Climbing trees

Veronica was sitting in a tree, listening to the people below her.

It had taken a tremendous deal of effort and patience to climb said tree, and she was rather proud of herself for succeeding; she'd always wanted to try it, but her parents had never let her out of their sight long enough for her to attempt it.

Now she was sitting, wondering what one did once they were done climbing trees; she half wished there was someone with her to tell her, but dismissed the thought almost immediately. It was nice, being alone. The birds were chirping, the squirrels doing whatever it was that they liked to do, and... And she was dangerously close to loosing her balance. She wildly scrambled for something to hold onto, but the branches she'd climbed up on had mysteriously disappeared.

She tumbled over backwards, falling through the air, and stopped just a moment before she hit the ground, righting herself and slowly touching down. How useful her powers were... She wondered how she ever got along without them. But still, she was down from the tree, and simply lifting herself back up wouldn't be the same. She folded her arms, wondering if she should have another go or just walk back to her dorm. What time was it, again?

Em had been out as well she hadn't quite made many friends and the last time she met someone was no exception either... She wanted to fit in but she didn't seem to... She looked down walking beneath some trees she noticed a girl who had fallen stay still in mid air and then calmly stand up straight she smiled lightly and decided to try her luck with her...

"Hello there? Enjoying the climb or the fall? Their both rather fun..."

Veronica grinned awkwardly in the opposite direction from the girl, not at all accustom to feeling as polite as she did at the moment. "It's my first time for both." She laughed, summoning her bag to one hand and searching it mentally for her sunglasses; she found them, floated them on, and turned to face the girl. "And I'm afraid I must agree, they're both rather amusing." Another smile, and she tugged absent-mindedly at a stray lock of hair, embarrassed at being caught doing something as childish as climbing a tree. "I'm Veronica."

"I'm Em... It's fun climbing trees... where I come from we climb masts... But anyway did you come here just to climb the tree?"
She said with a smile... She like climbing as well... She liked almost anything that a kid would she had a child's heart....

Masts? She raised an eyebrow, but remained silent. "No... I take a walk out here almost every day." She sat down at the base of the tree, staring unnervingly at a spot just a bit over Em's shoulder. "I heard the tree and thought I might try climbing it." She shrugged, turning her head away. "What about you? Any particular reason behind today's outing?"

"Not really... So your powers are what? Telekenesis?"
She asked questioningly after seeing her stopping in mid air she was curious... She knew it wasn't always safe to be curious but she didn't care...

She nodded. "One of my powers, correct." She wasn't even going to get into the other one... She honestly didn't see what was so horrible about her other power, but people always seemed to complain when she told them she was a genius. "And what are you, a..." She waved her hand in the air, finally shrugging. "No idea."

"Pyro... I control fire..."
She said with a friendly smile... So far so good she hadn't been yelled at or chased with a broom stick or a frying pan or any of the above... She hopefully wasn't going to do something stupid like last time...
"So what's your other power?"

Veronica coughed politely, rolling her eyes behind her sunglasses. Of course she'd ask. Everyone asked. "I am... Extremely intelligent. Really. Yes, I'm sure." She crossed her arms defensively, staring with unseeing eyes over the top of her sunglasses at the girl. "Don't bother. I've heard each and every one of the thousand zingers floating around in that sweet little head of yours." She grinned, pushing her sunglasses up and obscuring the milky white orbs once more. Hmm, which would this one go for? She seemed slightly intelligent - probably 'I never would have guessed' or something similar.

"That's awesome... I'm not the most inteligent person in the world but you seem live the power fits. It must be handy in the classroom."
She said with a friendly smile...
She wondered if the girl'd believe her being a pirate....
