anyway.”

Wednesday’s own apartment was a lot smaller and cheaper looking by comparison. She’d bought plenty of things from Germany to help decorate the place, but it still didn’t feel like a home to her. She set her bag down near the kitchen table, looking over at Saturday with a small smile, finished with her little appraisal.

Toto let out a friendly screech from one of his perches on the wall as the two came to the apartment. There was a perch in every room for him, attached to the wall with screws and high-up, so he could see the whole room. Toto liked seeing everything he could around Saturday, it was his job to protect the guy, after all.
Or he just liked looking down on people, that was more likely.

Saturday added milk to Wednesday's coffee and stirred it a bit. He cast a small spell that put the coffee's time ahead by a minute or so, so it wouldn't be as hot when he gave it to the girl. Saturday smiled a bit at the cat that made itself comfortable, and he sent Toto a firm look so the bird would leave the poor creature be. So instead Toto whistled a bit and flew on Saturday's shoulder, as he sat down opposite of Wednesday. Saturday did his best to answer Wednesday's smile and tried not to look like he was scowling.
"I'm glad you like it. I've lived long, I've had time to collect things along the way."
Many of the art pieces Saturday had were almost as old as him, if not older. When he and the members of his clan had set out to find a way to break this curse each had taken few things from their ancestral home. So they'd never forget their roots.

"But it's a bit big for me and Toto alone. I have open rooms that are not nearly as nice looking as here, full of parts and clutter."
Saturday admitted, bit embarrassed, and let out a small awkward chuckle. He sipped his coffee but pulled back, burning his tongue a bit. He had forgotten to do the same spell on his own coffee, how careless of him. Wednesday really had him nervous.

“Oh, there’s nothing wrong with that.” She waved her hand dismissively. The rooms in Wednesdays apartment were usually pretty full, even though she liked to keep neat and tidy. It was cluttered, but an organised kind of cluttered.

She accepted the coffee cup with a nod and a quiet thanks. She sipped from her cup at the same time Saturday did, and when he burned himself, she had to stifle a small chuckle. After feeling so intimidated by his size and demeanour, the little blunder relieved some of the tension of their meeting for her, helping her relax a bit.

“A lot of this stuff does look pretty old, yeah.” She continued, peering at him curiously. While she didn’t know the specific details of Saturdays situation, she did know he was much older than he looked. “You’ve been around for a long time, haven’t you? A lot more than the rest of us, anyway. Things today must be really different from when you were young, it must feel like a completely different world, right?”

As soon as she finished asking, her face turned a slightly deeper shade of green.

“Uh, you don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to.” She quickly added, suddenly aware that she might be prying a little.

Saturday was surprisingly glad about his little blunder. He could feel the tension ease a bit as well, and he relaxed his shoulders. Saturday muttered some magic words and did the same time magic trick to his own coffee.

Saturday wasn't surprised Wednesday wondered about him. The others did probably as well. And his situation was indeed strange, and complicated, and if Saturday shared the details the other member's of the coven wouldn't probably be able to look him in the eyes anymore. So for their sake he had told the minimum amount about himself.
As for Wednesday's question, that he could answer.
"Don't worry. I want to. You're right, I've been around for a while now. But as the world grew and matured so did I. I guess I grew up with it."
Saturday shrugged his shoulders a bit, and sipped his now cooler coffee.
"Certainly it was confusing whenever a new invention popped up. But I just needed to not live in the past, learn to let go, and go with the flow of time. Time is what I'm good at, so I don't fight against it."
Well, except in the case of his collar.
