It was probably a stupid idea to share a room with Gabe. Even though Diego would've probably ended up sleeping next to Gabe every night anyway it was still stupid. Sharing a room meant sharing a common space, and Diego had loooooots of things he didn't want Gabe to know about. Sharing a room was a stupid idea.
But...
Just the thought of being able to wake up in the same room as Gabe every say was like a dream come true. So shut up, rational thinking, and help the body to grab that box off the floor.

Diego was moving the little stuff he had to his and Gabe's now common bedroom, he had lived with Gabe and Catalina for a short while now but only now had Diego had enough energy to actually empty his dorm room(partly because the dorm parent had nagged Diego to death about it). So now he dragged his three, very light boxes of belongings, mostly clothes and shoes and other attire, in through the door. And inside Gabe was waiting, and in his mind Diego had the goofiest grin. He'd never get bored of this, flying in and seeing Gabe waiting for him. But outside he had a faked strained expression as Diego carried the box.

"Uuuuuuuuuuuugh, effort. Perch, my arms hurt. Carry me."
Diego whined after hauling the last box on his bed, and he floated over to Gabe and basically draped himself on his back. In truth his arms didn't hurt at all, he just wanted to be on Gabe's back. Diego buried his face on Gabe's shoulder and groaned a bit.
"None of these clothes actually belong to me anyway, they were just donations. Why did I have to take 'em? They could've just given them to charity again."
Diego kept talking against Gabe's shoulder, it was mumbly but understandable.

Gabe let out a small chuckle as Diego's head rested against his shoulder. It was a common occurrence back in Halcyon for the two to be close physically. The two had been inseparable for a while, so being so close to one another had never been out of the ordinary. But back in Halcyon, it had been a conflicting and confusing mess of emotions, as the plant user had been head over heels for his best friend. Those feelings had somewhat dwindled due to their time apart, but Gabe would always have a special place in his heart for his best friend.

"Oh, poor Feathers. How will you ever survive without me?" He hummed, still looking over the room. It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but Gabe wouldn't have it any other way. Diego deserved to have a proper home, one where he would feel loved and not have to look over his shoulder for a terrible parent. "And you need clothes outside of your school uniform, dude. Unless you've suddenly decided to be a nudist. Pretty sure mama would have a few problems with that."

He laughed, flipping around to face Diego. He ran his hand through the dark green hair a few times, occasionally tracing fingers along the feathers that were visible. His friend's hair had always been interesting; having feathers at the ends of his hair. As a kid, he had love to just pet and comb Diego's hair. Now that they were older, it was a little strange but doing it always gave him a rush of nostalgia.

"So, ready for tonight? Mama's working late, but she said we can order food if we want. Plus, I think I got the TV working so we can play games like we used to!"

I won't. I won't survive without you. So never leave me again.
Was what Diego was thinking, and what he wanted to say, but just the thought made him blush against Gabe's shoulder and he stayed in that position for a short while more until his blush died down.
"Well, no duh, dude. I need my Perch, where will I sit otherwise."
Diego answered and snickered, reaching up and ruffling Gabe's hair. And the nudist comment made him outright laugh, imagining that was hilarious. Though Diego kept the images in his head strictly about himself naked, he kept far away from Gabe.
"And you wouldn't? Wow, dude, I feel violated. Now I can never live up to my full nudist potential."
Diego said with a wide grin on his face, very much joking, and poked Gabe's cheek when he turned around.

Diego almost wanted to close his eyes and purr when Gabe ran his fingers through his hair, it felt nice. Diego had his hair free right now, his long bangs hanging on his face and hair reaching almost shoulders. Gabe remember when as kids Gabe had sometimes combed his hair, and back then Diego had refused to cut it just because of that. Hair took longer to brush when it was long and that meant Gabe would brush it for longer. Even Diego just waited in silence while Gabe stroke his hair, not wanting to ruin it and make him stop.

"Really?! Fuck yeah, pizza night! Tonight we feast!“
Diego fist pumped and let out a cheer. Catalina's cooking was great, but pizza was pizza. And paired with Gabe and video games? Diego couldn't ask for more.
"Time to bring back the tradition of me beating your ass in video games~"
Diego said with a teasing tone and pinched Gabe's cheek like he was a little kid.

"Mreeeeeeh, stop pinching my cheek!"

Gabe huffed, swatting Diego's hand away while trying not to grin. He was used to his best friend's teasing, but having his cheeks pinched was something that made Gabe want to just throw Diego into the air and bring him crashing down to the ground. He knew he'd have to get back at the green-haired teen somehow, but it'd have to wait. For now, the proper revenge would have to be in a friendly gaming contest between the two.

"Oh, is that so? I think you underestimate me, Diego. You won't win this time, because we're playing Mario Kart. And I am going to make you suffer defeat after defeat." Gabe grinned, reaching up and poking Diego's forehead with a single finger. "Or would you rather put off your eventual defeat by ordering dinner first? I mean, it's only fair you get your last meal before I crush you."

Gabe couldn't fool Diego, he could tell the guy was holding back a grin and that only made Diego grin wider. But he did leave Gabe's cheeks alone, for now, and floated away a bit, waving his hands in defeat.
"Oh wow, so scawy, Perch is angry."
Diego said, smiling widely, his tone was joking and affectionate. Diego spun upside down and crossed his arms behind his head, snickering.
"It's not my fault your cheeks look so pinchable, dude."
Well, everything in Gabe looked cute rather than pinchable to Diego.

Diego gasped exaggeratedly at the mention of Mario Kart and he had a faked expression of horror.
"Oh no, not Mario Kart! I'll see rainbow coloured nightmares for weeks to come!"
Diego couldn't hold back his grin long after saying this, and he used the poke Gabe gave his forehead to spin back upright and floated in front of Gabe crosslegged and snickering.
"Me and Yoshi will beat your and Peach's ass. Bring it on, bro. And after we finish that pizza will be my victory feast."

"Perch will remember this sass, and will make sure that when I and Peach utterly crush you, you will kneel before your new Mario Kart king! You will grovel before the might of the Tree Gods!" Gabe yelled before giggling madly. It was nice to not have to act mature. Diego definitely brought out the kid in him and let him act as goofy as he wanted without having to worry about being judged for it. With Angelo, he was much more reserved but Diego brought something out in him that made him want to run wild.

"So, I'll get the game set up in the living room, you look at the pizza menu. I have no idea what they're like since I've never ordered from them. You know my preference for toppings, so if you don't want any of that, we'll do half meat lovers, half whatever you want." Gabe grinned, pulling the console from the small bedroom television it was hooked up to and began making his way towards the living room. As he passed by Diego, he couldn't help but give a gentle hip bump to his friend. He was always careful not to push too hard; he knew that Condor's flight power were partially possible due to his lighter frame. And that meant he was more delicate than the average human.

Gabe's words and giggling were so damn adorable Diego couldn't help but giggle along with it and take Gabe from a loose headlock, so he could hide his slightly blushing face.
"Diego and Yoshi will never surrender! Tree Gods will eat dirt! Or, like, more dirt than they already eat."
Diego snorted and cackled at his own joke and ruffled Gabe's hair.

"Veggies are for losers anyway. Let's go all meat no green, carnivore style."
Diego said with a thumbs up and grin, also moving out of the room. The hip bump Gabe gave him Diego answered with a snicker and a light kick, or more like a push, on Gabe's back.
Diego flew over to the kitchen and found the pizza menu on the table. He opened it and saw that the array was pretty damn big, and some toppings were super weird. But there was also normal meat pizza and Diego went on ahead and ordered one meat lover's pizza. And no, none of the meat should be raw, thanks.
The pizza would be delivered there, so Diego just floated over into the living room and perched himself on Gabe's back.
"You ready yet? Can I kick your ass already?"

Once again, that very familiar pressure on his back. Diego really did enjoy perching onto him. Lucky guy with his flight powers. "Almost, Diego. I'm trying to remember how to connect the cables. If you have a little patience, I can start kicking your ass like you're so desperately craving. I'm guessing the fact that you're leaning on me this much means the pizza's on the way?"

Gabe hummed, connecting the cable to the proper ports in the TV before booting up the console. It whirred for a moment before booting properly, and one quick disc change later, the Mario Kart start screen flashed brightly in the dimmed living room. The game was going to begin shortly, and Diego was gonna be in a world of hurt.

"Diego, I hope you're ready. Cause after this, you're gonna be the Tree God's bitch." He cackled, grabbing two controllers and holding out one to his friend.

As always Diego didn't really lean on Gabe with all his weight, no matter how light he was. Just enough to let Gabe know he was there. He watched over Gabe's shoulder how he played around with the cables. Diego had always been pretty pathetic with technology.
"My victory pizza is on the way, yeah, and full of meat. Though this s the first time I saw jewels and human bones as a topping option..."
Diego had a weirded out look as he remembered the topping options on the menu, this island was weird as hell.

When the Mario Kart flashed alive on the screen Diego cheered and grinned, giving Gabe a small shake.
"Oh yeah, the slaughterfest can begin! You're about to eat my dust, bro!"
With that Diego floated off of Gabe's back and planted himself next to him, actually touching the ground. Diego got himself a controller, all raring to go. Though he almost dropped it immediately when he processed Gabe's words about him being the Tree God's bitch.
Yeah, I wish. Wait, what?
It took all of Diego's willpower to grin back at Gabe instead of becoming a flustered blushing mess.
"Get us on that hardest course, Perch, and I'll show you who's the bitch around here."

"Oh? Should I get a mirror so you can see your reflection better, my good bitch?"

Gabe laughed, taking his controller and plopping down on the couch next to Diego. He paused for a moment to shoot his friend a look. "...I'm sorry, did you say human bones and jewels were a pizza choice? Damn this place is weird." He laughed, waiting for Diego to pick Yoshi before selecting the stage. He quietly cycled through the stages before finding one of the older Rainbow Road stages.

With an intentionally creepy head turn, Gabe stared at Diego and smiled wide. "Embrace your death on this colorful pathway, Diego. I would say I'll miss you, but the red shells hunger for your blood."
