Wednesday listened intently as he explained, her curiosity overriding her earlier anxiousness. Saturday’s explanation on how he coped felt like the sort of thing Tuesday might tell her to do. To just go with the flow. Something Wednesday was never very good at, despite the older witches coaching.

“I guess it must get easier as time goes on.” She said, between sips of her coffee. “I’m not sure if I could get used to it, if I were in your shoes. Even just moving to the island was a big shakeup for me.”

She sat up straight, politely, taking a moment to have another long sip from her cup before she continued.

"I uh...didn't really get to leave home much, when I was younger." Wednesday explained, recalling her rather sheltered childhood with the Verduns. "So all this, the big city, the school, even just living alone. Its a little uh...overwhelming?"

She seemed to shrink a little in her seat after her admission. She hadn't really spoken at length about this with the other witches yet, and she frowned to herself a little as she did.

Wednesday was so young, so unsure and it seemed like she didn't believe in her own capabilites to survive and get along. Saturday knew very well how that felt. After all, since he was 10 he had been a child in an adult's body. Feeling like he should've been able to do things child his age shouldn't even dream of. And the age of 16 was a sensitive one, for everyone.
Saturday's heart went to the child.

"Sometimes it does get easier, sometimes doesn't. I still remember when first telephones appeared. For a long time I avoided getting one of those machines, they seemed too foreign and new for even my skills to comprehend. But eventually I was able to break through my uncertainty, and get one. I'm still a bit clumsy at using them, but I'm trying. Because that's the only thing that we all, in the end, can do. Try. And sometimes we succeed, and sometimes we fail."
Saturday said after Wednesday expressed her worries, he hadn't talked like this to anyone in a long time. Encouraged someone. It felt like finding a lost part of himself, the need to guide others.

"Now, this might be me overstepping boundaries, but the coven, it's...for a witch coven is a family. And for me family is something that you can rely on. So, that is..."
Saturday looked down on his coffee and awkwardly rubbed his neck.
"I, um, have a lot of space here. If you want, you can have a room. Hell, I have a whole tower empty. You could...live here, temporarily if you want. It might make it easier for you to adjust, if you're not alone."
Saturday's voice got a bit mumbly, was this strange? Saturday had pure intentions, he really did want to help Wednesday. Help all his fellow coven members.

Wednesdays eyes flicked up to his as he made the offer. Live with Saturday? The offer had previously been floated out to the coven, she knew, but its not something she'd really been considering. So far, the old witch had seemed much less scary than her initial impression of him had been. She still didn't know much about him, but she figured he at least had good intentions. Not to mention that living in an apartment that wasn't so empty would alleviate some of her anxiousness over her new home.

However, just as quickly as she'd begun thinking about it, she started to push the thoughts out, letting out a small sigh.

"It's not that I don't appreciate the offer, because I do. I just..."

She put her cup down on the table, but kept her hands on it, her finger tapping against its side while her gaze looked back down.

"We're a coven, we're all powerful witches. We're all supposed to treat each other as equals, as people strong enough to rely on. I'm here representing my family as well as myself, and if you the rest of you are fine living by yourselves than I should be too. I don't want any of you treating me like-"

She stopped just before she said it. 'Like a child'. Wednesday couldn't ignore the fact that she was the youngest, that she was perhaps less experienced than the others, but her pride wouldn't let her accept that as a reason for anyone to look down on her. Whether it was really happening or not.

"...Like someone who needs the extra help." She eventually finished, frowning to herself.

Saturday more than understood what Wednesday was saying, about not wanting to seem weak, like a child. She didn't say it with those words but they meant the same thing. Saturday also set his cup down as he listened, and he nodded.
"I must tell you a secret."
Saturday said with a slightly quieter tone, and when Toto heard his tone the parrot let out a quiet squak and glided to the table next to him.
"The truth is, that though my magic may be strong I am a weak person. I lean on people around me, whether they know it or not."
Saturday sighed a bit, and reached to give Toto a few strokes down his back. The parrot tilted his head a bit and snatched Saturday's finger in his mouth, biting it gently.
"Without Toto here I would even more of a weak person, not even able to see the sky. So, this offer is to also help me. Because I do not want to be alone either."
Saturday smiled slightly at Wednesday, a small, lonely smile. Saturday didn't like showing his weak side, but he had a feeling Wednesday needed to see it. And like the girl had said, Saturday respected her as an equal. She wouldn't make fun of him, or think less of him because of this.
"But it's understandable if you refuse, I won't pressure you. Just know that my door is always cracked open, just like you left it."

Wednesday took a moment before she was finally able to meet the older witch’s eye, finger still tapping anxiously against her cup all the while. That…wasn't what she was expecting to hear. Saturday always seemed so solid, strong, like he said. Definitely not the kind of person to be so open with his vulnerabilities the way he was being right now. Her frown gradually faded from her face as her lips drew tight.

There was a long moment of silence as Wednesday reconsidered his offer again, in light of this new information. Frodo, sensing the shift in the young girl’s mood, hopped off from the couch, padding across the room, brushing his body up against her legs as if to remind her of his presence. She sipped her drink quietly once more before speaking again.

“Maybe…we can try a sort of trial thing?” She eventually eked out, rubbing the back of her neck. “It would be pretty convenient if we need to get in touch, after all. As a coven, we do need to keep track of each other. And I’m sure I could figure out ways to help out around here. I wouldn’t want to be a freeloader or anything like that.”

She clasped her hands together and rested them on the table, giving a single, almost businesslike nod, as if to reaffirm her statements. She added a small smile afterwards, to reassure both Saturday and herself.

“As I said, we’re supposed to be able to rely on each other. I guess if we’re in easy reach it'd be easier to do that...right?"

The silence felt heavy and made Saturday extremely anxious. Maybe he shouldn't have done that, show Wednesday his weakness like this. Maybe it made the girl even more unsure, convinced her that living with Saturday wasn't a good idea. Toto hopped onto Saturday's wrist and scooted along his arm to his shoulder, nipping at the man's ear and snapping him out of the worry vortex he had sunken into.

Saturday tried to not look too excited, when Wednesday agreed to live with him. In a way. She proposed a trial period, to which Saturday agreed gladly and nodded.
"That is fair, and a smart decision. I will let you decide the length of this trial period."
Saturday smiled slightly, also trying to reassure both Wednesday and himself. Saturday stood up and took his empty coffee cup to the sink, taking Wednesday's as well if she was done with her coffee.
"I will take care of the necessary paperwork, as soon as you feel like you're ready. But before that, I do believe we were supposed to discuss our notes on the upcoming ritual."

"Oh! Right, of course, yes."

She left the cup for Saturday to take, reached down next to her where she had set her bag, and began to pull out her notes she'd been preparing for the last few days. Frodo, believing the mood to have improved, brushed against the young witch's leg once more, before padding back towards the couch. Halfway across the room, he stopped. It occurred to the feline that if he and Wednesday moved in with Saturday, he'd have to put up with Toto even more.

Wednesday chose to ignore the anguish that emanated from her familiar at that moment.

Halfway through setting up her things, she paused, setting down her pen, directing one last small smile at the older witch.

"Thanks, Saturday. For...you know, trying to help and everything. I really do appreciate it."
