Alex couldn’t’ help but chuckle as she placed the defibrillator on the desk beside the bandages. “Don’t worry” She smiled. “I’m not gonna use it unless one of yours or Cole’s heart stops beating, or worse.” She Alex could tell he was rather apprehensive about it, and picked up on his doubt about if she knew how to use it. “And don’t worry.” She finally said. “My mom was a paranoid person about these sorts of things.” Alex reminisced “When she was a teenager in Spain her father died of a heart attack at her big sisters wedding. He died because no one there knew how to proper first aid.” She paused again as she leaned her backside against the desk and crossed her arms under her breast. “So when I was thirteen she took me to CPR and first aid classes and made me go to a class at least once a year ever since.”

Alex paused for a long moment of silence and then chuckled. That was perhaps the most information she had given anyone about her life before coming school. She didn’t really mind though. Galen had told her so much about himself the other day and was taking such a huge risk he earned at least a fraction of honesty from her.

“Besides,” Alex finally said picking up the main part of the defibrillator and showing the bottom of it to Galen. “It’s idiot proof.” On the bottom there was a diagram with the little silhouette of a person on it with the proper places to place the pads shown along with step by step instructions on how to use them.

Once Cole lifted up his shirt Alex couldn’t help but notice his rather thin frame, she wondered if that was part of his injury or he was just that thin. Then Galen began. Alex watched silently as Galen did his work. She wasn’t sure was working at first but then she began to sense it working. She wasn’t really feeling his Galen’s physical pain, but the mental strain and discomfort she did pick it up. She gasped out in discomfort at first as she clenched her head in pain. It took everything she had to force his thoughts out of his head and that still took several minutes of panting to catch her breath and regain her composure.

By the time she looked up Galen was doubled over in pain. Instinctively she ran over to Galen to see what happen but stopped when she realized he was finished, he did what he could do and he was done. Knowing there was nothing she could do, and he appeared to be alive still she figured he would be okay soon enough. That’s when she glanced over at Cole wanting to know the million dollar question. “Did it work?” She asked.

“Yep.” He squeezed out at james' question, wanting him to get on with it and have done. He jumped when the two fingers prodded his injury, feeling a shock running through his spine, able to tell that the boy's arm had shuddered. The pain of reassembling parts made him squeeze the chair, not so much like pain, but more like both legs had been asleep. And they were just coming back awake.

At five times the sensation. His toes clenched as the process was finishing, mind completely distracted. A shimmer of warping space appeared to shoot from his center, slamming into a desk, breaking out the back of it as the single, thick tendril slimmed and split at the end, five seperate tendrils raking at the wall with impossibly sharp ends.

Dust fell from the wall as gouges appeared, dust falling around the morphed field, giving it a brief dusty shell before Cole realized what had happened and reigned it in.

Still gripping the chair, Cole turned in his seat, grimacing at the numbed sensation in his legs. It was tame now, controlled. His legs shook as he pushed himself up, letting tendrils brace them as he stood up for the first time in months.

Grinning like a madman, he faltered as he saw james. Walking awkwardly to his side, he looked at alex. “Forget me. Is he alright? Did he hurt himself?”

When Galen finally looked up, both Cole and Alex were standing awkwardly next to him, looking nervous and unsure. He grinned widely at Cole, inexplicably happy to see that it had worked, that the boy was able to walk so quickly. Apparently he wasn't rusty, after all. He groped for his gloves, pulling them on with clumsy, shaking fingers - he felt exposed and vulnerable without them, and it was a relief to have his hands covered again. "Feel okay?" He asked Cole, grin plastered on his face, breathing still a little shaky.

He had planned on storming out as soon as he was finished with Cole, but his legs felt like they were made out of jell-o, and he didn't think he would be able to stand yet. It wouldn't be very impressive to collapse onto the floor the moment he stood up; besides, he wasn't as mad as he had been when he'd come in. At any rate, he didn't make any attempt to leave, resting his elbows on his knees and trying to quell the uncontrollable shudders and twitches that rippled through his body.

"Those weren't there before... Were they?" He asked suddenly, inclining his chin minutely towards the deep gouges slashed into the wall. It was possible that Alex had somehow caused them, but he couldn't imagine why she would gouge deep cracks into the wall. It suddenly occurred to him that he had no idea what, exactly, Cole did - Alex hadn't given him too many details when she'd asked him to meet with the boy. What sort of power could cause marks like that?

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Alex kept repeating that in her head as she saw Cole stand up. It worked it actually worked she couldn’’ believe it, she had seen kids in this school fly, teleport, conjure ice cream from nothing, turn coal into diamonds, and juggle dumpsters. But she had never seen anything like that. Cole was walking, a bit wobbly but she imagined that was to be expected, Galen did it. “You did it,” She said gleefully glancing down at Galen as he sat there. He was at least awake now; they wouldn’t have to carry him out of here. So Cole was walking and Galen was at least conscious at this point. That’s when she caught sight of the gouges in the wall that Cole must have caused.

“Jesus hijo de puta,” Alex said bilingualy cursing in a way that would make her mother both proud and ashamed at the same time. “See boys, that’s why we didn’t do this in the dorm room.” Glancing back at Galen, who looked rather weak as sat on the floor and Cole who was looking rather unsteady standing up. “Are you too going to be okay?”

Cole smiled weakly at James. “I don't know whether to thank you for helping, or punch you for hurting yourself. You could've told me it was going to hurt you.” He sighed, laughing a little. “Feels great, thanks. Just kinda asleep.” He said it, surprised the genuine kindness in his tone didn't burn his tongue out of his mouth.

At his question and Alex's curse, Cole bit his lip and glanced at the wall. He didn't know what he was expecting, he didn't even expect to have lost control.

But maybe he'd gone a little overboard.

The desk that was between him and the wall had its back blown out, as if something had burst through, and the wall had five inch-deep gouges in it. “Right. We should be going soon.” He said, looking at Alex. “Were you expecting this?” He asked, cocking a dark, thin eyebrow. Sighing, he had some feeling back in his legs, tingling gone. Testing, he released his force-braces, setting him on his own to walk.

Stretching the muscle, he grinned. His heart was beating somewhere near his brain about now, excited to walk again.

Galen laughed in spite of himself. "Would knowing I'd be hurt have changed anything?" He asked, but the words contained little malice. It was strange, seeing someone he'd healed worry about him. His power, his existence made most people uncomfortable, and although they were eager to be healed by him, they usually tried to pretend he didn't exist as soon as he had finished. It was nice, having someone acknowledge his existence even after they'd gotten what they wanted from him.

He stood up unsteadily, gripping the edge of the teacher's desk, wings outstretched for balance. "He's fine." He told Alex distractedly, still staring at the deep gouges in the wall. "No chance of complications, as far as I know. They'll probably be a little numb for a while, though - that's alright." He addressed the last comment to Cole, watching the boy as he walked about experimentally. "And I'll be okay by tomorrow. It was easier then I thought," He smiled as if he was giving Cole a compliment, reluctantly letting go of the desk.

"Good call about the meeting place, Alex." He met her gaze for a millisecond, the closest he'd come to saying 'so, I don't hate you.'
"We should get out of here. However that happened" - his gaze flickered questioningly from the deep gouges to Cole, although he didn't expect an answer - "someone's going to be angry when they find out about it."

“Yeah. Kinda sorta.” Alex said glancing over at Cole and shrugging her shoulders. “I wasn’t sure what would happen when Galen was healing you and that thing you do.” Alex said adding emphasis to the last words figuring Cole would pick up on what she was talking about. “I figured just in case we should be in an out of the way place so we don’t’ endanger anyone else.” She didn’t add the other reason was if it didn’t work what Cole would do with his rage and sorrow. He had killed before, probably, she wanted him some place he could be contained.

She looked at the gouges and a part of her for a fraction of a second wished the healing didn’t work. That way they could all three leave and for all the administration would know is someone vandalized the room. Now, with Cole walking around again a clever person could at least trace this strait back to them. “Well those are going to be a problem.” Alex said scratching the back of her head. “I don’t think we will be able to cover those things in the wall up. We’re probably going to have some sort of disciplinary action taken against us when they see this. But I think that’s a small price to pay. Don’t yall.”

“Unless…” Alex trailed off as she surveyed the room. “Those gouges don’t go all the way through. Maybe we can find some poster or something in one of the closets to cover them up.”

Cole sighed. “Nobody comes up here. We should be fine for a while. Nobody knows anything about it anyway.” He said, referencing his power. Alex seemed to respect his privacy concerning his secret, and for that he was grateful. Though at times he suspected she knew the story connected to the secret, why it was a secret in the first place.

Looking at James, Cole's eyebrows knitted. The man was curious, Cole wasn't an idiot. “Right, I guess I owe some small explanation.” He sighed. “I'm registered a chlorokinetic, I control plants to some degree.” Running through his head the many ways this could go wrong in the long run, he shoved aside reason. “And as far as anyone but Alex knows, I'm a kid with a weak power.”

“I can make a force field so to speak.” He raised a hand, the air warping into a half sphere around him, a classic forcefield. The edges were similar to the effect of tracing a line on a liquid crystal computer screen. Pushing his hand out, the field slid forward, pushing chairs away. Cole's fingers gave a slow fluttering motion, shaping the field. It concentrated into a tendril an inch thick and a few feet long, end tapered to a molecular edge.

The tendril whipped out, cutting into the brick wall, creating another gouge.

“Don't tell mine, and I won't spread yours.” He winked at James, the tendril pulling back into his body much like slurped spaghetti. Looking around the room, he saw some left-behind algebra posters rolled up and bound with rubber bands. He picked up a couple larger ones and drew a finger over the rubber bands, slicing through them frictionlessly.

Galen watched silently, arms crossed, as Cole demonstrated his power. He kept his face carefully blank, but his lifeless eyes followed the force field as it warped and shifted with keen interest. He still wasn't quite used to the more commonplace powers, and the thin, shimmering tendril that was now forming from the field would have left him bug-eyed with shock if he wasn't as skilled at concealing his emotions. It lashed out suddenly, another thick gouge appearing in the wall as easily as if it were made of putty instead of brick. Galen didn't say anything, but his gaze stayed on the deep gash for some time.

When Cole spoke again, Galen tore his eyes away from the gouge, smiling tightly over at him. He didn't understand why Cole wanted it kept a secret - he was sure there were even more powerful students at the school who had no issue with disclosing their abilities - but he wouldn't tell anyone, either. "Sounds fair." He shrugged, eyes turning back to the thin gash in the brick wall.
"Anyone asks, tell 'em you went to the hospital wing. There are a few healers who hang out around there sometimes when they want to practice." None of them could heal much more than a deep cut - if that -, but it would be plausible enough that no one would dig deeper and find out it was him that healed Cole. "With that and the fact that no one knows about your power, we should be fine."

He watched as Cole began to unroll posters to hang on the wall, realized he should probably help. He reluctantly pushed himself off the desk he'd been leaning on, walking to the back and fumbling with the handle of the drawer. An overwhelming sense of exhaustion was slowly engulfing him, making all his movements sluggish and clumsy. He shook his head shortly as if to wake himself up, searching the drawers carefully for something with which to hang the posters.

Alex couldn’t believe she saw Cole put another gash into the wall. Now they were going to have to cover that one up too. Even more than that though, Alex couldn’t help but pick up on the subtle hint of malice to what Cole was saying. But maybe it was just Alex’s distrusts of Cole clouding her judgment. Either way she did find Cole’s tone rather ungrateful especially considering if it wasn’t for Galen he would be rolling around the school still in that wheel chair. Maybe she should fill Galen in on her suspicions about Cole. Either way they had more immediate matters to attend to.

“Sounds like a plan.” Alex said, approving of Cole and Galen’s little cover story. She had her reservations about the plan, it seemed rather flimsy and if anyone really tried to dig deeper into it they could see how untrue it was. But she was confident that they would be convincing enough to not let that happen.

Realizing that the supplies she got out wouldn’t be needed Alex began gathering them up, and removed the batteries from the defibrillator and stacking gauze and bandages on top of it. On her way back to the supply closet Alex handed Galen some of the adhesive tape meant to put for bandages. “This should do for putting the posters up on the wall.” Alex said and then glanced over at Cole and leaned in and whispered to Galen. “Be careful around Cole. I think he may be dangerous.”
